Oh yes, in EE land, anyone can move to South Africa, or anywhere really. No need for visas or any of that other nonsense, no need to sort out accommodation and jobs, you just pack a case and book a plane ticket for next week....

iknowimcoming · 30/06/2017 09:17

I'm wondering if Robbie's luxury apartment will turn out to be jack's/Leek and Whiney's tiny bedsit?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/06/2017 09:35

I have inside information from years ago that the reason some characters like Sonia, Ian, etc are still on EE and never killed off is simply the actors are model employees. Get on with everyone, on time, learn lines etc. Sonia will be the next DotGrin

MacarenaFerreiro · 30/06/2017 09:52

Can anyone explain why on earth Derek would need a DBS check to work in a corner shop??? Ridiculous.

JustAloneSeeingOnlyNothing · 30/06/2017 09:58

In case he had a history of thievery or fraud.

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 10:01

iknow, genius , i bet Robbie has gone to see Uncle Jack and struck a deal with him for the flat! jack must need the income by now, witless n leek have been gone for ages.
louis, i didnt know that, i am guessing that some people cant keep quiet and then discover that they are about to be killed off or written out for months at a time! whenever i've seen Ian being interviewed he seems the same character! its odd that he hasnt been in anything else - he is the Ken barlow of EE.

MacarenaFerreiro · 30/06/2017 10:02

no - that's totally different. Employers can ask retail workers if they have criminal convictions and they can be sacked if they lie. But Yolande was specifically banging on about DBS checks which is competely different and applies most to people working with children or vulnerable adults, or in a position of responsibility. Shirley and Mick would need a basic DBS check to be pub licensees for example, and Sonia would need an enhanced one as a nurse. Stacey wouldn't need any checks to be a hairdresser, Abby wouldn't need one to work in a vet etc etc etc. Just seems pretty poorly researched and a "clunky" way of showing how far gay rights legislation has moved on.

JustAloneSeeingOnlyNothing · 30/06/2017 10:13

Louis that makes sense, the ones who treat it like a real job stick around the longest, even if they can't act.

DameSquashalot · 30/06/2017 10:15

My favourite quote from Mock
"It's just standing about on a cou'le of old sticks" 😂🤣😂🤣😂

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 10:22

Why did Mock say that, what was he referring to?
I have worked in retail and ive never had a check, just references. However, i now work in a school ( non teaching lowly jobs) and had several checks made, i think its called something else now too and you can do it online. they have to be updated every 3 years and must cost the council a fortune doing everyone that works there as they have to pay for them to be done. i couldnt imagine the mini mart paying out for all that. Has Honey had one? did Denise? we need to know.

spiderslight · 30/06/2017 10:50

Sorry to lower the tone, but Mock said a sum of money was a 'pony' the other week. Yesterday he said he wasn't letting Muvver have a 'pony' on his freshly cleaned loo. Confused. Unless I heard him wrong.

Imagine attempting to use Mock's guide to rhyming slang in the actual EE!

iknowimcoming · 30/06/2017 11:01

I think pony really is a sum of money, but pony and trap - crap is presumably also a thing, I think I've heard that one too, lol!

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 11:03

Pony and trap = crap ( sorry )
blondes had a list a while back of what the cockneyl references were for money and how much etc. cant remember what a pony is or how much.

spiderslight · 30/06/2017 11:05

Ah, I see Grin. He didn't make that one up then!

mrswhiplington · 30/06/2017 11:05

It sounded like 'pony' to me as well. Can't think of any bodily functions that rhyme with 'pony'.

Kush said they couldn't buy Dot any chocolates until the Minute Mart re-opens. Do they not have any other shops at all in Walford?

Loved Shirley smacking Linda's face down on the banner and saying "I've wanted to do that for ages".Grin

mrswhiplington · 30/06/2017 11:09

Pony and trap. Of course. Being a bit thick this morning.

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 11:10

what was the stick reference about?
yes, linda is funny at times - her and Ev, a double act made for each other. how i miss that girl.
no other shops at all in Walford - its not on to go out anywhere else for goods apart from the mart!
market stalls usually have a sweetie / chocolate one, but not in Walford. its a wonder any of them eat anything.

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 11:41

i meant Shirley is funny - not linda. doh!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/06/2017 12:57

Oh poor old Hev. I forgot about her, poor Shirley is a bit of a jinx!

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 30/06/2017 13:31

80s he was talking about skiing.

Ah remember when I met Hev a few weeks ago. Good times.

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 14:38

oh yes, the Cloisters thing.
the other week they were looking down the sofa for some money, now its skiing holidays. lol
i wouldnt want to go anywhere associated with Charles and Di myself, they were hardly the happiest of couples were they? tragic mostly.
of course, coporal, you met the lovely Hev. lucky thing.
i;m glad she is still in show biz.

PolaDeVeboise · 30/06/2017 14:41

Wish Hev was still in it to see how she would have dealt with George Michael's death :(

JustAloneSeeingOnlyNothing · 30/06/2017 14:43

we need another prerecorded christmas tape when she says "If, in the future, George Michael were to die i think i'd act like...."

The80sweregreat · 30/06/2017 14:49

She would have been inconsolable of course and been sat in her room with her own boy George playing his songs.
Shirley would have told her to 'man up' i suppose!

iknowimcoming · 30/06/2017 16:16

Just been watching bits of hev and shirl on you tube Grin I'd forgotten she was married to minty!
