Have I Got News For You - could have done with a female host this evening

Very disappointed this evening - it felt a though the programme was all over the place this evening. I'm not sure if my view was somewhat influenced by my newfound dislike of Hislop and Merton after their comments about women presenters recently.
There are loads of women who would be brilliant on this programme......

Yes, I find myself looking at Merton and (especially) Hislop with more jaded and critical eyes than previously. A shame as I really admired them .

Merton was on the One show absolutely praising this episode. Yes some of it was very funny, but not,necessarily a classic episode.

I thought it was funny, but I mostly enjoyed Steph McGovern, who was quick, confident and engaging.

OMG we turned it off after about 10 mins. What was going on? Paxo sounded like a nutter, loud and rude but not in his normal way. Must have been drunk or on something, surely. We couldn't stand listening to him and gave up on the whole thing. Shame as I love Steph.

Paxman really fucked up. I used to love this show but they steadfastly refuse to take an honest look at themselves. They blame women for their boys club rather than considering for a second that they could be the problem here. I'm sad and never wanted it to get cancelled but it looked so stale last night and just not funny anymore.

Definitely not a great one - Paxman is just not the right kind of host for this show. Fortunately next week is Victoria Coren Mitchell who is excellent.

Wasn't one of the better episodes, was it. I dislike Paxman anyway, but he was very odd last night.

Yep, as usual. What female politician would want to climb in to a bear pit like that and attempt to keep order? Apart from Anna Soubry apparently

Steph was great. Paxman was tedious and shouty. Awful

Very glad to hear that Victoria CM is back next week.

Paxo was hugely shouty, totally off the ball and him and Merton spent the entire show sniping at one another in a very tedious faux jokey brother in laws who secretly hate each but pretend to be bffs manner

I thought Steph was very on top of it , and did not stand for the boys club malarkey

I also thought it sounded like the BBC was a den of thievery with everyone's lunch being pinched :o and that made me laugh :o

Paxman could barely string a sentence together - I'm not surprised Merton started off reading the autocue, clearly Paxman wasn't getting on with it.

It was one of the weirder ones.

It was dire. Not remotely funny. Didn’t make me laugh once.
Steph was good.
It was all just a bit tired and dull. Needs freshening up a bit.

Normally like Paxman a bit but he was totally wrong for this show. I am sure it will be better next week with Victoria Coren.

I've not seen it yet, it's recorded and I cannot wait to see it tomorrow. Glad to hear it's better because I am quite fond of HIGNFY in principle.

Hignfy is boringly testosterone dominated when there are fewer than 2 women. I'm only watching it when there are 2 women (or more, if that ever happens). If all MNers do likewise they will eventually notice the correlation in their viewing figures.

I'm noticing covert sexism a lot more these days.
