What did everyone think?

I enjoyed it...

Good lord these people are thick. Either that or nerves is making them second guess themselves.

Singlenotsingle · 09/05/2018 21:41

And the English teacher was hopeless

youngestisapsycho · 09/05/2018 21:41

Ffs.... take the money if you don’t know the answer!!

Pauperlil · 09/05/2018 21:43

The first contestant from Yorkshire who is a security guy went home with 8k ! These so called educated people like drs , teachers oxford students have only won’t 1k!! The teacher was thick !

mummabubs · 09/05/2018 21:46

We're wondering the same @youngestisapsycho.
There seems to be a real trend of people taking more risks and losing money rather than just taking the money. Definitely don't remember people doing this as much in the original series??

ShackUp · 09/05/2018 21:47

She was useless! That was the shitest guess. Not only do most of these contestants have poor general knowledge, they have zero tactical nous. At least use up your lifelines before telling us that phosphorous is a metal Hmm

crazycatgal · 09/05/2018 21:48

Why are people gambling when they have lifelines left?

I was in the audience for the episode that aired on Monday and it was so hard to not shout at the contestants.

ChinkChink · 09/05/2018 21:49

I'm enjoying this now in a schadenfreude kinda way. Grin

Is it too much to hope that no one wins more than £1K?

Or wait, even better - none of them gets faster finger first right. And then they all go home. The end.

ChinkChink · 09/05/2018 21:50

Wouldn't be surprised if they start dumbing down the questions now so that someone, ANYONE, wins some money.

notmypropername · 09/05/2018 22:23

The teacher 😱

I think Clarkson's quite entertaining on this. I don't think he's insensitive or belittling the contestants, I think it's good- natured teasing and you'd have to be quite a sensitive flower to take offence. He's quite self-deprecating too at his inability to answer most of the 'ask the host' questions.

But dear god, some of the things people don't know ....!!!!!

Longdistance · 10/05/2018 03:46

When the woman didn’t know the Balearics were in Spain, myself and dh pissed ourselves laughing.

I think the contestants are saving their lifelines for if they get to the top end and risking it. There are no guarantees they walk away with say £32k now as the contestants set the limit themselves.

Vitalogy · 10/05/2018 04:32

I can't comment on Jeremy Clarkson but Chris Tarrent used to come out with some cringe lines and put downs.

Ki0612 · 10/05/2018 05:00

Not watching it with that idiot JC on it which is a shame really enjoyed original show.

Persephonepool · 10/05/2018 06:19

There is no mention of the option to take the money. Maybe this is no longer available to them since the change to set their own “safe” level.

That would explain why they are guessing. Can’t think of any other explanation.
Jeremy doesn’t ask them and they don’t talk about it.

PattiStanger · 10/05/2018 07:02

Where are they getting the useless contestants from? Is the process to get on the show different to the original one? They don't seem to even understand how to play.

The student who didn't even know how to read out the question to his phone a friends was very odd. Surely a languages student at Oxbridge should be aware of widely used Greek words

mummabubs · 10/05/2018 07:50

They can still take the money @Persephonepool , a couple of people have done already this week :)

Soundsgood · 10/05/2018 07:53

What was the 3 Lions question?

fascicle · 10/05/2018 09:54

3 lions question - can't remember how it was phrased - asked which band played on Euro 96 song with Baddiel and Skinner (3 options I can remember: Lightening Seeds, Cast, Charlatans).

Contestants need to set second lifeline much earlier than they think they need it plus more intelligent use of lifelines.

ANameforToday · 10/05/2018 10:01

Saw last night's, the contestants are pretty dire aren't they?

PattiStanger · 10/05/2018 10:13

I quite like the floating 2nd safety point but all the contestants I''ve seen seem to have far too high an opinion of their own general knowledge.

I was surprised that JC didn't know the Beaver answer - you could get that by a process of elimination.

I actually though the phospherous question was too hard for the money it was at, very few people would know that imo

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 10/05/2018 13:02

I still can't get over the woman who ignored her dh on the phone the friend lifeline and lost all that money. Bet she's sleeping outside with her bees!

HollowTalk · 10/05/2018 13:25

The student who didn't even know how to read out the question to his phone a friends was very odd. Surely a languages student at Oxbridge should be aware of widely used Greek words

I thought he did exactly the right thing. You don't always need to ask the full question - it takes up such a lot of time. He just asked what "helio" meant - that was all he needed to know, because the question was about "heliocentric" and he knew what "centric" meant.

I'm always amazed they do usually ask the full question instead of just asking "Who did X?" etc. I've always thought I'd rather have the questions and then a delay in the answers being shown - I'd rather think about the question for a bit without being confused by four possible answers.

PattiStanger · 10/05/2018 13:56

Tbf to the woman who phoned her DH he did say he wasn't sure about the answer. She knows whether he has a good political knowledge and only she can judge if it was right to rely on him.

Of course she should have taken the money as she didn't know either but I don't blame her for not going with his answer.

But HollowTalk it sounded to me that the person on the phone was confused by the non traditional reading of the question, he didn't answer immediately and imo sounded a bit flustered. You shouldn't phone a friend if you're not going to do it right Grin

choccyp1g · 11/05/2018 15:15

I was literally clapping and cheering for the man last night, when he knew the answer to the lake/castle question, "because that's where I lost my leg" !!
It was just like SlumDog Millionaire.
