Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

I had forgotten all about Sawyer. Now he is handsome. I just don't get how anyone is finding Christie hot. Without his beard he is even less attractive

Mydogisthebest
I find fair haired men very attractive.

BurningTheToast · 30/05/2018 17:55

The debate re whether Barry Atsma/Christie is hot or not is an endlessly circular one. Everyone has different tastes - we could all look at our DPs or ExPs and see that. And our tastes might not even be consistent from one partner to another - I know mine haven't been.

eloisesparkle · 30/05/2018 18:03

I had to suspend disbelief.
Christie and his longing looks at NW.
I was really disappointed with the ending.
Will he won't he go to Chicago?
I don't really care.
The Goldie divorce.
What was all that about ?
The younger sister marrying the wimp ?
Mad.

Maybe because if you set a drama in a specific setting to highlight for instance strong women in a previously predominantly male environment you really should make it somewhat realistic and believable?

Yes dramatic licence but dont think everyone is going to swallow any old stuff you throw in.

AppleYumYum · 30/05/2018 18:33

I enjoyed it and found myself looking forward to Tuesday night, it's not BAFTA nomination material but sometimes I just want to sit there and watch something like this show after a long day. Sometimes you want non-realistic escapism where Hannah runs off with Christie vs what we'd probably decide in real life when we weighed it all up, brushing our teeth in a coma next to Nathan Hmm

I think Christie is incredibly attractive, agree def better with the beard!

I think after her succumbing to the lure of Christie (other than her Dad dying part) she looked like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders and she looked genuinely happy for the first time in 6 episodes, he looked so concerned for her waiting out the front of the house.

AppleYumYum · 30/05/2018 18:40

The Goldie divorce I think could have ended better, so the children signed off on the pension money being used all these years? Or just recently to sell the business? It didn't seem like he was in the process of selling.

I'd have been just as furious with them as the ex-husband, they are presented as professional adults. So do they now know that they have a Half brother who's been getting millions funneled into an account, where is the rage? They didn't seem as sympathetic to Goldie as I'd wish my children to be in that situation.

Violetroselily · 30/05/2018 19:25

I was disappointed in the Goldie/Davey divorce as I felt it was building up to a lot more than the pension revelation.

The singing part at the wedding was so twee and really not fitting with the rest of the series

HomerDancing · 30/05/2018 20:06

Does anyone know where Hannah’s dress - high neck blue floral one - is from ? I really like it !

HalleLouja · 30/05/2018 20:26

I really liked it. A bit of escapism with nice interiors and outfits.

I really liked NW’s younger dd’s dress at the wedding. My dd needs some more sequins in her wardrobe.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/05/2018 23:21

The singing part at the wedding was so twee and really not fitting with the rest of the series

I wonder if it was an in-joke, given that one of Nicola Walker's first film roles was the wedding singer in 4 Weddings and a Funeral?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 31/05/2018 00:29

There is a thread about Hannah's dress on Style and Beauty, last I looked people were saying it was probably insanely expensive Erdem

Slartybartfast · 31/05/2018 06:53

I missed the penultimate episode, but didnt bother with catch up.

S0upertrooper · 31/05/2018 09:10

Loved it but kept thinking how well Hannah had done coming from her job in the Co Op (Last Tango)!!!

Christie-Oh yeh!!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/05/2018 09:50

I wouldn't kick Stephen Mangan out of bed but him and Christie? No competition!

Peartree17 · 31/05/2018 10:14

Ah, yes - Erdem, beloved of the Duchess of C. I thought I'd seen that style before. Day dresses start at a mere £500 and run up to around £3k. Do designers provide their frocks free of charge, I wonder, for the exposure or does the Beeb pay full whack to kit out the cast? It's a lot of moolah per episode in that case.

AppleYumYum · 31/05/2018 11:50

I just watched the end again and now it almost sounds like as Nathan is leaving the wedding reception that he gives her the go ahead to do what she's got to do/go through... but to come back to him.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 31/05/2018 12:20

Yes appleyumyum that’s what I thought as well

Loopytiles · 31/05/2018 12:23

Yes, me to, and that bit was grim. Perhaps he thought it’d even things up. Duh.

Peartree17 · 31/05/2018 16:14

Yes, that's what I took from it too. Frankly, can't imagine anything much more chilling to the loins than being waved off to your paramour by both husband and mother.

AppleYumYum · 31/05/2018 16:21

Maybe he's betting on her realising once she is with Christie that it isn't 'love' and she'll run back to brush her teeth and remove eye make up next to him again Hmm

HalleLouja · 31/05/2018 18:34

I thought her mum was telling her not to have an affair. But obviously misinterpreted the conversation.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/05/2018 19:05

"I also think the mum has had a lesbian life partner all this time - older office manager lady. "

Why do you still think this? She's obviously still in love with the father. She's presumably had the same secretary for a number of years and they're close friends. I don't see any real reason to think there's a lesbian affair.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/05/2018 19:19

I liked Hannah's dress. Why do you lot not like it?
(Obviously, it's not worth 500+)

Gwenhwyfar · 31/05/2018 19:20

All this talk about Christie being better looking than Hannah. Isn't this maybe what we get when women make drama? We're just so used to it being the other way around.
