Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:
Cakecrumbsinmybra · 29/05/2018 22:59

Was that the last episode???

squidgesquodge · 29/05/2018 23:03

I found tonight's episode a bit tedious. Too much focus on the wedding (what was going on with the flowers in Rose's hair?!) and also think it ridiculously unlikely that Christie is just hanging around waiting for her and is going to change his life on her whim.

NamedyChangedy · 29/05/2018 23:03

Gosh that was an outrageously infuriating ending. It might be superficial but I'm struggling to see Hannah and Christie together, based on their very different levels of attractiveness. I really doubt that Christie would be quite so besotted with her after nearly 20 years - the guy has options!

I assumed she'd torture Nathan for a bit and then go back to him. Asking Christie not to go to Chicago this late in the day is just rude!

I also think the mum has had a lesbian life partner all this time - older office manager lady.

So there'll definitely be a second season then? I imagine I'll stick with it, although I mostly watch the show for the interiors - no, it's not remotely realistic but I'm not a lawyer so it doesn't bother me quite as much Smile

I really wanted to know where the mums dress for the wedding was from even though I'm half her age

PollyBanana · 29/05/2018 23:18

Not sure what they can do with a second series.
Mother Defoe has been kicked out and Father Defoe has kicked the bucket.
Drippy Rose and Dripping James living happily ever after until his sniffing drives her to murder him?
6 episodes of Hannah seesawing between Nathan and Christie ?

blueskypink · 29/05/2018 23:22

I am getting annoyed with Hannahs wishy washy act. She talks like she is breathless all the time and about to go into a complete panic or what she is saying is vitaly important. Its mostly just sound bites!

I think that's Nicola Walker's acting style isn't it - to look like she's about to say something, pause whilst she seems to reconsider her words and then speak. There's no spontaneity. It's like she's choosing her words very carefully, the implication being that when she does speak it's really important. It's why I find her extremely irritating as an actor. She's the same in everything she does.

Middleoftheroad · 29/05/2018 23:56

I swear she said "go to Chicago"

Found it irritating that she somehow keeps Christie dangling. The tease. And Nathan. What is her secret because that just wouldn't happen IRL.

Mind you, she doesn't have to oversee homework or pack school bags or make World Book Day costumes or iron or drive to after school clubs, so guess lots of time to just concentrate on her love life, career and hairdresser appointments.

It was nice to see Rose's hair out of that awful scraped back half top knot style, but the flowers in the hair were quite bizarre.

Willow2017 · 29/05/2018 23:58

Thats why i wouldnt chose something to watch just because she is in it. Gets bloody annoying after a while.

WhatILoved · 30/05/2018 00:14

Have to say agree with all comments about annoying acting and yes how does she have the time for so much procrastination, but have totally loved it. Really is an hour away from real life. Can't wait for another series

Japanesejazz · 30/05/2018 00:15

Well if that hasn’t put you off marriage nothing will

Bouledeneige · 30/05/2018 00:25

I didnt love this episode. The previous episode made me cry, particularly finding out about his infidelity....

But this one I agree Hannah was just annoyingly vapid and miserable all the time. (Christie is gorgeous - but I couldn't see why he loved her forever....). I was sad about the choice she made at the end.

Didnt care at all when the Dad died, quite like the wedding pair but the trial and financial problems didnt grab me at all. And the strangeness about the mother still financing the Dad all those years - disatsifyingly unresolved.

Agree about Nina's dress - and I found her more interesting than Hannah and her story with the comedian was more likeable.

WaitRun · 30/05/2018 00:52

I found it very bizzare how Nathan was blaming Hannah for the problems. Nathan was the one who went and had an affair recently. If he was so concerned about Hannah liking Christie, why didn't he bring it up in the 20 years?

Christie feels too good looking for Hannah. But maybe that's why it comes across really endearing - that he really really loves her. Or maybe it's just the way he looks at her ...

