The couples have been announced and rehearsals have started. So strap on your dancing shoes, it's time for Strictly 2017 πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ•ΊπŸΌ

I think Susan will crack me up each week! Long may she last

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 11/09/2017 20:52

Checking in. As an avid Radio 4 listener I'm pleased to see 2 contestants: Calman and the Rev, targeting my demographic this year. I'll enjoy Susan's run while it lasts - I think Richard might have more staying power.

The three identikit blonde females are causing me problems but will be easier to tell apart once they start dancing and Charlotte trips over her own feet.

Anyone else going to have a stab at Monkseal's prediction quiz? Definitely one for the really hard core fan.

Oh, and my dance experience runs to six months of ballet lessons age 7. It sorted out my pigeon toes but had no other lasting effect.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 11/09/2017 22:25

Found you! Thanks for the new thread cave πŸ‘ πŸ‘
I am/would be regarded as a total duffer. Two left size 8 feet, size 20, not that tall, not used to wearing heels, not very fit and with a bit of wobble and a weak pelvic floor.
But then the Fail would "exclusively" reveal Hmm I did country dancing in primary school (gay gordons) Wink and that I do line-dancing as a hobby (really really good fun). So clearly a ringer then! Grin
So impressed with you lot's credentials though. I love ice skating too and am Envy of those that can. Have watched Strictly, DWTS, SYTYCD for years now, it really helps get me through Winter. If I could learn any four dances, I'd choose tango, paso, viennese and salsa.

Erin and Nat might have become Anton and Brendan status but both left of their own accord. The fact that Karen is the longest standing female pro now is Shock. I miss Aliona and Kristina.
Favourite pro dances are the two partner-swapping ones...not sure what that says about me (rolling in the deep/our time is running out).

And all the winners have been top 4 week one except for Darren Gough and Chris Hollins. Monkseal would be proud of me! I am attempting his quiz but my predictions are always wrong and I am finding it really hard predicting the order of eliminations this year.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 12/09/2017 01:47

^Talking of which his recap is up for anyone who's not yet had the pleasure.

Kevin Clifton ia the bestthing about Stricley.
Watch him in a group best hes the beat by far

bonfireheart · 12/09/2017 07:48

Is Kevin living with Susan? Looks like he slept on the sofa here.

MoonriseKingdom · 12/09/2017 08:27

I think Kevin has always seems like your little brother's annoying mate. Absolutely no chance of finding him attractive. I like a bit of darkness and drama in a dance (e.g. Vincent and Flavia doing the AT) and never feel that from Kevin. I don't think he's got the fairytale charm that I imagine being waltzed around by Alijaz would have. I am sure he is technically very good but he just doesn't do it for me. I don't think him being married to Karen helps either.

That said I love Susan Calman and I am actually finding pictures like that rather endearing! Maybe I'll end up loving KFG this series!!

ChoccyJules · 12/09/2017 10:34

Dance non-crecentials:

I did a bit of Saturday morning Modern Jazz and Tap when I was about 11-14. I loved the Modern and hated the Tap, not because I disliked it but because I didn't seem to have the capacity to pick up the steps and routines quickly enough.
When Come Dancing was on, I would choose the winning couple based on my favourite dress. They never won.
My Uncle is a dance teacher who has judged with Len and knows the Cliftons senior. So he's far better qualified than me!

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2017 10:48

Blimey you lot 3 pages since the new thread started!!! Thank you for it Cavemum .

My dance experience is ballet based. I started at 9 at the Associate Royal Ballet school, that sounds better than the reality (saturday morning classes!!). BUT we did meet Margot Fonteyn, which really fired me up! Stopped a 13 when I discovered boys Grin.

Did a drama and modern dance course at technical college. Where we learned to do mixed 'partnering'

Took dance as my main subject at teacher training college.

Have always kept up modern aerobic type , tap etc.classes, taking them and attending them.

I dance every morning in the kitchen before breakfast now!! To keep fit. Came late to Strictly but loved the old Come Dancing! I wondered if they were going to do a military 2 step in memory of Brucie on Saturday!!!! Anyone else remember those long lines of dancers!! They were funny!!

