I presume that as there are spare girls, the boys will be choosing next. If so, it's not really about who Ellie and Zara want to pair up with but who they can persuade to pick them.

Kirsten Samira tried backtracking really fast when Alex wanted her to elaborate on what "type of girl" she was implying Ellie was! It was obvious what she meant but she realised she would sound like a bitch if she said anything more, so her response was to turn it around and get annoyed at Alex instead. She made herself look like an idiot.

Maybe Ellie wouldn't normally look at him twice, who knows, but Samira made that assumption based on meeting her 2 seconds earlier. She's just worried she'll lose her safe bet with Alex and be dumped.
