Did anyone watch last night? I was wondering why, when they do the summing up bit at the end, they don't always mention all the couples. Last night it was the gay pair, and I was really curious what happened with them.
Also, that chap who has been on before, who is so needy that he puts people off (although this week's date said she would go out with him, they haven't sorted out a date yet). Anyone else thinking he's so vulnerable, he shouldn't be on the programme.
Lastly, wasn't the rugby-playing guy lovely? A drug addict mother and lots of foster homes and he was a really nice person.

The gay couple were lovely. Very sad about the dad who killed himself. I hope they make a go of it.

The rugby guy was lovely but I didn't take to his date. She seemed very shallow, just wanted someone who looked fit! I thought she looked like Kylie back in the I should be so lucky days.

The man who was with the astronaut looked besotted with her.

Sidge · 15/06/2017 15:10

It was a strange episode - the gay couple were sweet and the rugby guy came across as a really nice bloke despite his tough life.

Astronaut lady was weird. I don't doubt her story that she's been terribly ill and had huge amounts of surgery but I find it hard to believe that someone who had been so ill or had massive abdominal surgery would be allowed to go into space. The G forces alone could make her really unwell.

Helicopter pilot yes; astronaut no.

Raspberriesaretheonlyfruit · 15/06/2017 16:33

I loved the gay couple and expected to really dislike them. I find the overly camp tedious usually but these two seemed very genuine, really open and honest.
I agree the overly needy man is a worry but they keep saying " someone for everyone" so I guess they have to put their money were their mouth is.
Journalist guy seemed nice but I bet helicopter woman would get bored of him. She's a very strong character whilst he's just got an interesting job.

Don't know why there was no update - but they didn't stay together (sourced off twitter)

Watching First Dates USA. Don't really like it. I think they are all being too aggressive!!

NormaSmuff · 15/06/2017 23:53

Crazy, watching first dates usa and, as is usual, they completely copy the uk version. The maitre door sp has a little goatie but I haven't established if he is French or not

TizzyDongue · 16/06/2017 08:23

Have you seen the Irish one? Matrie de is French too (might be law or something!) Though I had thought the USA one was Italian.

I really like the British and the Irish ones. Haven't seen Australian version so don't know. I think it works better where (stereotypically) the people from the country aren't confident or are a little bit shy and a tad awkward.

To be fair the bar man varies

NormaSmuff · 16/06/2017 08:32

Oh, I would be interested in the Australian one and the Irish too

JaneJeffer · 16/06/2017 09:32

I found the Australian one wasn't as good as UK and Irish ones. Some strange people on it including one guy who was really intense and way too touchy-feely, yuk! The decor in the restaurant looked really old-fashioned as well.

The Irish Maitre D is from Croatia. I love the big beardy Canadian barman!

HoopsMcCann · 16/06/2017 14:27

I am absolutely in love with Merlin.

TizzyDongue · 16/06/2017 15:55

He's Croatian!! Way to go me for not clocking that. Also like the barman on the Irish one.

JaneJeffer · 16/06/2017 16:39

The Irish Maitre D is from Croatia. Well not the Irish Maitre D, you know what I mean Grin

ImperialBlether · 16/06/2017 16:43

The Irish (or not) Maitre d' - did anyone see the episode a while back where a woman on a date there went back to ask him out?

bonfireheart · 16/06/2017 22:47

Merlin is great as are the rest of the staff. They show enough personality with coming across as wannabes.

bonfireheart · 16/06/2017 22:48

*without

TizzyDongue · 21/06/2017 22:50

Just looked at the restaurant menu. None of it appeals to me (and it's quite pricey) probably hufferly have steak

bonfireheart · 22/06/2017 00:09

I always look to see what they're eating and it's nearly always steak or fish and chips.

hollyisalovelyname · 22/06/2017 12:46

I thought the maitre d' on the Irish version was Italian😳
I like the fact they they are genuinely trying to match couples, it's not 'car crash' matching iykwim. Although there was one strange lady who was totally unsuited to the guy she was 'first dating'. It was on the Irish version in the first series.
The rugby player was lovely, I wasn't expecting his back story.
