I was in the kitchen and shouted through jeezo Dr T gets everywhere how does the man keep up , I enjoyed tonights though it is sentimental guffage but what are we going to do with our Sundays now?

MrsJayy · 11/03/2018 22:12

It will just jump to 1964 after Xmas episode.

CurbsideProphet · 11/03/2018 22:15

Ah thanks MrsJayy
I know I couldn't believe Dr One Face kept a straight face when he said something about covering for the police station doctor. He's like Karl Kennedy in Neighbours - master of all trades, keeping the local health services going Grin

Clawdy · 11/03/2018 22:16

The nun weeping as she broke the news of JFK's assassination didn't strike me as very realistic. I was a teenager at the time, and remember people being very shocked, but I don't remember anyone actually crying.

PodgeBod · 11/03/2018 22:22

I was muttering at the Tv when Shelagh was ordering the midwives around in the clinic. Been back as a midwife about a week and of course she is in charge-at least with Dr Turner running the police clinic, the borstal and the mothers home she won't be needed as his secretary.
I lost it when the young mother called her child Barbara. I never knew how much I liked Barabara until she died.

gildashairflick · 11/03/2018 22:23

@Ickyockycocky when I was mistakenly told I had ovarian cancer two years ago, my family and I all agreed we would dye our hair teal in solidarity for what I thought was my imminent certain death. I am fond of the colour for that reason but the CTM teal overload is too much!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/03/2018 22:27

I'm puzzled as to why Tom is still a curate. In the C of E curacy only lasted a couple of years. He's been there long enough to get engaged to two different people. There is never any mention of the vicar.

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2018 22:36

Reality shmeality, I sobbed my eyeballs out tonight.

IndominousRex · 11/03/2018 22:42

GreenOr, Phyllis said ‘here he is’ when the young girl’s baby was born. Then ‘he’ was called Barbara!

AppleKatie · 11/03/2018 22:43

😭another episode another sob.

marchonto2018 · 11/03/2018 22:53

At least they didn't cram in as much drama as previous weeks. And Phyllis was crabby. Which was good. And real. And teal.

StripySocksAndDocs · 11/03/2018 22:56

I was not prepared for that to be last in the series.

AppleKatie · 11/03/2018 22:56

I thought they did cram in a lot of ‘stuff’ this week though.

Could have done without Angela’s pointless party and Sr Monica Joan’s bizarre birthday.

Reggie was my favourite though he’s brilliant.

StripySocksAndDocs · 11/03/2018 23:03

I'd been thinking there had not been a lot of births recently. S
Did a bit of a bumper lot in the last 10 mins!!

toldmywrath · 11/03/2018 23:09

Rex yes I thought they said he and next thing the baby was dressed in pink. That made me go huh? And then baby is now she and will be named Barbara.
I'm going to rewatch that bit tomorrow.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 23:46

Just caught up.

Fittingly wearing my teal annighty for the final episode of the series Grin

I didn't cry too much at that actually. Sr Julienne wiping off the name and Phylis delivering 'Barbara' and that was it.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 23:48

I got very irritated at "yeah we totally accept the gay men, lalala, nothing to see here" 🙄

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 23:51

Did I miss her, or was Sr Evangelina missing from the montage?

Oh, and I wondered why young mum of Baby Babs didn't give birth at the m&b home? Any idea?

LilacClouds · 12/03/2018 00:10

I'm sure there was a pic of Sr Evangelina in the montage - one of the wedding pics, on the right hand side - possibly (can't quite remember) Dr Turner and Shelagh's?

Also beyond young mum did give birth at M&B home? Confused where was it if it wasn't there?

LilacClouds · 12/03/2018 00:13

MyOther - Phyllis wasn't in the books (unlike Sr Monica Joan, Chummy, Trixie etc who were in the books), her character appears to have been created for the series. Probably an amalgamation of various nurses experiences from the time, done by researchers, but not a real person from the books.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 12/03/2018 00:16

She was at the maternity home, the mother and baby Home is where chummy disappeared to Grin
(Where I'm sure Phylis said she would be staying until Babs was adopted. So if she's going there, why did she not birth there? They definitely do the birth stage as that's why chummy was there before she decided to stay)

LilacClouds · 12/03/2018 00:25

I thought this episode wasn't quite the same as others. Very jumpy and some odd inclusions. Fred shaving Tom, I mean... since when was Fred a barber? I can see it's meant to be a caring intimate moment giving Tom some acceptable personal human contact as everyone is so stiff upper lip and hand-patting, but Tom, devastated as he is, is still walking/talking/dressing/etc. Functioning. It didn't strike the right chord watching Tom being obediently groomed by Fred like a Chihuahua whilst clutched to Fred's tummy.

Also the gay men and dementia were this weeks' "issues", shoved in, and (I always think) just as well no babies required a MW just at the moment when they were ALL somewhere else, this week at the funeral. Not even a person left to man the phones.

Also, snow in Autumn? (trees leaves were just starting to turn brown but nowhere close to falling). OK I'm picking but there was no need for snow machine.

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 12/03/2018 04:20

I love Phylis so much but it won't be the same without Barbara.

The vanishing nuns is interesting considering they were all in the chapel last episode, for the first time in ages. Where do they go in between? Is it supposed to show the changing times of doctors overtaking midwives?

1964 next series so it looks like we have awhile before the teal vanishes into the orange and brown extravaganza of the 70s then.

StripySocksAndDocs · 12/03/2018 04:43

The two men was a funny storyline wasn't it? It was like it never really got off the ground.

We got:
Introduced to them
Ham-handedly shown he was forgetful/confused
Told he was gay (and Dr Turner - fuddy duddy extraordinaire- had no ississue AT all).
Told so was her dad gay and she was unhappy about it
Discover the mum was ok with it.

That was it. No one else really involved in it. No prejudice met- anymore than us as the viewer knowing they would have had. Hence being on the bench at night.

It really could have could have just as easily been a story about his brother (or old navy colleague) with dementia story.

Fionne · 12/03/2018 04:43

Phyllis said to the new mum, "here's your prize." Not "he's your prize."
