Anyone watching?

OP posts:

That's a good point. Poor Billie-Jo.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 12/06/2017 20:49

Never thought about that but it makes sense. The car used in the chillenden murders was like bellfields girlfriends car. Yet stone had no cars like it ever.

wickedgamestoplay · 12/06/2017 20:56

Just finished.

I agree I don't think it was him.

They were desperate for a conviction.

The car is the main factor. DNA showing 1 in 30 chance it could be bellfield but nothing on stone.

Mmmm frightening stuff

Poor Russell's.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 12/06/2017 21:17

Good point about the family. I feel sorry for them too. For Josie as a 9 year old who'd sustained brain damage to help create the e-fit, if they got the wrong guy that's awful for her. I truly don't think Stone did it and I'm glad someone started this thread.

airforsharon · 15/06/2017 14:29

IIRC from the programme the e-fit was created just by the woman who was driving behind him for a while, I don't think Josie had any input. I lived in Kent at the time and remember it vividly, and Stone's conviction has always been suspect.

Josie is doing incredibly well now, working as a textile artist in North Wales.

Loopytiles · 17/06/2017 11:52

1 in 30 chance the DNA was Bellfield's?

That, the artist's impression from a witness description and the car seems strong evidence to me. Massive tragedy / failure, as he went on to kill more women Sad

Am not usually a conspiracy theorist but do wonder if there was a cover up.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 17/06/2017 20:16

I think it was more the police got tunnel vision and became convinced of his guilt, so they did all they could to make sure it went down,

If you haven't already suggest you listen to the Undisclosed podcast season 2, a boy called Joey Watkins was convicted of murder but not only was there no evidence that he did it, there was evidence that he didn't do it. But the police were convinced he did it because he was a bad kid. The police got tunnel vision.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 18/06/2017 10:51

So what could be done about it now? I saw at the end the junior barrister and the qc were going to try to get the case looked at again but if the police were wrong this man has spent 20 years inside for something he didn't do! Yes he did have a bit of a violent history but he still didn't deserve that. Plus if it was Bellfield his other victims could've been saved.

notgivingin789 · 18/06/2017 20:55

Saw this on BBC2.

I'm convinced Stone didn't do it.

What I want to know is, did they ever show Josie to Michael Stone, to determine if it was him or not?

Celegans · 18/06/2017 21:11

I don't think it was a 1/30 chance the DNA was Belfields, there was 1/30 chance the match they made to the male DNA on the towels could be by coincidence when they compared his DNA.

So actually as I understood it there is 29/30 chance that the match was not a coincidence and it was Belfields DNA.

Snap8TheCat · 18/06/2017 21:11

It's not the police that convict them though. The jury was who found him guilty. Weird. I don't think he did it either.

Snap8TheCat · 18/06/2017 21:15

It's a certain DNA marker that 1/30 (so roughly 1,000,000 in U.K.) men carry. It was found at the scene and Bellfield is one of those 1/30 men that has it, Stone does not.

Celegans · 18/06/2017 21:19

I also read that in Josies statement she described the man who attacked her as a little taller than her dad.

Her dad is 6 ft

Stone is 5'7

Belfield is 6'1

Also the chubby e fit from the woman in the car, Belfield was chubby Stone not so much.

notgivingin789 · 19/06/2017 14:14

Did Josie even get to see Stone, face to face, to see if it is actually him ?
