Who needs cocoa when you've got a cheeky Sauv Blanc before bed?

Someone please buy Andrew a new pair of trousers that reach his shoes and some new socks if he is going in tonight

After his BOTS appearance the other night I think he needs some

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 15:40

I absolutely understood how you formed the comparison Chilly

I think it's really important to remember that what we see is what the producers choose for us to see and some people - possibly the people more likly to vote, are very highly influenced and that's why opinions can turn on a sixpence depending on that night's show highlights.

That said, I don't really give any credence to the public vote in terms of you, me and our friends picking up the phone even if we did vote 50 or 100 times. I think the winner benefits from automatic dialling software block voting and that's why I don't bother. Now whether that block voting would be via mangement agents, TV companies who may have a vested interest in particular contestants, or betting syndicates, is a matter for speculation only, but I remain very cyncial about the amount of footage we're allowed to see and how well that truly represents the contestants' time in the house.

If I'm right that would certainly explain to my personal satisfaction, Jim Davidson and Stephen Bear's wins and the likes of Helen Wood in non celebrity BB.

If Shourtney wins in this particular year, to me it will be akin to Chantelle Houghton winning a series of Celebrity Big Brother.

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 16:10

Yes chillytoes, those chilly ankles made me feel cold.

I have realised that I am now genuinely old (48)- Seeing badly dressed young people makes me feel cold and I identify more with Ann Widdecombe than Shane J. Old, I tell you.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 16:11

As for tonight's showing of the 'party' task, going back in Channel 5 has confirmed that it will be Daniel, Ginuwine, John Barnes and India Willoughby joining Ann, Jess, Shane, Shane and Wayne.

badabing36 · 31/01/2018 16:16

Missrabbitneedsabreak whilst I don’t think Shane J is a villain I think he is very calculating.

Palling up with the lads seemed to be the opposite of the principled man he came across as at the start of the series. The doe-eyed clinging to that shithead seemed to be out of character for a 35 year old man.

He then through the shithead under the bus, actually saying ‘I don’t know what game he’s playing now, but I’m not going along with it.’

Then when he gets the letter from home there’s more lgbtqi than ‘I miss you’ in it. Suddenly he’s not only bringing the Ann stuff back up, and at the same time trying to make both the other gay members of the house look like Uncle Toms. The virtue signallers love all of this.

But I most pissed off and yet unsurprised that no-one gives a flying fuck about the sexism in the supposed ‘year of the woman’.

Sorry for going on.

springtulip · 31/01/2018 16:20

. Remember he told Andrew not to call her a cunt or bitch
Yes he did while at the same time enjoying hearing Ann getting a slagging. You could tell by his smirk he was enjoying it but obviously wanted to distance himself from that kind of talk. Where as Andrew is obviously used to people who think it's normal to call a woman a "cunt".

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 16:33

badabing36 But I most pissed off and yet unsurprised that no-one gives a flying fuck about the sexism in the supposed ‘year of the woman’.

Do you mean in the house or comments on this thread?

Personally and I said this before, I'm pleased about the sexism being broadcast in the so called Year of the Woman because it demonstrates how much there is still about and if it's made the likes of Jess and people who follow her change her mind about having to put up with it, then GOOD.

I really liked when Andrew was sledging in the endurance task with the feather that both Ashley and Jess said he could bother them all he liked, they wouldn't be going anywhere and they put their money where their mouths were. It was horrible but Daniel saying he'd gone in there to change people's perception of him, only to reinforce the worst of it and Andrew being, well Andrew I suppose, showed his true colours too.

MrsJayy · 31/01/2018 16:37

Hopefully Andrew will go back to his actual day job and we never see him again unless he ends up on ex on the beach where he isn't an actual Ex but courtney will rock up all pouty and making it totes awk 😂

badabing36 · 31/01/2018 16:39

In the house and on Twitter, this thread is very refreshing. Especially with the annighties etc, making it more fun and less enraging.

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 16:52

En, i think being around Ann and Amanda has done Jess and Ashley no end of good. I do think young women need to be assured that they are not obliged to live up to Male fantasies. Did you hear that, Shane J?

Alwaysinmyheart · 31/01/2018 16:57

I think it’s entirely appropriate for there to have been sexism in the house, as that is what most women have to endure on a daily basis. Why should the B.B. House be any different?

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 17:12

I've had a brilliant publicity idea that I'd like to put to Shane's agent and through them to the BB house.

