New ITV adaptation of Mansfield Park tonight

ITV, 9-11pm, mre info here - I'll be watching, though it's the Jane Austen I know (and like) least.

Really no other Austen fans? Or are you all watching Jeremy Clarkson?

I fancy watching this too. Love jane Austin, although this also isn't my favourite.

Strange, isn't it - none of the characters are all that interesting, somehow. But Billie Piper's pretty good (wouldn't have said that a few years ago, but since the Canterbury Tales adaptation she did, and of course Doctor Who, she's gone up in my estimation).

"Mansfield Park" is also my least favourite Austen, more because Fanny is so insipid than with anything about the plot. Each time I re-read it, I find myself sympathising more and more with Henry Crawford.

I can't begin to imagine Billy Piper in the role (had always pictured Fanny as brunette for some reason) but it can't possibly be worse than the dreadful American version from a few years ago, so I shall watch with an open mind if I can!

The worst Austen in my opinion is Northanger Abbey. MP is OK, but why must it be on for 2 hours? I can't stay up that late!

I love Northanger Abbey - such a great piss take of all the gothic horror novels. I think this is the first in a whole series that ITV are doing.

Exactly - all in her head and what a silly head she has! I ony read it last year (it is the one JA I have never read before) and it took me months to finish it because I just could not see the point of it.

Much like me with Mansfield Park, tbh, DG. But I'm still going to watch it (though I may not make it to the end)

Oh yes, I would watch an adaptation of NA - it couldn't be worse than the book and, unlike Expat, I adore the costumes and the whole period so there would be plenty of other things to appreciate.

The costumes are cool! I agree.

Sorry, yes I meant to say the men. It is the costumes they wear that make them so attractive and I got the 2 concepts somewhat muddled.

Those men look like sissy boys in all those clothes. No wonder htey act like such tits, look at those clothes they had to wear!
