Just seen the final and the artist painting the commission.
Wonder what other people thought. I love this series.

Has anybody just watched the rip off BBC Big Painting Challenge?

Apparently I wasn't rubbish at art at school. I was 'naive' 'arbitrary' and 'bold with lines'.

I love this series and i loved Samira's work. I reckon if you want a portrait that looks like real life you can just take a photograph. What Samira does is looks beyond reality and captures enough of the sitter to be recognisable but also captures an ethereal 'otherness' which invites the viewer to fill in the blanks and spaces. Just brilliant.

Anyone watched the previous series? Interested to know which winner is ghe overall favourite?

The best artist from all the series is the winner of the first series Christian Hook , he’s fantastic .

Absolutely hated Samira's work and was very disappointed that she won. I record the programme to watch in peace when Dh isn't around making sarcy comments. Deleted the winner's final commission one without watching it. Couldn't be bothered, frankly. Loved Hettie's work and would have been very happy if she'd won.

Agree to a certain extent but you still need to catch likeness , which Samira never did.
I didnt watch that episode either Bananas for the same reason. I have seen the end result and it was awful.

We also didn’t watch the final commission show but we did look at the picture and I do think there is a slight likeness however I saw it with Kim Catrell standing next to it , had someone just asked me who it was as a stand alone piece I wouldn’t have had a clue . Style wise it was also extremely like the Zandra Rhodes and it’s not a style that attracts me .

It would interesting if she does make it as a portraight artist, as none of the celebs chose her picture to take home.

I love this series and I must confess that I shed a little tear when Graham Norton’s portrait was revealed. Samira’s Portrait of Kim was amazing - I always wondered how the winner would see through the Botox.

I'm starting from Series One. Just watched the episode in Ireland where the bloke stormed off and took his self portrait with him when he didn't get in the top three.

I'll be honest though. I didn't like his painting of 'Mrs Doyle In The Nip' or his self portrait at all.

Disappointed she won but dh and I feel the judge's always go out on a limb to keep us less educated in our place! Portrait of Kim cold and skimpy and alongside all those traditional portraits looked very out of place and amateurish.
