Last thread was maxed out.

Everyone disappeared...

Couldn't find ongoing 'live' comments, so all welcome here.
(Strictly no shenanigans on kitchen islands or dining tables, though).

Simon being back in situ would be full circle and showed that they deserved each other. He being a miserable weasel of the first order and she being a prize nutcase.

"Did anyone have any redeeming features?"

Yes. Smiley Waitress in awkward breakfast scene seemed pleasant.

Just watching the final episode now. I am struggling not to laugh at the most awkward breakfast scene with the overly jovial waitress with everyone so awkward. 😂

Niamhisnotarealname · 04/10/2017 19:23

oh dear lord poor Tom Sad

topcat2014 · 04/10/2017 19:27

I went to my Dr's today - surgery not a patch on Parminster..

misses point

Niamhisnotarealname · 04/10/2017 19:37

oh my god I don't care about the bad acting. that ending is my worst nightmare. Shock

ohmyblob · 04/10/2017 19:54

It's not all Hitchin. They filmed all over Herts. The restaurant she met the teacher in for dinner in the first episode was in Berkhampstead and some driving scenes with houses in the background were around St Albans.

It was still a bag of old shite though

happypoobum · 04/10/2017 20:01

I couldn't understand why Doc F went anywhere near Slimon when he was playing with the cars on the dual carriageway. Surely she would have run off with Tom, maybe called the police.

I felt it all unravelled from there and became increasingly unbelievable.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 04/10/2017 20:15

I know I'm going against the grain here but I actually enjoyed it (whispers)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/10/2017 20:26

Is there a fifth episode? I thought it had finished

RustyLeaf · 04/10/2017 20:53

playing with the cars on the dual carriageway

^Even as I was watching this I thought this is bananas and pushes any sense of reality into outer space. A normal person would call 999 and try to "talk him down" from a distance - not really get into a physical tussle on the edge of the road (forgetting her son).

So she was (a) psychic and/or intuitive and knew at that moment it was the only way to "save" him - anything else would be too late. (b) messiah complex - she was a doctor after all (c) a chance to save her husband when she couldn't save her parents on the road (e) so wrapped up in saving her husband never gave her son a second's thought - still her attachment to her ex or (d) just a complete fool.

Just perusing.

I suppose the series kept one guessing.

Possibly ^ giving the writers here more credit.

RustyLeaf · 04/10/2017 20:55

But it was a silly scene and the characters dipped in and out of credibility, which was a weakness.

When you watch eg. an old film noir with Barbara Stanwyck, though the plot may be far fetched you are in never any doubt that this is true and it is actually happening.

JustDanceAddict · 04/10/2017 21:01

The breakfast scene was so cringe.

Sittingonthefence83 · 04/10/2017 21:25

I was actually wishing that all 3 of them would jump in front of a lorry to end all their misery!

NotPennysBoat · 04/10/2017 21:36

I realise I’m in the minority, but I actually thought it was a perfect ending! Any other outcome would have meant that either Gemma or Simon ‘won’, and they were both vile!

Boswellox · 04/10/2017 21:46

The psychology behind damaged people becoming parents and some of them repeating patterns and damaging their children is a much more interesting and worthwhile subject for drama that, hopefully, a third series will concentrate on.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 04/10/2017 22:07

MsLumley,

As I watched Tom's more distressing scenes, I was thinking exactly about what you mentioned: because if it was upsetting enough for me, as someone lucky enough never to have experienced hard-core warring parents, then how the bloody Hell must it have affected viewers who really had been through that growing up (and teenage viewers dealing with it right now/ in very recent memory).
Sorry you did. Hope life's led in a far happier direction since.

"Maudlinmaud"

"Erm, a doctor Foster opera?
Has anyone else seen this mentioned?" Grin

Eh? That there's one being planned? I'd read a few articles alluding to Medea's plot loosely (supposedly) influencing Dr F., but hope to God that's all!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 04/10/2017 22:20

^ Maudlinmaud, sorry, don't know why your name came out with quote marks. Hmm

DH and I were most confused. "Mum, you're always at work.' No love, she's never at work. She's always nipping out of the surgery to get up to manic mischief, or shagging his teacher or getting blind drunk or snooping on his mate. But she's only seen one patient all series and he's the local hypochondriac so they obviously don't trust her with real patients.

liverbird10 · 04/10/2017 22:49

snorts loudly Hitchin is not even vaguely "grotty". Christ on a bike.

WindyOutThere · 04/10/2017 23:22

The town scenes are Hitchin but Gemma's house is in Croxley Green, and was the pub from the first series where they had the party. I only watched it to see the bits on location and thought the first series was quite good but this one has been disappointing really.

intimeandspace · 04/10/2017 23:24

Hello. zsuzsu and namechanfr78. I'm back :-). I posted the pics on the last thread of the actual houses. Very sad to see that the new neighbours opposite actually come off their drive and cross the road. What is the world coming to Shock

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 04/10/2017 23:39

intime,
Grin

You'll notice the glass recycling a little less overflowing, now that Anna's decamped to Edinburgh...

Wine Wine Wine

Perhaps if/when Tom reunites with her up there, he'll be treated to a never-ending supply of dog-shaped ginger biscuits made by Anna's new best friend. ( Liar reference)

Anyway, let's stop the sparring over Hitchin. No, it's not S'nalbans and it's def not Belsize, darlings, but it's okburbs, same as our now FAMOUS Croxley Green. I am now opening the booking window for guided tours of the film locations, with a Gemma themed visit to the pub. Jeroboam of white wine free if you can drink it all. Neil will be on hand to give his special "massage" and Simon/OldSteptoe/Corbyn will be signing copies of his latest misery memoir.