WrenNatsworthy · 12/09/2017 12:09

Right. I'm joining in this year!
I did ballroom and Latin American dancing every Saturday for 10 years (age 6 - 16). My parents still dance and we love nothing better than to chew over Strictly on a Sunday.
I have lurked before but I've decided to commit this year. Grin

CaveMum · 12/09/2017 12:20

Nice to see some new names alongside the "old" ones Wink.

Come out lurkers, we can see you peaking round the corner!

WrenNatsworthy · 12/09/2017 12:28

Cavey, you know me from years ago, I was a BESH.

WrenNatsworthy · 12/09/2017 12:31

(With a different name.
They usually had variations of 'Boo').
I left as we gave up trying for our number 2, and I think BESH became only about people trying for their first after that. Anyway, on with the dance chat!

CaveMum · 12/09/2017 14:51

Aww Wren, nice to see another BESH knocking around, sadly the group does seem to have died off. Welcome aboard the Glitter Train!

GorgeousLady I think we're twins. Hail sister! Although as well as line dancing I've been known to do a more enthusiastic than elegant Strip the Willow at ceilidhs.

I hadn't realised Natalie was leaving Sad. I'll miss her, and I still miss Karen (Hardy), Erin and Lilia. I'm a bit meh about Anton, can take him or leave him, but I was very relieved to see Brendan back again. I've been watching since the first series, and I loved the clip of the judges looking so young at the start of things!

I loved Susan Calman and I think I might just get over my dislike of KFG because I want them to stay in long time. Pleased to see more than one larger lady amongst the celebs this year.

morningtoncrescent62 · 12/09/2017 15:15

Oh, and I meant to say, was anyone else rather confused at the start of Saturday's show? With the red carpet bit, I couldn't tell if it was a flashback or happening in real time, or what on earth was going on. I thought they might be going to do the whole show outside, and I was very relieved when they went into the studio.

ChoccyJules · 12/09/2017 17:15

Looking at some of the clebs' twitter feeds the whole thing was filmed on Thursday/Friday.

soupforbrains · 12/09/2017 17:51

Hello my favourite glitter buds!

I have some new graphs for you :)

Here is the usual one with the increase in twitter followers from announcement of celebs to now.

Strictly 2017 - Nearly Show-Time!
soupforbrains · 12/09/2017 17:55

And..... HERE is a new graph showing the growth over time of the twitter followers.

Point 1 is the final announcement of all Celebs

Point 2 is 30th Aug

Point 3 is 8th Sept (Friday just gone)

Point 4 is today

As you can see some people's followings have taken a sharp increase since the pairing show on Sat. (Susan in particular! but also Ruth has seen an upturn, as has Charlotte) AND Aston has finally gained some followers!

Fab-u-lous soup! Awesome pictorial representation. Clearly there's more than just us rooting for Susan Smile Loving your dedication to the strictly cause. It's a πŸ”Ÿ from sassy!

GColdtimer · 12/09/2017 18:55

Hello, I always lurk, sometimes post but find the thread moves so fast .

I love dancing, no formal training unless you count a few years of salsa on a Sunday night. Have watched strictly from the start and now love watching with my two dds ((11 and 7). They are rooting for Susan an Mollie respectively. (Dd2 loves Joe varney).

ppeatfruit · 13/09/2017 09:04

Yes thanks for that soup I agree with sassy's score! I'm not on twitter so it's handy to get the lowdown from more tecchie people!

MrsJamin · 13/09/2017 11:01

Loving the graphs @soupforbrains! It's the combination of glitter and nerdiness that I appreciate :) Will be interesting to see how this changes from the first show. I can't believe we have to wait so long!
Instagram Update
Mollie and AJ are looking good
Everyone is choosing their team names and making a lot of it! Team glitterblade = Oti and Johnnie, Beauty and the priest = richard and dianne...
Aston is fit, my word - him and Gemma seem the most physically in shape ready for all the dancing.

soupforbrains · 13/09/2017 17:22

MrsJ I don't have insta so thank YOU for the insta updates! Grin

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 13/09/2017 21:52

@TheRomanEmpire
Just seen this and thought of you. Artem looks very different with blonde hair. I think your wrestler lady looks stunning.
