Can anyone fill me in on what Ann said about working mothers please?
I must've only been half listening as the vibe I got was that women's roles have totally changed these days but whichever women did, they were judged to be somehow in the wrong.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 10/01/2018 17:17

Enrique, she doesn't understand why women have babies and then pay other people to look after them. Your children should be your priority, and that's just how it is.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 17:21

How do you know she has never had sex? She was in a three year relationship with a man who claims to have asked her out because of how she looked in hot pants at a party.

She describes herself as a virgin. I suppose she may not be telling the truth, but it's her own definition.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 17:24

Ok, fair enough, but I'm finding some of the comments about her personal life a bit much. Some posts seem to suggest she was born middle-aged.

Aaah. Thanks Umbrella
Ann reminds me very much of an intelligent and academic thinking friend of mine who is on the spectrum. Everything is very black and white to them, has to be practical and they display little emotion.

She has spoken about having a love of her life and it not working out, so I see her as someone who has become very stiff upper lip and must get on with it regardless.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 10/01/2018 17:29

It's nothing to do with being middle-aged. Is that rather ageist?! She has very defined views, and some limitations in her experience in life (and some unusual experiences in other areas), and does not let a lack of experience hold her back from having views. But that may well mean that she doesn't understand people having those experiences particularly well.

Obviously plenty of people with children are anti-abortion, and others think that women should stay home with their children, to give just two examples. Just read posts on here. But I think someone is more likely to not even consider things like contraceptive choices and the impact of pregnancy on a career when those things have never been a consideration for them.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/01/2018 17:33

Anne said if women want to have children then they should want to be with their child all the time and not work. Rachael said she wanted to return to work. Then AW said things have changed from when working mothers were looked down on to now SAHM are looked down on. All kind of ignores the fact that a lot of women don't have a choice financially.

Unlike a lot of posters on here I'm not #TeamAnn. I don't agree with her views, and she's made a career out of trying to translate those views into policies and impose them on the country.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 17:52

I was pointing out other people's ageist posts.

I don't agree with a lot of what she believes, but she's not the dinosaur some people (including Housemates) make out.

Fair point Sinister.

Ann had a lot of internalized misogyny. Despite being personally progressive ie not having relationships with men/children, having a “mans” career, it seems she still feels the need for men to be deferred to (even if it’s not her spefically doing the deferring). I wonder if being intelligent and not classically attractive has made her —pander— appeal to the good graces of in men in other ways.

I was a bit Hmm and Courtney’s explanation as to why women don’t want to be paid for on dates. I think it’s probably less to do with feeling emasculated and more to do with not feeling indebted and that they owe a man access to their bodies.

I still like Courtney but it did show me that he is very much a gay male with the usual male centric views that go with the culture and not some glittery man/women hybrid.

IsaSchmisa · 10/01/2018 18:04

I found it very difficult to watch Ann making that fuss over the labour pain when she, as a cabinet minister, was happy to make an order that a woman prisoner should be shackled whilst giving birth.

Chipstick10 · 10/01/2018 18:05

Omg are you serious ? How the hell is being concerned about someone’s background being a bigot ? I feel the same. I think she will be a disaster.

tiffanysfanny · 10/01/2018 18:08

Matthew Wright objects to the thought of sucking cock - yeah that seems about right. Whilst I agree that he shouldn’t have to consider males as sexual partners as he is a heterosexual man, I’m not surprised it is this that has peaked him, couldn’t imagine him getting his knickers in a twist of was just women who were going to be targeted by the trans cult. Wrong. He once said on his show he has experimented before , (70s). People including his mum thought he was gay. He said he isn't and it was away to find himself.

tiffanysfanny · 10/01/2018 18:09

Funny how people want the vote for India but still want her to remain in the house. Leave malika alone.

badabing36 · 10/01/2018 18:11

Belligerent yeah Courtney was great on trans issues, not so much on feminism.

Johnny thinks to himself ‘hmm I’ve got questions about feminism who shall I ask...

The woman who advocated for vulnerable girls...nah

The successful journalist who said she was a feminist on the first day...nah

The out lesbian actress who is very knowledgable about women’s issues....nope

The drag queen who fully admits he is a man....yeah he’ll know the most Hmm

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 18:15

Chip - you won't be surprised to learn that I agree with you.

Belligerent How do you square your comment "I wonder if being intelligent and not classically attractive has made her —pander— appeal to the good graces of in men in other ways" with your accusations of "internalised misogyny" in others?

Oddschecker is showing India as favourite to go. They're not often wrong, especially as most voting is done by betting syndicates these days. Actually, I wonder if the increased audience this time will change that?

Yeah, Courtney got it wrong there. It would have been better to say that Jonny was talking utter shite and has a very outdated, stereotypical view of feminism as ball breaking, serially offended women. Because who really would be offended by a man opening a door for them?

But in Courtney's defence, she did say that she hasn't been socialised as female and therefore can't pretend to understand the female experience. Which was an excellent contrast to India screaming "I am a woman, not a special type of woman" Grin

Ereshkigal · 10/01/2018 18:36

I think it’s probably less to do with feeling emasculated and more to do with not feeling indebted and that they owe a man access to their bodies.

YY. I rolled my eyes at that too.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 18:39

How the hell can a woman feel emasculated anyway?

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 10/01/2018 18:47

I think he was thinking about the concept of something like being patronised/made to feel weak and pulled the word out but didn't stop to think that "emasculated" is not a gender neutral word but specifically applied to men.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/01/2018 19:00

So he misgendered all women! Shock Grin
