Loved the way Pasha kept referring to "Cheesy"

MrsJamin · 24/09/2017 09:09

Cavemum this is what I was wondering last night about johnnie, about how he's going to be able to flex his foot to give the right shape for the dance?

RTKM · 24/09/2017 09:27

Thank you @CaveMum for explaining about the kicks and feet positions

I think they must allow for Jonnie to have different feet positions cos there is going to be a physical difference that he can't control with a dancing foot attached, IMHO he did brilliantly with it and I was amazed but he still won't have nerve control of it

The only thing IMHO could be them studying his practice sessions then comparing his feet movements with the ones on the night - so they can see what he is capable of physically compared to the dance/performance on Saturday night

That would need to be shown so that they don't get accused of being insensitive iyswim

CaveMum · 24/09/2017 09:46

I'd agree that they'll have to make allowances for Jonnie as obviously he can't use his foot in quite the same way.

OR maybe not - here's Amy Purdy's jaw dropping jive from DWTS (though admittedly as a woman dancing with a man she can rely on his physical support more than Johnny will be able to lean on Oti)

Shamelessly place marking.

Love these threads. Takes the edge of looming winter with all the glitter and brightness.

Loved the show last night. I'm really liking Shirley. and don't want anyone to go out next week

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 24/09/2017 10:14

Heather Mills OTOH danced the jive with a conventional prosthetic and just had to do without the foot pointing.

Yes I agree Maryz. Likewise Aston and the foxtrot, which is not Jeanette's speciality. By doing it now when standards are lower and there's cannon fodder at the bottom of the table (Rimmer, Conley) they can plan a run of dances that will suit the better for later in the run when competition is hotter.

I mentioned earlier on in the thread that I was going to Strictly last night. We had a brilliant time! I could go on and on (and happy to answer specific questions) but will try to keep it short.

We had great seats, in the section to the right of Craig and alongside the stairs leading up to Claudia's 'nest'. But the best seats are given to the friends and family of the celebrities so didn't have a really clear view of the dance floor. But there's so much going on, it's amazing. In between each dance, when the VTs are showing on TV, the production staff are running around. During the dances the camera men are non-stop - they must be shattered by the end.

OK, Eamon Holmes when he arrived was treated like royalty and had the best seat in the house. However very rudely he couldn't be bothered to clap and just sat there looking bored; he even left his chair for a bit and when he was there he kept looking at his watch. Really annoying man. As you can imagine the audience is constantly encouraged to clap, cheer, boo etc, and he was the only one not joining in.

Tess I was very impressed by having previously thought she was wooden. OK she and Claudia are reading from auto-cue and she had a production person with her all the time, but still, she is on the go all the time, moving around and it's really thanks to her it all hangs together. No idea how they coped in the last couple of series with Brucie!!

Tess and Claudia came on and did a bit of a warm up and practice before the show. Claudia was pretending to be drunk (it seemed to me) and complaining how uncomfortable her Spanx were!! I think she's funny enough without putting on this silly act.

The costumes were absolutely gorgeous. Having watched the Vicky Gill sections on IT2 I've always thought they were more style over substance but how wrong I was. Stand out dresses were Charlotte's and Alexandra Burke's but I thought they were all fab and looked so much nicer in real life. Tess's dress also gorgeous.

Gorka and Giovanni are incredibly good looking in real life, if that is even possible. Giovanni's face is just beautiful. Kevin was really focused on the audience (as was Karen) perhaps knowing that they are the people who vote for him. AJ, what can I say!!? He's tiny (about 5 3 I'd say) and literally looks about 12!!! Pasha, what a heartthrob, so solicitous towards Chizzy (who had to be supported by a production person when going up and down the stairs other than when on camera).

Where we were we had a great view of the judges. When we arrived we saw each of their seats had a cushion on it - Bruno's the biggest as he's quite short. I was impressed that the judges' comments are un-scripted, though they had their hand written notes of observations from when they watched in the dress rehearsal. SO I though Shirley did a great job. Incidentally, when she corrected Darcy, she continued to do so after the votes were cast - I could see her demonstrating but Darcy not amused!!!

