I think she is bring forced into the whole girl thing by her mother, who loves the attention. And she probably believes it, in her own way. But if it gets as far as hormone treatment, and not just a boy who likes girl stuff, then that's dangerous. He/She might be gay. Or bi. But probably not genuinely transgender. And it seems to be about getting one over over on the dad.
