Awwww, feel so sorry for Ben, used to really dislike his character, but now with nasty Stella on the scene, I feel really sad for him.

Made me cry watching it just

Good job its only a TV programme

I agree with all that has been said, it is not a storyline I am particularly comfortable with. I hope they end it soon.

not read the whole thread but i;ve not been wathI watched it last night and found it very uncomfortable viewing. Is it really necessary? Part of me was thinking maybe they want to highlight what can go on but it was unpleasant and I wonder what the boy who plays Ben makes of it all tbh

DelGirl · 20/04/2007 09:03

oops, sorry about typos!

I think that the number of apparently nice quiet and gentle middle aged spinsters becoming sinister step parents to lonely primary school children who have recently lost their own family is very low...just a hunch

I was going to start a thread on this. I agree with OP, I used to hate Ben's character too, but now really feel for him. I know it's only tv, but you can still feel affected by it. Ben looks like my youngest, and I actually cried after watching last night. If that were my baby... ugh, it's horrible.

I am gleefully waiting for when Phil finds out... they're bound to do it, aren't they? She'll be a dead woman.

I thought Kevin was talking a lot of sense about kids, and how they feel when they're growing up and their feelings and bodies are changing. It related a lot to what I've been experiencing with DD who's 11.

I hate Max, he's gross.

i have been watching this story line with pain as my mum did this sort of crap to me as a kid, you hear about sexual and physical abuse but this kind is the most deverstating of all... it took me a very long time to get over what she had done.

it is not just nasty step parents that do this as shown in eastenders but birth parents as well.

as for some comment that would they show that they were a nutter esle where , well my mum did not fooled social services for yrs if you spoke to her you would think that the sun shines out of her backside.

Whilst i get upset and angry when watching this storyline (good acting you have to admit) this episode was very good for prompting a conversation between myself and DS.
Because ds relates to ben due to being same age, and because he loves the Phil character, it made it very easy for me to explain to him about telling another grown-up (me) should anything remotely similar ever happen.
Ds seemed to grasp what i was saying quite well and I think a lot was do with the fact he likes Phil and knows Phil loves ben and under no circumstances would he not believe ben if only he would tell him.
I'm rambling but hope you get what I'm getting at.

MummyPenguin · 21/04/2007 12:22

Poor Ben, he and Phil were singing from entirely different hymn sheets last night, weren't they? I hope as an outcome of that conversation, Ben doesn't beleive that what's happening is normal. It will be intersting to see how this pans out.

She (Stella),will be found out very soon hopefully. It's a bizarre story line, and I'm not sure what is to be gained from them thinking it up,and showing it.Must be hard for a young boy actor to cope with it.Very odd,and yeah ,disturbing.Must end soon. For everyones sake!

Ooh thanks for this thread. I don't watch Eastenders, but I have turned on the telly a couple of times recently and this story line has been on and has drawn me in. I have found it really upsetting. I was going to start a thread to ask what was going on. How long has the storyline been going on for? I don't really want to watch Eastenders, but I would like to know when Stella gets her comeuppance.
