I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

Great episode. I am enjoying this season more than season 1.

I am left excited about what Serena and June will do next. Serena is a strong person and she is going to try and find a way to fix this situation she has helped cause.

They keep mentioning the trip to Canada. I think this is going to be crucial in the story, maybe Serena will go too.

I am nervous for Nick. He needs to play the husband part or his wife will report him for being a gender traitor or for the letters or something else.

Thanks, across, re timeline. Was trying to remember via the Hannah element but couldn’t place it.

There is an interesting thread in Feminism section - link below. Not sure I agree with the OP but thought I would post the link for anyone interested

I think Fred's beating of Serena was driven by jealousy mainly.

He walked into June's room, saw the music box and the rose and felt threatened.

Previously, he held all the power in the house - secret sordid meetings with the handmaid etc, then literally boom, he's away and they're talking, getting along, organising themselves... classic misogynist trigger. Can't have women organising!

I've thought his trip to Canada will be important since the golf scene between the commanders... I can't wait to see what's going on outside of Gilead in terms of bringing them down.

I just watched episode 8 and am still trying to process my emotions! Emily is not going to go quietly-think she is a time mob waiting to explode. All Angela needed was love-we have seen that her "mother" was not really interested in mothering and I would imagine they are going to bring back Janine to care for her. Nick is in a dangerous position with his young wife-he really need to start making an effort to be nice, but shades of the commander really came through in his interaction with her-gilead is a scary place for women! Serena joy has finally understood that she has helped create a monster-looking forward to seeing what she and June can accomplish (if she is not beaten into submission). This episode was a doozy, lots of shot happening and a really good croasection of how each of the classes of women are abused and how little is thought of them. Can't wait for the next episode!!

Oh my! I just watched here (Australia), it was released at 5pm, so I put it on as soon as kids were in bed. It was a slow start I thought, but the scene in the study was truly shocking, Serena being humiliated like that was awful.

I think this and been confronted by Luke next week will finally make Serena see sense and take Offred to Canada to escape. Serena doesn't even want the baby she doesn't see it as her own and she knows deep down she can have children of her own just not with Fred so moving to Canada would give her the freedom to do so

Praisebe · 08/06/2018 07:06

I've seen all the Synopsis' on Kodi before it crashed on me so i have a Gist of what is going to happen and theres the season 2 trailer which gives a lot of it away if you watch closely

Aridane · 08/06/2018 07:14

I had assumed serene couldn’t have children of her own not just because of the mass infertility but because of where she got shot. (before we even put Fred into the equation)

OP posts:
Aridane · 08/06/2018 07:15

Were Fred and Serena intimate on Fred’s discharge from hospi- thinking of when he led her away by the hand?

OP posts:
Praisebe · 08/06/2018 07:36

No he was leading her out of his office it was his way of saying she was no longer needed or wanted there now he was back in charge. I think that will have also opened her eyes to the fact he just sees women as a commodity to be used and discarded as he pleases. I think she can have children especially if she gets out of Gilead and embraces the idea of IVF if necessary

Praisebe · 08/06/2018 07:38

You have to remember that as well as women not been allowed to read or write in Gilead they are also not allowed in their commanders office its against Gilead law so if June and Serena had been caught while Fred was in hospital they would have all been killed including Fred. I think in some scenes Serena has flouted that rule already though by barging in to talk to Fred which he seems to humor her by allowing it

Aridane · 08/06/2018 07:52

Thanks - I hadn’t realised he was just leading her away by the hand
