utterly brilliant, thought i may actually die from laughing, am sooo impressed the serious historians etc kept the straight face!
If you missed it please watch via catch up or whatever - i think its the funniest thing i've seen since Motherland (probably no coincidence that its the same main actor)

It's reminded me to read the wonderful 1066 And All That (Sellar & Yeatman) again, which I assume Brooker and Morgan are fans of also Smile

Rainatnight · 06/04/2018 14:03

I feel like I'm really missing something but I just didn't find it that funny. And I do have a sense of humour, honest! I find loads of things funny. But it just seemed a bit try-hard, and that faux naive asking silly/funny questions of serious people isn't original - it was done better by Sacha Baron-Cohen.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 06/04/2018 14:07

hard ians wall

:)

DGRossetti · 06/04/2018 14:55

Was it true, the bit about inventing fire at one second past midnight on jan 1st and coming out of the stone age at 3pm on dec 31st

As a measure of how long we were "in the stone age" ?

Yup.

(Of course there is the question "which stone age ?" Paleo-, Mezo- (upper and lower) or Neo- ...)

coldcanary · 06/04/2018 15:01

It took me a while to get into her on Charlie Brooker but I think she’s brilliant.
The experts all know exactly what’s happening, they just have to try and keep a straight face while she’s interviewing them (someone involved with the programme answered a question about it on twitter). I wonder how many outtakes there are!

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 06/04/2018 15:11

Yup. whoa! I love that fact!

(Of course there is the question "which stone age ?" Paleo-, Mezo- (upper and lower) or Neo- ...) that's a question I don't even understand so I certainly shan't be asking Grin.

LineyDancer · 06/04/2018 15:52

I know this I know this!
Paeleo = old stone age tough tuber and cabbage stalk diet
Meso = middle stone age soft avocado and cress diet
Neo = new stone age bad, bad gluten and dairy diet that will kill you dead

Figgygal · 06/04/2018 15:55

Thanks for the reminder forgot it was on

Yorkshirebetty · 07/04/2018 08:57

I liked the bit about the Medieval diet and bread - fortunately not one was gluten intolerant because there wasn't a middle class yet Smile

goforkyourself · 07/04/2018 23:27

DoctorTwo · 08/04/2018 16:52

I loved this show, but I love Philomena Cunk. There were at least 8 proper belly laughs in that opening show.

Figgygal · 08/04/2018 19:38

My husband has coeliac disease and so gluten allergies he didn't like that bit Grin

Yorkshirebetty · 08/04/2018 21:26

Oh no, Figgygal, poor lad! I think it wasn't a reference to coeliac disease, but the self diagnosed gluten intolerance that has become widespread Wink

DamsonGin · 08/04/2018 21:30

Made me laugh, I do like her.

needtogiveitablow · 09/04/2018 06:50

The doomsday book expert was brilliant - she managed to stay so straight faced even when asked how the souls could be freed Grin

ILikeMyChickenFried · 09/04/2018 08:21

My also celiac DH enjoyed the reference. He kinda likes the influx of middle.class gluten intolerance though as so many places now offer GF options when we eat out.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 10/04/2018 22:11

I'm laughing so hard at episode 2 that I nearly just choked on my tea

DamsonGin · 10/04/2018 22:13

Grin Spanish Amanda

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 10/04/2018 22:59

horror show nelson

LunchBoxPolice · 10/04/2018 23:07

Henry VIII being best remembered because he was fat and took up more room in our heads killed me.

elephantoverthehill · 10/04/2018 23:14

I loved that 'Brush Strokes' still has a part to play! As for Coeliac disease and any other intolerance etc. they would just die.

TwitterQueen1 · 10/04/2018 23:19

Horror show >>> Horatio Grin Grin

DoctorTwo · 11/04/2018 00:14

"why is Sir Walter Raleigh best remembered for his bike?"

CanIBuffalo · 11/04/2018 00:19

That bloke she spoke to about Nelson was fab. He looked properly cross.

Tiredemma · 11/04/2018 07:34

I need to watch this. Thanks for the reviews!
