Love her. This is brilliant. She's such a people person.

We’re watchung it en famille with DS13 and DD10 and loving it - throwing up some interesting conversations and the DCs are enthralled by her.

Wallofglass · 12/01/2018 08:59

I can’t make up my mind about her. Sometimes she is provocative for the sake of it and she is not very knowledgable about some subjects but still has an opinion.

However she admits that she talks a lot of nonsense and she did come around a bit in the summer camp and the American citizenship ceremony.

Inkanta · 12/01/2018 09:45

Yes very fascinating. Just stumbled upon this and watched both episodes. She's great.

EllieMentry · 12/01/2018 09:56

I love her in this. I found her manner rather irritating and forced in the Marigold Hotel programmes (maybe to do with how it was edited), but she comes across very differently in this. Compassionate and measured, and ready to reconsider her preconceptions.

JustDanceAddict · 12/01/2018 16:48

She’s fab. Amazing that she’s 76 and doing this programme. You’re never too old to challenge yourself.

VQ1970 · 16/01/2018 14:01

I don't particularly like her but I love America so am watching it for that reason. Having said that, she's a great character to do this because she's not afraid of speaking her mind and saying what she thinks even though the recipient is in complete disagreement.

It's great that she's looking at things from all walks of life and is talking with people from different backgrounds and trying to find out what makes them tick although I'm not sure she totally understood the situation for some of the girls in the prison despite the empathy (?) she had for them.

There are certainly some odd balls around!

redexpat · 16/01/2018 14:15

Timefortea if im ever having a bad day and need a laugh I watch that very episode of graham norton.

RhiannonOHara · 17/01/2018 16:32

Only seen the first one so far, but I thought she was excellent. She challenged the man from Congo about his 'America is better than anywhere else' assertively but not rudely. And I was very touched by how she got on with the young men involved in or ex-of gangs; how impressed she was at the guy freestyling for her, and how bashful the ex-drug dealer got when he told her he loved Harry Potter. They were impressive and beautiful young people who just had the bad luck to live where they did, and her approach really brought that out IMO.

numbereightyone · 17/01/2018 16:34

She really touched the two female prisoners with her kind words. It was incredibly moving to watch that.

WindyWednesday · 17/01/2018 17:58

She is hilarious on graham norton. She has been on a few times and is a fabulous guest.

Springiscoming123 · 17/01/2018 18:03

is the series finished now??

Mogginthemog · 17/01/2018 19:50

I think there should be one more because I’m sure it was going to end in New Orleans? I’ve really enjoyed it so far and admire her amazing people skills. I don’t think she’s telling us anything we don’t know - black and Hispanic people suffer dreadful racism, rich society folk live in a bubble, women in jail have a rough life and drug addiction keeps them being reimprisoned etc etc. I’m still finding it fascinating though.

RhiannonOHara · 18/01/2018 10:15

Ep 3 is on iPlayer here but oddly it just says it's on 'next Wednesday', which sounds like they're hedging their bets. Confused

woodlanddreamer · 18/01/2018 14:17

It was bumped by the football last night. According to the radio times it's on next Wednesday

Timefortea99 · 18/01/2018 14:38

They said after last week's show it would be on again in 2 weeks.

She used to have a house in St Ives in Cornwall. I remember going there and thinking, it's a small place, wonder if I will see her. And I did on the very day I arrived.

She was sitting on a bench by the sea front. She looked like she was full of mischief. I like a mischievous looking person. Didn't speak to her.

Timefortea99 · 18/01/2018 14:39

And don't forget that for years she was the voice of Cadburys Caramel Bunny...Used to get the guys going.....

RhiannonOHara · 18/01/2018 16:16

Ah, OK, thanks woodland.

RhiannonOHara · 18/01/2018 16:22

Ah, OK, thanks woodland.

WindyWednesday · 18/01/2018 18:33

I missed seeing it last night. Was all really with my bag of minstrels and bloody football was on.

I checked and she doesn’t Twitter, other wise I’d tell her how I think she’s fab. I know she thinks she’s fab too, but I want to tell her.

SouthWestmom · 24/01/2018 21:48

She's back! Enjoyed the Quiverful family

The guy who hated all Jews and wants them sterilised and sent to Madagascar Angry how fucking awful and poor Miriam having to listen to that bullshit

MoonriseKingdom · 24/01/2018 22:11

I enjoyed her talking to the cowboy at the beginning. He seemed genuinely rather taken with her even though their politics were obviously rather different. His house/ location was stunning.

I enjoyed the Quiverful family. They seemed very loving of each other although I don’t know how they would be if any of their offspring went off the proscribed path.

Great series!

Timefortea99 · 24/01/2018 22:29

She articulates things so beautifully. I am talking about words not the farts though!

Springiscoming123 · 24/01/2018 23:36

please make some more

Kidsarekarma · 25/01/2018 08:13

I watched last night and found it very interesting. My jaw almost hit the floor listening to the idiot banging on about Jewish people - how dare he not speak directly to Miriam! I love her, she's fabulous.
