Very upsetting start.

I remember this happening. I've also watched the documentaries.

Sometimes there are just no words.

Soubriquet · 25/04/2017 10:32

I'm just watching it now

First break and I've already cried

How heartbreaking

Makes me cross though, that Sean Mercer has made a statement that he now fears for his life because of this documentary

leccybill · 25/04/2017 11:02

Fuck him, I hope he gets battered almost to death every day of his sentence.

I am quite local to the tragedy and my Y5 and 6 pupils came in, having watched it and wanted to talk about it. They were really affected by it, particularly as gang and gun culture is so rife in their community.
I think it should be shown in schools to highlight the difference between decent hardworking families and scumbags.

Soubriquet · 25/04/2017 11:06

Just finished watching it

The scene at the football stadium had me in tears

Is it legal to bug a suspects house without their permission?

EnjoyYourVegetables · 25/04/2017 11:06

Birdsgottafly I agree with your post. I would uptick if I could.

kel1493 · 25/04/2017 12:43

I recorded it last night and watched it this morning. I also agree the acting was brilliant. How heartbreaking it must have been for the family and all who knew him personally. Very brace of his parents to do this. All responsible deserve to suffer. How could the parents of the youths act like that? Does anyone care that he fears for his life? After all he ended the life of an innocent young boy. He should be scared. He deserves anything he gets and more.

What would be the point of bugging if the suspects knew they were being bugged?

I watched this, too, and found it very moving. I worked in a similar area nearby, and knew Anthony Walker well in the two years before he was murdered.

In Little Boy Blue, does anyone know the name of the boy who kept the gun in the kennel? I was thinking there was no hope for that boy - if he refused to take the gun, they'd hurt him badly, if he told the police, they'd probably kill him. I felt very sorry for him.

DalaHorse · 25/04/2017 12:59

The part where Rhys's mum crawled on his bed and sobbed was absolutely heartbreaking Sad I have a boy not so far off Rhys's age and I can't begin to imagine his family's pain. So sad for them to have lost their lovely son.

ImperialBlether · 25/04/2017 13:01

Just found this, which answered my own question.

Crispbutty · 25/04/2017 13:01

I asked the question about bugging and it's legal providing there is a warrant and sufficient reason given to the cps/court regarding the suspects.

ImperialBlether · 25/04/2017 13:02

Wasn't the football coach supposed to be taking Rhys home? I couldn't understand that. Had he parked in the car park?

Crispbutty · 25/04/2017 13:04

Boy x has hopefully had a chance now to improve his life away from the temptations of his "mates". Brave boy with decent parents.

I also agree. He didn't want any part of it I don't think. I genuinely don't think he felt he had any choice.

ImperialBlether · 25/04/2017 13:11

He's in hiding now, poor boy.

ImperialBlether · 25/04/2017 13:12

They weren't his mates, though, were they? I got the impression he just lived locally, had no police record and was used by the others. They would have all known each other from school, too.

Soubriquet · 25/04/2017 13:28

You might have missed it but the coach said he offered but Rhys insisted he wanted to walk home

ImperialBlether · 25/04/2017 13:35

Oh okay, thanks. I must have missed that bit.

Soubriquet · 25/04/2017 14:42

I watch with subtitles so I tend to get things others miss

dottypotter · 25/04/2017 16:15

I wont watch as im against crime being used as entertainment. It happens too much now. We know what happened we don't need to be reminded. We know how hard it must have been for the parents to lose their son and we know that scumbags like Sean Mercer exist.

Tv is meant to be entertaining. There are more uplifting things to watch on TV.

If you haven't watched then it is unfair to judge. I also think it is good to be reminded as well. Kids who were too young to understand what happened will be old enough to watch this now and if just one kid realised that there is no glamour or status in being involved in drugs/guns/gangs then it has served a purpose.
