YesThisIsMe - I've been on it too!

secondhoneymoon · 31/07/2017 22:47

'find the contestants unbearable most of the time, but that's why I love it. They're always so unashamedly competitive and pedantic, covering all bases with their full and lengthy answers. There's no need to mention the outfits...'

I like more teams than I dislike. I thought the Parishoners were lovely this week, nothing like as described above

YesThisIsMe · 31/07/2017 23:00

I like the fact that their pool of prospective competitors is so narrow that they can't shape it to any preconceived image of "what people on telly should be like". Much like University Challenge, the competitors are what they are, take them or leave them, and that's rather refreshing. You wouldn't want everyone on TV to be chosen like that - you want to achieve a full demographic mix in every dimension across a week's programming, but for that one hour of the week there's the chance for total serendipity in which people who you'd never pick from a lineup to make "good telly" unexpectedly make great telly.

I'm on fire tonight. If anybody wants to pit a Mumsnet team together I'm in Grin

I was hopeless!
But it is Friday night and I'm getting stuck into the Bacardi and cokes.

cowgirlsareforever · 04/08/2017 22:26

Sounds like a fun evening MontalbanoFan

Count me in Cowgirls I love OC & VCM. I didn't too badly considering I'd been on the gin on Friday evening (that might explain why I do better when it's on a Monday) Gin Grin

cowgirlsareforever · 05/08/2017 08:42
Grin Somebody should tweet V C-M to say that Mumsnetters are all too pissed on a Friday to play along!

VCM is fabulousness personified, but she can't deliver a punchline for toffee.

I love her style too, but I know she'd be annoyed about that.

My favourite team ever was the QI Elves because the blonde lady (Anne?) was the image of a lovely university friend of mine.

I'm good at the wall. Hate the music ones and never get them right.

BriennetheBeauty · 07/08/2017 12:36

scrabbler Anna - James from that team is an acquaintance of mine

The QI elves have a fantastic podcast called 'No Such Thing as a Fish' well a listen

cowgirlsareforever · 11/08/2017 20:41

Got the clergy question after Hugh Dennis. Woohoo!

"Didn't one mumsnetter solve this problem by watching it on iplayer during it's usual Monday evening slot?"

that was meeee! Grin

But I'm slipping hadn't realised it were back! Will catch up over weekend n watch tonight's on Monday (where it bloody should be!)

MontalbanoFan · 18/08/2017 21:05

Captain of the Escapologists had a face like a smacked arse when they lost!

Graphista · 19/08/2017 01:48

It was the homemade orange jumper caught me out, I'd just put me specs on Shock

mrwalkensir · 19/08/2017 23:36

ooh - our son's mate was on it the week before last - could out myself badly by saying he's quite normal...

Raahh · 24/08/2017 22:06

I am just catching up on all the episodes I've missed (out of order), and discovered that the Vicar from the local church (that I mainly go to to vote/puppy classesGrin) was on it Grin.

piratehooker · 03/04/2019 09:50

I think (hope!) this is the most recent OC thread. Just wondering if any other fans are around and about lately.

I was always a bit iffy about VCM, but watched the show as I love quizzes, and over the series have totally fallen for Victoria as a host. Pleased to admit I was very unfair and wrong about her.

I'm off sick today, with no voice I can't make myself heard to my patients, so am not of much use in general, so distracting myself with some OC episodes. I know it's a fiendish quiz at times, but somehow I find it less daunting than UC, which always leaves me feeling a right doughnut!

Off to see if the BBC site still has Connecting Walls on it, for me to play (and fail at miserably!)

youngestisapsycho · 03/04/2019 13:42

I love OC! Monday nights are great, followed by UC... I dont understand half the questions on UC, never mind the answers... but i do sometimes get a few right, before the contestants do as well Grin

youngestisapsycho · 03/04/2019 13:44

piratehooker · 03/04/2019 16:42

That's brilliant, thank you! I know where my evening is fast disappearing to now, with that link.

I think maybe with UC vs. OC, there's a bit more of a chance to work things out logically with OC, even if you're not sure of answers to begin with. Whereas UC it's a case of 'you know it or you don't' (and mostly I don't!)

Bouldghirl · 04/04/2019 00:13

I’m another fan. Something that stretches our brains a little is always worthwhile watching.
