Honestly, it's a drama not a bloody post apocalyptic horror. These doctors are permanently in crises situations. Another plane crash?!

I thought Cali would return but I'm guessing she left for good .another favourite character of mine gone.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 09:46

Yes NotPenny - they only cast "lipstick lesbians" . You are right about the lack of gay males. They have lost the humour. I suppose their snarky and inconsistent behaviour was fine when they were young-ish interns but seems tedious and wrong now they are in their 40's.

thecoldnever - I really liked Callie too - but hated when they put her with Arizona - especially since she was not sure about her sexuality after her affair with the heart surgeon (who the producers sacked for allegedly being "too butch") and I loathed the custody storyline - no way Callie would drag her DD across the country for a year so she could be with her new woman.

What ever happened to all their ground breaking research? No one seems to bother now. I suppose an intern can just read a few journals and come up with a cunning plan.

Ariawyn · 09/05/2017 14:36

i've lived Greys for years, but even i'm struggling on this latest series

Ariawyn · 09/05/2017 14:36

**loved

rustyrivets1 · 09/05/2017 14:50

I think one of the problems I've found recently is that I don't like or care about any of the characters anymore.

No one just does surgery, it is always ott and first of its kind.

Meredith is annoying and shuffles everywhere, Maggie whingey and dull, Amelia is horrendous, don't know or care what her problem is but the fact that poor miserable depressed Owen is even more miserable and depressed is tiresome.

SO waiting for his dead sister to return to the series. And of course after much back and forth (i.e derick/Meredith/Addison) riggs will choose boring Meredith.

Mc Dreamies exit really pissed me off, it was a massive insult to fans of the show, who has watched them for years. 20 minutes and that was it, fast forward funeral and grief and all done.

They need new characters, or in fact the old likeable ones. It's just not working anymore.

Msqueen33 · 09/05/2017 14:52

I thought the way they did Derek leaving was beyond crap. The fans deserved more. The build up with the accident was okay but then she just switched him off. It was awful and don't get me started on dreadful Penny. I also miss Callie. I think it needs to finish before they run it into the group. The next set are interns are deadly dull.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 16:45

They need to introduce some new "nice" characters. Shonda Grimes said she wanted it to run and run - 20 years+ and become an American institution but I think her key people who used to write for it are running their own Shondaland shows now (How to get Away with murder, Scandal etc.).

Owen is so miserable and aggressive- basically they have transplanted Lucius Vorenus to 2017 (Owen's character in the series Rome). He gave up being the chief because he said he wanted to do something else but just demoted himself to where he started in trauma (bummer for Kepner). Poor Ben Warren who I loved as Michael in Sunset Beach (many years ago) being stuck with the appalling Bailey and now his doctoring skills being questioned - he was a consultant anaethestist before doing surgery - he would know more than the other residents.

TheCrowFromBelow · 09/05/2017 16:52

Arizona's leg. Worst continuity ever. It seems to be totally forgotten in some episodes when she wears high heels.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 17:19

Yes - it never gives her any aches or pain. Bailey's OCD has been forgotten too. And where are the Meredith's 3 kids? - at the 24 "daycare" at the hospital no doubt or in a room with the sitter. Surely she would need a live in nanny to manage their school runs etc. Where does everyone sleep at Mer's house? - do the kids live in the attic (like Lexi?) They are all women in their 30's and 40's and the top of their field's surely Amelia and Maggie could afford their own place. And how come the kids if they need daycare are never with Meredith when she Carpools?

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 09/05/2017 17:24

I used to love Greys - started watching it on maternity leave when I had my eldest (she's 10 now! 😱), but I have 2 episodes on the sky box to watch and I can't really be bothered with it now.
But I can recommend Chicago Med on Universal as an alternative, it's like Greys and ER were originally and I would rather watch that anytime now. I think my days of watching Greys are nearly over, if I had to choose between Greys and Chicago Med for space on the Sky Box, it'd be Chicago Med now.

DispatchReady · 09/05/2017 19:01

Yes I have said this many times - WHERE THE HELL ARE HER KIDS?! Always upstairs with the sitter! Everyone is really irritating – they have tried to replace Alex as Mer’s “person” but that is just not his character – he was always a loner and not a big sharer, just would not happen. What even happened between Owen and Amelia?? I just don’t get it. They seem to thrive on making big traumas out of things you would simply just talk about! Maggie is the most annoying character…so she had a crush on Riggs, making such a big deal of it, he never gave her any reason to think she liked him back – so get over it! I still like April and Jackson and wish they would just get back together – the episode featuring just those two was actually one of the better ones but again, nobody can have a normal happy relationship in GA! I am wondering why on earth I still watch! Cake might have to check out Chicago Med!

