Why have the big bang theory sent Bernadette to bed?

Is there an off screen reason for this? It seems an odd thing to do just as a storyline.

She was heavily pg in real life much further along than her character so was to hide that

Neither explains why she would need to stay in bed in the storyline.

Didn't she get told to go on bed rest due to work related stress?

I didn’t realise that. But even so, they could have found lots of more inventive ways to hide her bump. She could be in the shower, behind a desk, driving, carrying a laundry basket. I really don’t like that they’ve made Halley invisible and now Bernadette is almost invisible too.

Agree with OP. Was discussing this with DH a couple of weeks ago. It's weird and kind of leaves a bad taste that I can't put my finger on.

I mean we can cope with a tv actress being pregnant IRL. We know she’s not really called bernadete and married to Howard!

The actress had a miscarriage in her previous pregnancy and is on bed rest apparently.

But surely coming into work to “act being on bed rest” is nothing at all like proper bedrest? you still have to come to work, learn lines, rehearse, have hair and make up, record, record again, record again.