VanGoghsDog · 30/05/2018 01:15

Hannah annoyed me by having no words.
I mean, a lawyer, who had nothing to say to save her marriage after all that stuff about not breaking up her family?

And the mothers "speech" at the wedding was cringey. As were all the lingering looks.

Also hated Hannah's dress.

WaitRun · 30/05/2018 01:36

Hannah's dress really was awful. I can't see what Christie sees in her tbh. Their friendship must have been very solid. She is obviously a very strong woman.

TeisanLap · 30/05/2018 04:30

I found it very strange when the mother told Hannah something along the lines of it’s an affair darling - make sure it doesn’t become more or interfere with real life.

I couldn’t imagine saying that to any of my children. Just why would you? But it did make me think oh, who did you have an affair with? What have you been getting away with for years? Perhaps we’ll find out in the last series.

And yes, she told him not to go to Chicago.

I hope he does. How weak jaw does him no favours and Nathan is far better looking.

TeisanLap · 30/05/2018 04:44

Rupert is now a very successful photographer/member of the paparazzi. He owns his own agency and has been responsible for some of the worst intrusions into a persons private life.

TeisanLap · 30/05/2018 04:44

Sorry. Wrong thread

Loopytiles · 30/05/2018 05:34

Grin Rupert! Perhaps he could be a third option for Hannah!

Loopytiles · 30/05/2018 05:41

I found it realistic that Hannah didn't want to speak at the wedding in the circumstances. And it wasn't up to her to "save her marriage": she hadn't decided yet whether she wanted to be married anymore. Nathan organised an affair online, and came onto her sister, and that's just what she knows about! And then he blamed her.

Nathan not better looking than Dutch guy! But each to their own!

The younger DC seemingly requiring no parenting or childcare point is annoying me even more in retrospect, it should either have been made clear that Nathan took a back seat at work to parent more, which would be very unrealistic given his occupation, and could be a big factor in her decision about her marriage since he may get more residency, or explained what they did for childcare.

Peterrabbitscarrots · 30/05/2018 06:53

My favourite moment - Goldie smiling and saying “hurts, doesn’t it?” when the OW asked if she had slept with her ex Grin

DaffoDeffo · 30/05/2018 07:31

Dreadful last episode. Predictable, boring and annoying. You knew the dad was going to die, Hannah got more annoying as the episode went on! Oh and it's so easy to just buy the law firm out, just like that!

squidgesquodge · 30/05/2018 07:32

I re-watched the last few minutes last night and definitely think she was telling him not to go to Chicago as he grins. She's also looking smug whilst looking sad. I agree it's ridiculous - and said so last night - that he is seemingly hanging around for her but the story writer could probably say it's just timing as his marriage didn't end that long ago.
bluesky you've just explained to me exactly what it is that I don't like about the Hannah character's acting. I've only ever seen her in Last Tango in Halifax and have been more impressed with her in this series but it's the weighty pause which annoys me. I hadn't quite been able to put my finger on it. Imagine living with her and her being like that each time you discuss what to buy in the supermarket or where to go on holiday?

Loopytiles · 30/05/2018 07:39

My DH sometimes delivers mundane news or requests in gothic style, or with pregnant pauses, to amuse me and the DC. Perhaps he and Nicola Walker would be a good match onscreen!

Dulra · 30/05/2018 08:19

Agree with others that this episode was incredibly weak and tedious. I struggle to like any of the characters and when that happens you just lose interest in what happens to any of them. I have found Hannah very irritating all series I have only ever seen the actress in Spooks years ago and I thought she was great in that but she just came across as such a cold fish in this I honestly couldn't see what anyone found remotely interesting or attractive about her (I am not talking about looks I find her very striking). The constant staring, through the office windows, pausing and saying nothing of interest ever was frustrating. The lack of any kind of emotional relationship with her kids I could go on and on. Not sure where a second series would go but if it concentrates on her and will she won't she leave him and the kids, go with Christie... I don't think I will bother.

As for the mums's wedding speech cringy all about her
