Aridane · 03/05/2018 12:09

I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

I would like them to tell Fred and Serena that she's lost the baby and for them to escape. Don't think it's going to happen though Sad

SerenaWaterford · 18/06/2018 12:56

I will never let her escape of that baby go.

SerenaWaterford · 18/06/2018 12:56

Or**.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/06/2018 14:16

We don't know for sure that the rape will happen. Although I don't know who'd stop it as I assume F & S would have the sense to wait until they're 'alone' with June. I expect that they wouldn't consider the presence in the house of Rita or Nick, they're 'nonentities' as far as F & S are concerned, I'm sure.

I know AL is 'around' though, and I wonder if an Aunt takes up residence with a family when the Handmaid is near term. Although hell, I wonder if it's 'acceptable' to bring on a baby 'that way' in Gilead if a baby is past due.

OohMavis · 18/06/2018 14:56

What rape?!

WitchSharkadder · 18/06/2018 15:03

OohMavis search HOT VOD on Facebook of you want to see an extended trailer. There’s major spoilers though and it’s pretty distressing so be warned.

OohMavis · 18/06/2018 15:18

Oh my fucking god Shock

SophieCatScribbles · 18/06/2018 16:15

I'd love Aunt Lydia to burst in on them when Serena is holding June down and she's screaming as Fred attempts to have their 'last ceremony' (sick fucks). It'd be interesting to see how much power AL has and whether she can go batshit crazy on them both and take control.

The bit where we see June being put in the car by Fred - does that happen BEFORE the birth? After the Braxton Hicks false alarm? After the birth?!

I have so many questions about episode ten!

Even better would be if this was finally what made Serena 'click' and see sense and she stops Fred before he can do anything to June. I have no faith she would though. I think she made her deal with the Gilead devil on her return from Canada. Shame. If something terrible happens to June or the baby I'd never be able to see any good again in Serena. I just see her as a user of people. June is clearly just a vessel to her, and a means to get her one wish - a baby.

I don't want her and Fred to have June and Nick's baby 😔.

Snappedandfarted2018 · 18/06/2018 16:19

To be fair June has been raped repeatedly she has been threatened with violence to confirm but she is repeatedly raped we just are just witnessed to such a violence and resitance as serena holds her down. The trauma that could occur to June and the baby is big I’m surprised they would risk it.

OohMavis · 18/06/2018 16:31

That's a really brutal scene. The 'ceremony' scenes are sickening and chilling, and no less of a portrayal of rape but it's so violent that it sets it apart.

Really going to struggle to watch. I'm hoping they don't include it...

AcrossthePond55 · 18/06/2018 17:29

POSSIBLE SPOILER below as I'm surmising on the next episode.

I'm thinking the car scene is after the baby. What is it he says (I don't want to watch it again)? "You'll enjoy this" or "This will be good for you", something like that? I'm thinking she's being bundled away as soon as the baby is born and perhaps Fred has 'pulled strings' and as a 'treat' he's talking about an extended 'rest period' to recuperate from the birth rather than being immediately assigned to a new family.

At any rate, I think June IS going to be separated from the baby. And she's going to have to make the choice to run alone with the hopes that she'll be able to get the children out later or to try to get one or both of her children before she runs. Sort of a Gileadean 'Sophie's Choice'.

There’s a new Commander coming in episode 10, Commander Horace. Perhaps where June is being sent to?

SophieCatScribbles · 18/06/2018 19:06

Be nice if June could go to someone vaguely human, just as a contrast, and to see what the idea of Gilead was really meant to be before Waterford got quite so sick with it...

Tractorprincess · 18/06/2018 19:11

POSSIBLE SPOILER

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dKoIPuifJvE

At the end of this trailer you see Fred and Serena arguing and Fred is saying to Serena that if she's shown 'that girl' one bit of kindness she never would have left. Serena is seen saying that they'll think we're part of the resistance.

I don't think that bit has been seen yet in the series has it?

Is that a clue that Offred does ft away?

OohMavis · 18/06/2018 20:32

I think that scene was in the episode just after she'd gone on the run.

MynameisJune · 18/06/2018 20:36

Yes that scene was after she’d escaped. I wonder now if that’s why SJ tried to be nicer to June. And I say nicer loosely.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 18/06/2018 22:20

Ooh had an idea re the letters. Maybe Nick could cast suggestion that Serena passed them to the American Ambassador in Canada. Perhaps she kept the Hawaii phone number somewhere, or she was being followed.

Does Nick still have Eye influence/ contacts after the bomb?

AcrossthePond55 · 19/06/2018 00:17

Perhaps she kept the Hawaii phone number somewhere, or she was being followed.

I think the HI phone number was in or on the match box that SJ threw in the fire after she got home.

OohMavis · 19/06/2018 08:20

I think Nick's superior died in the bomb. The man with the grey hair, can't remember his name.

I'm starting to think that her throwing the matches in the fire was symbolic of her casting away her doubts about Gilead, given the preview for next week.

SophieCatScribbles · 19/06/2018 09:42

I think so too OohMavis, although I think it was even before that, after Serena was whipped, because why else be so cold and say June had to go as soon as the baby was born? That's fairly unheard of (clearly by AL's reaction), and she said that to June before going to Canada.

IMHO the worst bit of writing so far. After what happened with Fred and the viscous beating, and knowing what she and June could accomplish together, it seems unlikely for Serena to turn so cold towards June. Embarrassment or not. And Serena is meant to have had all these moments where she was shocked truly noticed the hideous things going on in Gilead, both when she was still in Gilead and when she and Fred went to Canada. She is portrayed as having had all these moments of clarity about the awful world she helped to create - why so quickly after a beating from Fred would she just seem to turn wholly to the dark side?

If it was as we always suspected just because she wants that baby so desperately, even she must know now that no baby would be safe in a house with Fred Waterford, because he is a sick fuck. She wouldn't have a moments peace, and he wouldn't have any patience at all for either the baby or her. She is always portrayed as not really getting on very well with the other wives in scenes like the baby shower, so if the baby was the only driving force, why not take up the offer to have one in Hawaii, in warmth and sun, free from Fred and a Gilead she's clearly uncomfortable with?!

papayasareyum · 19/06/2018 09:42
