Grandpa’s Great Escape

Just watched this with the DC (6, 9) Did anyone else on here see this?
I thought it was wonderful! The cast were superb, Grandpa (Tom Courtney) was fabulous.

Very sweet story too. We weren’t familiar with it (only have the older David Walliams books) and loved the story. The “moment” in the air hangar shortly before the “great escape” had me shedding a few tears.

*pant not plant.... sorry...

We saw this too, only by chance and we thought it was lovely. I have not seen anything or read anything of his before, our dds are grown up but I will be looking at his books for presents for my niece and nephew in future.

The Book People often have David Walliams collections MrsMadEvans.

It was lovely wasn't it. Tom was brilliant as usual.

Just watched it with DD, shed a little tear. Very heartwarming.

I used to think David Walliams was a bit of a Roald Dahl rip off, but I've changed my mind. DD is 7 and has devoured Bad Dad and both World's Worst Children books this Christmas. She read Awful Auntie and Gangsta Granny in the autumn. To hear her laughing out loud at the stories and the gentle way adult themes are introduced has been really nice.
We've also watched and enjoyed all of the TV specials this Christmas. I particularly love Billionaire Boy.
David Walliams - you have really made my DD's childhood - thank you!

Think mine might be a bit young for it. But I did look at the blurb and think it looks good. Will bear all this in mind for the future.

We all loved it here too (DSs aged 11, 9 & 6). Also loved Ratburger too which was on over the holidays. All David Walliams books are brill & usually make me shed a tear (much to my DCs scorn Grin).

purpleme12 · 02/01/2018 19:26

Just bought one of his books for my little girl today due to all the hype I've heard about him!

Mrsmadevans · 02/01/2018 19:56

Thank you Bikerunski I will be checking the Book People out for them !

leccybill · 02/01/2018 20:48

I'd have liked to have watched Ratburger but we haven't got Sky Sad

Notmyideamovingon · 02/01/2018 20:57

Leccyblll I just paid for a months now tv passjust for ratburger figured cheaper than cinema

OutandIntoday · 02/01/2018 21:26

We watched Ratburger on Now tv tonight. Very different to the other David Walliams books adaptations. I found it a bit macabre - very Twits like - murdering people by making them into burgers! Definately an older audience- quiet dark for little ones . Much preferred Grandpas Great Escape!

leccybill · 02/01/2018 22:16

Ah okay, might wait a while before showing DD. She likes the funny and heartwarming ones like Mr Stink.
How much is a month's Now TV pass incidentally?

OutandIntoday · 02/01/2018 22:22

You can often get the box with a 3 month entertainment pass for £12.50-£15 in the supermarket. After that it is £6.99 a month i think. I use it to get Sky Atlantic and HBO shows.

Sobbed at the end of this. My DF died a couple of months ago. He was a child in the war but did his National Service in the RAF. He was suffering from dementia but was still talking about his memories of the RAF whilst the rest of his memories were fading.

There is an airbase near where he lived and in his last few days in hospital he would always smile when an aircraft flew over the hospital. I would like to think he is up there flying in his favourite aircraft.

We watched this yesterday. We were having a special sleep over at my parents as we all love David Walliams...my kids are 5, 8 and 10. It was all the more poignant as my beloved grandmother (95) passed away yesterday morning. We all loved it.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/01/2018 22:12

Just watched this with the DCs. Jennifer Saunder's reverend was inspired.

PinkHeart5914 · 05/01/2018 22:13