Figgygal · 09/05/2017 20:13

The actress who plays Amelia was pregnant so I'm guessing this storyline with her walking out on Owen, disappearing and then hiding under duvets on sofas was to cover her mat leave. It's been bloody heavy handed!!

I'm still 7 behind and really can't be arsed but can't give up either

horizontilting · 09/05/2017 20:17

Shonda wants it to run until it overtakes ER's record as longest-running medical drama, it is said.

Although I still love checking in with some of the characters I've known for ages on Greys, I don't think it deserves to beat ER's record. I think of the storyline with Mark Greene and how he left ER. Still haunting. And I can't imagine Greys ever producing anything like that.

horizontilting · 09/05/2017 20:22

Yes, I can't give up either. I'm hanging in waiting for Christina's return. One of the kids will reappear when it's time for them to have a medical emergency. Also did Eoin buy the dream house? Meredith should buy it back as he's not going to want it without Amelia, no doubt. And then she can leave all her lodgers in her mother's house and take the kids and go. I like some of the carpool scenes but she can't want all this drama at work, on the bloody commute and still at home. Plus kids.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 09/05/2017 20:26

Blimey, is this still running?

Last time I watched they still had Christina Hegl's character.

AvoidingCallenetics · 09/05/2017 20:33

Glad I saw this thread. Have been watching from the beginning again. Why didn't I realise just how manipulative both Derek and Burke are? Burke constantly tries to force Christina into being what he wants and his mother treats her shamefully. Derek constantly tells Meredith how unreliable and flaky she is, but everytime she trusts him, he bails (chooses Addison over her, runs off to the woods and sulks, tells her she will be a bad mum when she tampers with his clinical trial). He is emotionally abusive and I was glad when he went tbh.
All the attendings withdraw surgeries from their intern partners if they displease them, which is really manipulative.
I am currently watching the bit where Arizona lost her leg. How does she get to blame Callie? She is a surgeon, she knows there was no choice. Even Owen has annoyed me with all his sulking over Christina not wanting kids.

Anyway, watched last weeks episode today. It's awful. I miss Addison and Lexi and Mark and Callie.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 20:37

Owen didn't buy the Dreamhouse - he seemed to buy the trailer and the land it was on but Amelia wanted to live in a flat (I think). Why couldn't they just say Amelia needed to go visit her mom/other sisters/ do a world first operation in some other country than a rehash of the baby dilemma to cover her Maternity leave?

I always though Derek's sisters were going to feature more (he kept going on about his close family) but that storyline just never flew. They could have used the kids to promote life as a single mom type storylines - humorous and emergency. Arizona's kid is never seen now either.Perhaps Bailey's kid will turn up in a year or two as an intern. I miss Mc Steamy he brought a bit of life to things. Callie had a lot more chemistry with him than with the constant misery with Arizona.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 20:41

Avoiding I love the episode where Christina is preparing to get married to Burke and his mom takes her eyebrows!

Why bring back Leah Murphy this series and then not use her?

Dozer · 09/05/2017 20:41

Christina should come back and show them the light, and get back with Owen. Owen is getting v old to have DC anyway, and like the rest of them is a workaholic. He'd be far better off working and being with Christina.

Or they should've written a pregnancy in for Amelia.

The doctor Meredith shagged before riggs was miles nicer and sexier. Riggs is dull.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 20:42

8Dozer* I agree with everything you have said. That other Dr was way hotter and more sensitive than Riggs

Msqueen33 · 09/05/2017 20:46

Riggs is a bit dull. It's all a bit meh! Tho I prefer the older episodes.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 09/05/2017 21:39

I thought maybe the dentist Meredith met on the plane would show up as an intern or something and they'd become a thing....

TheSecondOfHerName · 19/05/2017 21:25

I actually quite enjoyed this week's episode...

Kinraddie · 20/05/2017 10:19

Yes, that was quite exciting!

ShesNoNormanPace · 20/05/2017 10:33

Which reminds me that now Meredith and Riggs are together we just have to wait for her to be happy and that along will come Owen's sister, who conveniently is a doctor
