It was a surreal Eastern series. Anyone remember it?

You see rhubarb, I don't ^just* know about sex ed!

I use to love that programme! DH acts like I make it up when I've mentioned it before!

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 16:27

Oh so you are! Sorry I often don't look at poster names!

So is the way you teach sex ed to the kids influenced by your enjoyment of Monkey at all? Huh?

I've just downloaded the screen saver! I'm so sad!

DH used to have a copy of the theme song on vinyl. When we were (much) younger we used to get drunk and play it over and over again and sing along.

The poor neighbours...

There was a Sandy as well iirc?

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 19:19

Yes, he was the water dragon or summat.

I loved Monkey. Wasn't it on a Sunday morning?

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 19:21

monkey magic

it used to be on thursday night didn't it. i watched a repeat a few years ago and it did my head in

NappyChange · 23/03/2007 20:01

After Monkey, Harold Lloyd used to come on, with him hanging off the big clock hand.

margo1974 · 23/03/2007 20:02

I loved it too

HonorMatopoeia · 23/03/2007 20:02

Are they the ones that used to pull their fighting stick thingys out of their ears?! I loved that programme but thought that I was the only one who remembered it!

Bomper · 23/03/2007 23:21

I used to love this, but agree with trillium, when I saw it again recently, I thought, What a load of crap!!!

Rhubarb · 23/03/2007 23:21

Had to resurect this thread as they seem to be using "Monkey Magic" characters for the Olympics adverts.
Just wondered if anyone else had noticed?

TwoIfBySea · 01/08/2008 20:58

I did and began singing the theme tune and doing the action to summond the cloud.

Dts think I'm a complete daftie anyway.

The Jamie Hewlett (sp?) redesign looks great, perhaps a series would be a good idea so I don't have to explain it everytime to my two - who are the characters etc.

constancereader · 01/08/2008 21:02

I loved this

I also watched it quite recently and did not think it was crap at all! The funk is brilliant, and the nonpolitically correct translation is hilarious.

SciFiFan · 02/08/2008 15:51

I also watched it - and NappyChange I used to watch Harold Lloyd as well .

Didn't he end up peeing on some gods finger??
Monkey that is not Harold Lloyd!!

I had the book of legends.

Thought it was proper rude cos it had the word pissed in it. And my dad bought it for me

The series - well, it has chiefly remained in my memory for v bad dubbing

Tripitaka: (lots of mouth movements and frantic hand gestures, about 30secs worth)

Soundtrack : Hello

Heidi was another dubbing offender.

gingeme · 02/08/2008 16:42

It used to be on Channel 4 on a Friday evening. Our Friday night treat was to watch it while eating a chinese take away brill....

RuffleTheAnimal · 02/08/2008 16:43

ahhhh monkey magic. brilliantly surreal.

TwoIfBySea · 02/08/2008 22:14

More rolls for you Grandmother Slouchy?

southeastastra · 02/08/2008 22:19

monkey was on thursday nights before totp. and there was that weird grasshopper series

newshmoo · 03/08/2008 08:01

Monkey, Pigsy, fishy guy, tripitaca.me & DH both loved its freaky moral tone..watched again with 10yr old son and was a hit, was cheesy back then and still is but still fun stuff. Remember his fighting staff was a tiny stick he kept in his ear for safe keeping? Saw a never shown episode where monkey is battling tooth decay demons gets miniturized and goes forth on cloud into mouth! ah always the message, kinda like jerry springers last thoughts

SuperSillyus · 03/08/2008 08:35

hee hee, we loved it as kids, I've just sent a link to my sister to bring back sweet memories
