I love this show, and the DCs (6 and 9) do too. I know it started about food, but the social history is interesting too, and the asides of real news footage. I think the family are lovely too. It reminds me of “How We Used To Live” which we used to watch at school, but a bit more in detailed.

Who knew that there were 4,000 German bakers in London in the 1880s and that people (probably just men in reality) used to go "out for a German" rather like we go out for an Italian, before the war?

My DC are watching decade by decade on iPlayer. Not a bad way of spending half term! (We’ve done a lot of mountain biking and visiting family too, late yesterday pm and today are lazy days. )

I didn't know they had done another series, great news. I really liked the family last time, is it the same one?

Yes it's the same family Harpy and the same maid who, having been "liberated" by farm work, has to come back and work as a daily!

IS this a repeat? I love this prog, and I loved How We Used To Live. I think if I was clever enough(!) I’d be a social historian, but I didn’t get past the first yr of A level

Yes it’s a repeat, but the DC havn’t seen most of them. All episodes of all decades currently on iPlayer.

It's a repeat of the second series that aired originally at the start of this year. I discovered it last year when I chanced upon the repeat of the "Back in Time for Christmas" special they did. Then caught up with series 1 before series 2 started. Seeing as how they did the Christmas special about the decades of the original series, I think it would be only fair if they also do a Christmas special about the earlier decades. I want to see them doing Christmases of the late Victorian, Edwardian, WWI, twenties and thirties eras.

Ooh yes love that programme. My favourite was the Christmas one, where they all liked the 70s Christmas the most, because it was fun and had presents, but wasn't too commercialised. I agree the family is great, it would have been such a different programme if they were annoying!! Rochelle is v cool.

I wish they did more programmes like this. Loved Giles and Sue Perkins too, about food through the ages. Can Anyone recommend any others? Not necessarily about food but history - living as if in different times?

I heard that they were recruiting a working class family to do a series set in the 1800s. I love these programmes and will miss the Robshaws, but that also sounds like it will be interesting.

I also remember How We Used to Live. Bike Have your DCs been to the Kirkstall Abbey House musuem a few miles north of Leeds? They have Victorian era streets, shops etc and it's interesting showing primary DCs the tapestries that DCs their age made in that era and how several DCs used to share the same bed, many more people living in one small house etc.
