Hi all

As the last thread has all but totally filled up, I've started this new one.

Bit shallow - but do you think the Wives are allowed cosmetics? I got the impression that make up is banned but they do all look very polished.

OP posts:
Moogletea · 30/07/2017 23:09

Wow what an episode. That ending was true to the book. Really interested to see where they take it in season 2

RebornSlippy · 30/07/2017 23:09

Out-fucking-standing! I'm in bits.

BonjourMinou · 30/07/2017 23:09

I'm so relieved they didn't kill Janine. And that they stuck to the same ending as the book

phlebasconsidered · 30/07/2017 23:10

Best use of Nina Simone ever. Loved them all striding back home after refusing to stone. It also ended true to the book, so any new series will be properly new.

The whole thing has been a triumph.

EvilTwins · 30/07/2017 23:10

How long til series 2??

SomethingOnce · 30/07/2017 23:10

Nice use of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' American Girl.

QueenieGoldstein · 30/07/2017 23:11

April 2018 for Hulu apparently so I reckon next summer for C4

Pigeonpost · 30/07/2017 23:11

Yikes, that was a tough watch. I love the cinematography, it really makes such difference with the predominantly grey tones contrasted with the red and a splash of wife green.

mizu · 30/07/2017 23:11

Best episode EVER!

InigoTaran · 30/07/2017 23:11

I think they must be part of the Resistance?

Moogletea · 30/07/2017 23:12

This has been the best adaptation of a book ever. I'm the biggest Margaret Atwood fan and I was so worried they wouldn't do it justice but wow. That was outstanding

SomethingOnce · 30/07/2017 23:12

A whole year! Aargh!

sweetkitty · 30/07/2017 23:13

On my goodness I need to calm down after that!

WellErrr · 30/07/2017 23:13

I heard there's going to be a second series?

userofthiswebsite · 30/07/2017 23:15

Yes the announcer said next year

viques · 30/07/2017 23:16

Oh fuck that for a game of ratings chase. I was just having a little whoop thinking thank goodness they were strong enough to leave it ambiguous when that smug little continuity woman announces season two.

No.no.no. They did some great stuff in this series, it was a gripping adaptation, the bits they added made sense, I really liked the way they padded out Serena and Fred, but then they go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like,
Erm, season two.

colouringinagain · 30/07/2017 23:17

I could really use a hug Sad

Batteredoldchesterfield · 30/07/2017 23:18

Travelledtheworld (sorry, can't seem to bold) in the 1991 film that's exactly what Offred does; whacks the 'abortion providing doctor' - actually a member of the resistance if I remember correctly - with a swift kick to the head, to knock him out and help him avoid being conscious whilst being torn apart. Gruesome but kind if it was going to end in brutal and painful death!

7Days · 30/07/2017 23:18

That one was gruelling. The thing with Hannah. The letters. The processing of a shattered refugee, still dehumanizing despite being as kind as possible. Refusal to participate in the stoning. Serena forcing June to do the test yet taking it from her to find out first.
Hannah was wearing pink. The children at the ambassadors reception were in yellow, Serena was knitting something yellow in the car.

MsJuniper · 30/07/2017 23:18

I can't stop crying after that. Kept it together (just) but it is so overwhelming.

One of the most affecting bits was the refugee centre where the male worker gave Moira the starter kit. So timely.

brokenshoes · 30/07/2017 23:19

What was the advert PPs referred to?

Outstanding episode. So glad they kept the ending true to the book. Can't wait for series two, but might re-read the book first, as that will be the last time I will read the book with my own thoughts as to what happened to June after she stepped into the van, rather than what the TV series tells us.

TheweewitchRoz · 30/07/2017 23:19

That was an amazing episode - them all refusing to stone Janine; the relief at the Ontario number plate; June knowing she wasn't alone; how the Canadian treated Moira with such decency & Moira's stunned reaction to that; Moira & Luke's hug; June's strength at the end. All stunning.

It's the first episode I've cried at & im in floods of tears!

Thanks for the thread - it has really helped me process each episode & my reaction to it.

I'm going to read the book now as I haven't read it yet.

bubblesquirrel · 30/07/2017 23:19

I wish they had stoned Aunt Lydia

Haha I was thinking the same. I also quite enjoyed watching Warren have his hand chopped off, what is this programme turning me into?!Shock

StrumpersPlunkett · 30/07/2017 23:20

Season two s going to be written by Margaret Atwood. She feels there is more back story to be explored

7Days · 30/07/2017 23:20

That wasn't Offred as far as I know, Battered it was the first Ofglen. It was her first inkling there was a resistence
