I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

And then, when June tries to talk to him he'll only do so through the door, he didn't let her in as he usually would. That's when she realises he's closed himself off and she won't be able to influence him at all anymore.

Praisebe · 08/06/2018 09:29

And she's also had a "fuck you" moment after seeing how he treated Serena so she's going to be kicking up a storm next week judging by the preview. I can't see anyone in Gilead been opposed to a man being violent in the name of religion though

Snoopyokay · 08/06/2018 09:44

Just read the spolier/review for next weeks episode! I cannot wait! It's strange as I'd never read a spolier for another show but with this it feels like you need to know now!

Agree Nick is putting himself in a vulnerable position. His wife could definitely mess things up for him.

I can't see aunt lydia siding with June on this though as far as she is concerned that baby is the waterfords no matter what

Opheliasgoldenwine · 08/06/2018 12:38

I don't think Aunt Lydia would let June keep the baby :/ If she thought they weren't suitable, she'd probably give it to another family Sad I wonder if Serena will take the book deal?!

loopsdefruit · 08/06/2018 13:47

Glad someone linked this thread! Been dying to discuss with people.

I am intrigued about next week's episode, I would usually agree that Aunt Lydia is unlikely to side with a trouble-making handmaid, but I think she sees that Offred is trying and probably is confident she got through to her.

Babies are very important, possibly more so than men, the whole purpose of the system is to 'please God' in order to be rewarded with children, it's possible that this will work in Offred's favour, although I don't think she'd be allowed to keep the baby.

BatShite · 08/06/2018 16:18

Wow at those spoilers..I am kind of jealous that other people have seen it already Grin

cheshiremama89 · 08/06/2018 18:09

Did people know there was a movie in the 90's?

Torvi · 08/06/2018 18:15

Yes I remember watching it as a teen and being very affected by it

ellenanora5 · 08/06/2018 19:03

Do you mind if I join in, I'm up to episode eight and the whole day I've been singing "You've started something" it was a great episode.

Also as someone said up thread I think it's finally dawning on Serena what she's done, her chickens have come home to roost, I'm finding it hard to have sympathy for her though, she thought nothing of beating the crap out of June when she felt like it.

The first series was so good that I was worried the second wouldn't be up to much but they've excelled themselves.

I read the book years ago but didn't know there was a film.

ellenanora5 · 08/06/2018 19:05

Great thread by the way Grin

eloisesparkle · 09/06/2018 14:41

Wow ChesireMama
That film looks like it would be really good.
The late Natasha Richardson - gone too soon.
The gorgeous Aidan Quinn.
Robert Duvall, Faye Dunaway and Lady Grantham ( Elizabeth mc Govern ).
Has anyone seen it ?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 09/06/2018 17:38

I heard that the film wasn’t very good. But I would like to watch it to se show they did it many years ago. Don’t want to pay for it if it ends up being no good lol

kikashi · 10/06/2018 20:31

I actually found this episode a bit unbelievable. I really don't think that Serena would have stuck her neck out to get Janine (of all people) in to see Baby Angela. I understand that Baby Angela probably had failure to thrive but still seemed very, very small considering how long ago Janine gave birth.

Nick's wife might not rat deliberately but in despair might blab about being told off for moving the letters, prompting a lot of difficult questions. Nick should of hidden them better.

I don't have sympathy for Serena - she thought she would be a top dog in Gilead and that it would be "other" women having to obey the "obedient wife" type rules.

I wonder if Fred will defect or set up a deal (for when it all starts crumbling for him)? Would be typical of that kind of guy.

FairfaxAikman · 10/06/2018 20:49

I thought it was a nice touch to have the Atwood quote of "Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them." in there.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 10/06/2018 20:55

FairfaxAikman Yes, I was excitedly slapping my partners arm when I heard the quote start. I told him the quote a few weeks ago and he hmmmed and then agreed and was like “yeah, that makes sense actually.”

kikashi · 10/06/2018 23:10

That was a nice touch.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 12/06/2018 08:15

Really enjoying season 2. Up to episode 6 now Shock so good!
Serena was such a bitch dropping the needles for offred to pick up then instructing Eden to do it too. Can't wait to see what happens next, day off today so have until schoolrun to catch up. Not much housework will get done today.

eloisesparkle · 12/06/2018 08:27

Blessedbe
I agree re Serena and the needle.
It's a tough watch.
I couldn't binge watch.
One episode at a time with weeks days between them suits me.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 12/06/2018 23:21

Just watched episode 8. Actually felt sorry for Serena, for the first time. The fact that she was so instrumental in setting up the regime must have made it all the worse for her

LilCamper · 13/06/2018 12:49

Just watching episode 9...OMG!

SayNoToCarrots · 13/06/2018 12:53

Are you watching direct from hulu?

LilCamper · 13/06/2018 12:53

No, in the UK via Kodi with the Incursion add on.

SayNoToCarrots · 13/06/2018 12:56

I am really dumb and can't work Kodi, but I have other avenues which normally seem to appear at the same time but despite copious refreshing I'm still waiting 😔
