viques · 11/05/2018 20:50

Is that an iPad? How do they charge it?

anotherchangeychanger · 11/05/2018 20:50

Thank goodness.

fourquenelles · 11/05/2018 20:54

Phew. I can climb down off the ceiling now. Idiots.

LoadsaBlusher · 11/05/2018 20:54

Glad they gave it up
Kids seem happier

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2018 20:54

Allabitmuchisntit · 11/05/2018 20:54

LoadsaBlusher · 11/05/2018 20:55

four ha ha it was making me quite tense too Grin

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2018 20:55

Bali WiFi. How? In a tent?

salsamummy · 11/05/2018 21:37

I think you normally can only stay for about a month in Bali at a time without having to leave and come back again.

The80sweregreat · 12/05/2018 09:01

They went back to Italy with 89 pounds in the bank?

charlyn · 12/05/2018 16:39

The dad from this weeks one was completely off his head- who goes to start a new life in another country with such little money to build a house, buy food etc and not thought about how they’d earn money! They seemed quite deluded and I was glad for the kids sake they moved back to Italy.

cushioncovers · 12/05/2018 17:01

Well I'm 9 mins in and already think he's a twat.

OP posts:
cushioncovers · 12/05/2018 17:31

Wow they didn't think that through at all did they. If it was that bloody easy we'd all be doing something like that. Not an unpleasant couple but dear me what dreamers!!

OP posts:
Oldowl · 12/05/2018 20:48

Maybe they got deported and saved the airfare back to Italy.

cushioncovers · 12/05/2018 21:00

I think family and friends probably paid for the air fares back to Italy as he was emailing them all for emergency funds wasn't he?

OP posts:
DickVanTyke · 17/05/2018 22:28

I've just watched it on catch up. Insane! And also, what were the kids called?

fourquenelles · 18/05/2018 20:24

This woman is not at all happy. They don't seem like a team at all.

And another thing....my late DH and I spent 5 years learning Portuguese as our retirement plans were to move out there. It doesn't seem this couple have much of the language. Rant over.

LoadsaBlusher · 18/05/2018 21:20

Seemed as if they are living in some game of thrones cloud cuckoo land

He built a non waterproof / non fire resistant / doorless structure that didn’t even seem suitable for animals to be honest

I felt like shaking him

And when they said they required no money
What if your girls need medical aid / doctors appointments / spectacles / dental / clothing / shoes
This program gets me so frustrated

DoryNow · 18/05/2018 22:12

He kept going on about how much the rent on the cottage was, while digging solid rock by hand. Surely the cost of a mini digger would be less for a week than another months rent?
Also I know someone who made a straw bale house, the bales need to be really solid & tightly packed not just crammed in any old how, or they won't be draft proof.

charlyn · 19/05/2018 22:08

I don’t get how these couples think they can live with no money. Even if you aren’t paying rent and growing your own food there’s still other things you need money for; medicines, clothes, school trips etc etc, it’s like they’ve not thought about it at all and the last 2 families had no plans for earning money.

DoryNow · 20/05/2018 10:03

Exactly Charlyn they kept congratulating themselves on all the food they had produced, which was great but surely there is a limit to what they could either use fresh or store for future.
Selling their surplus, eggs, fruit, veg etc could provide a small but steady income to say, offset the cost of a small freezer once they have the house finished or put aside for the kids shoes/ clothes in future as they grow.

I couldn't live that hand to mouth with such small kids to care for. One period of illness/ minor accident to either parent that meant they couldn't work would be catastrophic.

JediJim · 22/05/2018 22:33

Just been watching on catch up. Can’t believe the lady from
London, movin to rain forest in Ecuador. She left her poor elderly mother behind, as well as taking her young daughter there. Although her husband is from Ecuador himself.
But that family that moved to Bali. My heart broke for those poor kids being forced to move into that lifestyle. Thankfully they moved to Italy.
Sorry I just feel bad for the kids in these families being forced into this.

LascellesMoustache · 04/06/2018 16:50

Also just watched the Bali episode on Catch Up, actually cant believe those people... for a start they arent living for free if they are prepared to bank on other peoples kindness eg the Australian man, and the man who let them take a Jackfruit from the tree. Thats still money, just someone elses?! He infuriated me that he didnt want to spend money but was happy spending other peoples. Glad they decided to go back to Italy, amd their kids reactions said it all.

climbingcorfecastle · 23/06/2020 14:11

I just watched the Portugal one and felt so sorry for the daughters she left behind. They didn't seem that bright really, he gave up his teaching job for a NMW job and she didn't work so it shouldn't have come as a shock that with 5 kids money would be very tight. I don't know why they thought it was a choice of food banks in UK or living in a tent in Portugal. She seemed to have completely opted out of her older daughters lives, earning £50 per month would mean that she couldn't pay maintenance or help them through university. r
The Ecuador one was really off the wall and vague, no mention at all of how they were going to financially survive.