Finals Night, Courtney's there in an Annightie (not an Annenightie) a Jessingown, Wayne Sleepers and no corset. Then if she wins, as I'm pretty sure she will, the first words she says are 'Forget glamour, tonight Courtney's comfy' Grin

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 31/01/2018 17:28

Although Ann has been sexist too, in a different way of course.

It's not black and white at all. For example, I totally empathised with Ann's eye roll when Courtney said 'surely a lady should always sit gingerly?' as she sprawled on the sofa, but within minutes of that came her dreadful bitter speech about a tilted playing field.

Basically, humans are complicated being, mmm'kay?

OnTheList · 31/01/2018 18:09

Yes, if ann had not been there I reckon Jess would have reverted to her ex on the beach persona. All tits and flashing and swearing and getting pissed.

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 18:30

But I've just seen a clip of her sobbing because people she respects disapprove of people having sex on telly. Sad

It's challenging me a bit, to be honest.

Missrabbitneedsabreak · 31/01/2018 18:31

I think the women being in there alone at first set a civilised tone that thankfully people like Jess have continued with. I think the strong intelligent women in there have been a good influence on her. it may have been very different if the men had been in there from the start - she would have possibly formed early allegiances with some of the men close to her in age and perhaps then wouldn't have forged the friendships she did with the older women. Having seperate bedrooms probably helped too with bonding all the women together

mirialis · 31/01/2018 19:05

I only had half an eye on that as I was watching on you tube at work pretending to do the accounts but I assumed the tilted playing field was part of her Tory politics (i.e.) the party that says "we've had two female prime ministers and don't agree with AWS - what have Labour done?" I personally am really undecided on AWS (though obviously support them being actually for women!) - can see very valid arguments for them for sure and definitely see holes in the Tory party argument... but is it anti-feminist?

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 31/01/2018 19:27

I assumed the tilted playing field was part of her Tory politics (i.e.) the party that says "we've had two female prime ministers and don't agree with AWS

It's not a Tory outlook per se; there are Tories, both MPs and just party members/voters who don't share her view on positive discrimination. But it is more prevalent in her party. I am also not what I think of positive discrimination, although it does drive up diversity when it's used. I'm wary that it leads to resentment and perceptions of an easy ride like Ann's.

But I think that particular snippet is part of her general world view, that there's no need for feminism because so far as she can see, the battle is won. Which is, I think, anti-feminist because it's not true.

It's not an unusual view for a woman of her background, but it requires one not to think about a whole host of issues that continue to be a problem. Her outlook is unashamedly NOT feminist as most current feminists would consider it - she has repeatedly described modern feminism as whingeing - and during her stay she has clearly been uncomfortable with situation where men are supposed to defer to women, and been more forgiving of male bad behaviour than female.

Silk29 · 31/01/2018 19:41

Just caught up with last night! Loved the girl group performances, especially Malika, Jess, and Shane L. Wayne was hilarious too. I saw a fab tweet quoting Ann, "I will not sing 'slam your body down and wind it all around'" accompanied by a GIF of her on the ground being wound all around by Anton du Beke Grin

No surprises with the evictions, am very glad that Shourtney is still there.

IhaveChillyToes · 31/01/2018 19:42

Enrique - love the idea of Ann comfy nightwear

Annnightie SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 19:43

What this will have done for Jess and probably Ashley too is opened their eyes to options and then whatever they choose going forward is up to them, they'll know they don't just have to go down a prescribed route, they can challenge and say No, I'm not doing that.

I think going on something like Ex on the Beach, Geordie Shore, Love Island and Big Brother it must be easy to think you're fitted into role and blindly follow it like a sheep under the pressure to fulfil.
Ann and Malika and Amanda will have demonstrated that just because you're in there, it doesn't mean you've sold your soul.

Hopefully they'll carry that lesson for life and apply it to relationships too.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 31/01/2018 19:46

Chilly Annighties wasn't my idea. I coined Wayne Sleepers and Jessingowns Grin and the Annenighties for your inner floosie

Team effort though isn't it.

picklemepopcorn · 31/01/2018 19:51

You definitely have the gift of the gab, Enrique!

As far as Ann being soft on the boys goes, I know she was kind to Danny, but generally I'm not sure. The boys though she was hard on them, at least Andrew and Shane. The girls do t think she was hard on them.

It was only really when the men were put on duty, and she objected. But I don't think it was about boys so much as about exploitation of individuals.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 31/01/2018 19:57

You absolutely did not coin Wayne Sleepers En - it was a blatant theft of my WayneSleepwear. Expect a letter from my lawyers.