A lot of people think Bruno must be on drugs or something but, in between the judging segments, he was very calm and quiet, as was Craig. Darcy harasses Craig a lot (not sure what he thinks of that) and seems quite needy: when the VTs are playing, she and Shirley had a production person giving them comments (I could see them telling Shirley to look up etc) and touching up the make up. Darcy also wanted her straps adjusting etc. I was also surprised to see her giving dance advice to Katya before the show when they pre-recorded a performance by a singer for next week.

Some of the celebrities (mainly the women) were very nervous. Simon Rimmer seemed to be having a great time. Debbie looks like a friendly person. Everyone seemed to like Katya. Aston I thought was a bit full of himself.

What else can I say? It was fab. Everyone incredibly professional and the whole thing very slick. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by that but it really was interesting to be part of it. If people get the chance, definitely go!

TheweewitchRoz · 24/09/2017 11:56

Thanks for the update yesbut - sounds fantastic! So jealous! How did you get tickets?

I really like Shirley Ballas so hope she continues to do well.

Summerswallow · 24/09/2017 11:59

yesbutnobut thank you so so much for this amazing insight to the Strictly production this week- I'm loving the inside goss. Sad to hear Eammon (?) is a dick, especially as he's got such great seats-you'd think the least he could do is be appreciative and join in with everything, his son is next to him as well. Interesting to hear Shirley/Darcy disagreeing on technique- perhaps that's inevitable though as Shirley is the expert.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 24/09/2017 12:00

Oh thank you so so much for that. Glad you had a ball.
I have heard lots who have been say that about Tess actually.
Who did you feel got the best reaction (natural spontaneous clapping) from the audience? On the TV it seemed to be Debs and Susan but I might be being biased as I loved their routines.
I am clearly thick though as I did not know the tambourine reference until I saw Fergie in Nine this morning.
Am amazed that Gio hadn't got that song previously for Musicals week.
Was the man with the hat Trev on view yesterday?
Darcey looked like she was sulking for the rest of the show with the Learned Friend putdown.

Fab update yesbut - friend of mine went last year and got a balcony seat so great view but didn't get quite as an intimate overview as you did. Glad you had a wonderful eve!

weewitch you register to go in a ballot for tickets through the BBC website but it's now closed for this year...

Thanks for that yesbut I shall read it out to my mum tonight, she will love that.

I thought Charlotte's and Alexandra's dresses were gorgeous, but I was very impressed with the lovely Debbie. Wow! She is a performer through and through. And so lithe for her age!

Elendon · 24/09/2017 12:14

One thing that annoys me about Debbie, and it's minor, but I do hope she puts her hair up and dresses it. I bet she doesn't though. Other than that, she's one of my favourites.

Go Debbie!

cowgirlsareforever · 24/09/2017 12:41

I was so sad to hear Debbie say that she worried Giovanni wouldn't want to be partnered with the 'ugly' one. She obviously has a low opinion of herself despite being a lovely looking lady

Ceto · 24/09/2017 12:52

I wish they wouldn't push the audience to react quite so much. It really irritates me when they keep giving standing ovations for dances that are really quite meh, and clapping along with the music should be banned.

Theromanempire · 24/09/2017 13:06

yes thanks for that insight, I find it fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes. I envisage it is like a very well oiled machine!

I am not a big Tess fan but do appreciate how hard she works - if she truly was crap, they wouldn't have kept her on this long so I always assumed she put the work in.

Poor Debbie...I think Giovanni actually looks thrilled with her and she certainly showed just what she's capable of last night Smile

Summerswallow · 24/09/2017 13:12

I'm also sorry Debbie would think that- what I liked about her dance was not that she was perfect, she wasn't, but that she committed to it 110% knowing it might be a bit hard to pull off (the red dress, the seductiveness) and that, plus her dance ability, turned it into something more than it actually was- it was very sweet, actually and shows she has nerves of steel. Go Debbie!
