But shock was Switzerland not getting through, when they were favourites to win the whole thing!

3andnomore · 12/05/2007 15:13

Well....essbee...I am also having my own "mini Party"...I suppose today is the day that dh is actually pleased to be in Afghanistan, rather then having to sit through it.
A few years ago, I was visiting my family and friends in Germany, and my best friend had a proper little Eurovision Party...it was that year when the german entry was that weird Guildo or whatever his name was, guy...! The party was fabulous

Well, Serbia won....not that they deserved it!
I voted for Germany, partly because I am german, but also because I htought that, for a change, they actually had a reasonable good entry...wouldn't vote for germany if I truely don't liek their entry, lol!
My es liked Moldivia ( I think) the best...it was the last entry that was seen
Ukraine was just terrible...and France...my oh my....or Sweden...yikes...lol!
Shame scooch didn't get more points...thought they were, compared to what was on offer, quite good, lol!
The russian entry...did they sing someone elses song, or somehting...I am sure it was a chart song they did...it sounded mighty familiar...but then, Scooches song sounded like a Steps song, didn't it?

Was it me, or was everyone gay or extremely camp?

I mean there wasn't much there for a heterosexual housewife was there?

chacha3 · 13/05/2007 09:52

3andnomore · 13/05/2007 10:32

3andnomore · 13/05/2007 10:34

Only Ireland did worse...but they were really rubbish this year, I thought...not as rubbish as Ukraine who did really well, (they came 2.) but well, their entry wasn't for me, lol!

I am starting a campaign to get a better entry next year. Anyone interested?

onefootinthegravy · 13/05/2007 14:14

TBH I used to love the eurovision song contest but now its just a joke when all the neighbours vote for each other no matter how crap the song is. They should just play the songs and not let anyone know which song was from which country, then just maybe the best song might win rather than the country who has the most friends !!
As most of europe hates the UK its no surprise we never get anywhere! Even if bloody Elton John, George Michael or Robbie Williams entered we would still fininsh in the bottom three. We should do that one year just to prove a point!! Am I taken this too seriously? probably!! But then I am sad

fsmail · 13/05/2007 15:14

I think we need a proper credible band not Elton John or anybody like that. Our Indie music is the best in the World and I am sure either a young band or a young folk singer from this country would do better than somebody made up for the competition. It would make us be seen to take the competition more seriously otherwise we might as well not bother.

ruty · 13/05/2007 18:30

our eurovision entries have been appalling for years. no point in sour grapes when we are so bad.

kimi · 13/05/2007 18:53

SHOCK HORROR we did not win

UnquietDad · 13/05/2007 22:24

We need some hungry young 4-piece guitar band. Our popular music is exported all over Europe, and yet in the last ten years we have done appallingly badly at Eurovision.

3andnomore · 14/05/2007 09:55

Thing is, it's the public that votes for the entry that goes in....this year there was a fab Celine Dion kind a entry that was runner up to scooch...but ho hum...if I rememebr right, last year ,or was it the year before, the poor girl couldn't even hold a note...!
Scooch , for me, was to much like Steps...!
Now, wouldn't it be cool if Robbie Williams would enter the Eurovision Song contest...!
As for teh voting system, something has to be done, otherwise more countries follow Monaco and will just say, oh sod it...what's the point.

Monaco, now they were a good band. They could have won with "What Do You Want From Me?"

Nobody with any kind of chart career will do it. They approached the Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and Elton John in the lean years of the late 80s/early 90s, but none of them would touch it.

I think Mike Read's idea of having X-Factor style open auditions is an excellent one. There is bound to be an unknown singer-songwriter out there who would do a good job. It's not that long since we did OK - Jessica Garlick came 3rd in 2002.

3andnomore · 14/05/2007 10:47

True the X-factor girl did well...and didn't some famous Bird do it the year before last, or was that only last year...! It's all a fuzz...lol!

UnquietDad · 14/05/2007 10:50

Also they ould always have a song written by someone with pop pedigree, e..g Vince Clarke or Tennant/Lowe or Gary Barlow or Cathy Dennis, and performed by an unknown.

ruty · 14/05/2007 11:43

Scooch was such a stupid song and such as stupid act. I mean what was all the aeroplane stuff about [apart from being ultra camp and a Steps take off] 'Flying the Flag' for you is nothing to do with bloody flying.

LieselVentouse · 14/05/2007 12:30

3andnomore - please tell me you googled that

3andnomore · 14/05/2007 12:36

lol ruty!

And Liesel, you will be relieved to hear that I, indeed, googled it...I maybe sad, but not as sad as to know all the UK entries over the years...don't know all the german ones, neither...only thing I remember is that Germany won with Nicole/Ein bischen Frieden (or something along those lines) many, many years ago, and that we had some odd acts over the past few years (but really did like this years entry...but I am a sucker for Big Band stuff anyway
