Anyone else planning on watching this at 9pm on channel 4?

Who were the women giving birth with the wives in attendance? Were they other wives?

Looks like the wife who can't have children is pretending to give birth whilst the real labour is happening upstairs

Is that right? I've never read the book. It's on it's way though

In the book it also makes clear that they aren't allowed any pain relief during labour, as it's thought to be harmful for the baby.

Yes it's interesting. Very different visualising this to reading the book. Both good though. Just quite a different experience.

I dunno about the MRAs. Seems like only the high status men are "getting any" in Gilead, which would be a downer for all those sexually frustrated MRAs that resort to PUA techniques. I agree the subservience of the women would be jolly from their POV though.

I could barely watch the childbirth scene. It was heartbreaking, but even more heartbreaking to think that it happens all the time today...

brutally amazing. Angering actually. And makes me grateful for having my children at a time and in a place of freedom. It's fiction dangerously close to fact.

What did the replacement handmaid say at the very end about what had happened to Ofglen?

They said

"Has Ofglen moved post so..so soon"
"I am Ofglen"
