Just seen a trailer for a new TV adaptation of the brilliant Margaret Atwood novel. Stars Elizabeth Moss and Alexis Bledel amongst others and looks pretty good. It's due to be streamed on a US service called Hulu in a few weeks but can't find any info on whether it'll be available in UK e.g. on Netflix. I'd love to watch this as recently re-read the book. Anyone know anymore about the TV series or any ideas on how to find it?

I'm in the US temporarily so took advantage of Hulu's offer of 30days free. Fingers crossed the whole series is on before I leave and or have to pay!

First three episodes are intense. They've followed the book closely but also embellished it as well as I imagined it when reading it. Seriously chilling to watch, makes me want to become some kind of activist or something as it doesn't seem so far fetched that it could just happen now.

I'm in the UK - using Kodi via firestick.

I was going to watch episodes 2&3 last night but I just didn't feel like I could cope with it all in one day. It's powerful stuff. I read it first as a teenager and have reread several times since, but it seems so much worse now I'm a mother (to the son of a divorcee too - I'd be perfect Handmaid fodder).

Yes the drip drip drip of gradually increasing restrictions felt very real. I think the Us is far closer than the uk. Lots of things in this are very real for people living in theocratic dictatorships in the world at present. Parallels with the fate of girls taken by Boko Haram and the Yazidi women.

I seem to remember Margaret bAtwood refused to call it science fiction and insisted it was speculative fiction instead because everything she put in the book had happened already to women at some point, somewhere in history. or still is ...

R00tat00tt00t · 27/04/2017 10:06

Very envious of those of you getting to watch this already, it sounds as good as I'd hoped. Need to look into fire-stick thing as don't want to miss it and really want to watch with DH as discussed book with him but don't think he'll read it himself.

I've watched the first 3 episodes - Margaret Attwood is actually in the first one very briefly at the red centre.
I found it brilliant and terrifying, they've done a great job of fleshing the story of the characters out.

Missanneshirley · 28/04/2017 06:52

Ooh i think we maybe have a fire stick! (Clueless, have to ask DH, so disappointing Grin)
Seriously I'm glad it's shaping up well

GavelRavel · 28/04/2017 12:58

Just watched episode.2 and 3, a slow build but still very powerful. Glad they seem to be doing it justice.

Redredredrose · 29/04/2017 15:29

I watched all three today. I'm almost speechless. The end of episode three! It's terrifying. There so much I can reap with our world - I must admit, I'm slightly relieved not to live in the US as I think it's a lot closer to the bone over there than it is here in the U.K.

Redredredrose · 29/04/2017 15:30

Ffs. Autocorrect just made nonsense of my post. I meant to say that there's so much overlap with our world.

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 29/04/2017 15:30

Probably find it if you have Kodi.

ringringringringringring · 29/04/2017 21:39

I have a smart box but if you don't mind watching it on a computer screen, google is your friend. It's completely excellent. I just wish that episodes were dropped daily. It's painful to get 3 at once and then have to wait a week at a time for the rest! I'm so immersed in the world that I watched the 90s film version today. Yes it's crap but teen me had a bit of a crush on Aidan Quinn, so it has it's merits.

bellabelly · 29/04/2017 22:18

I've got a firestick but can't work out how to get Kodi? I searched on Handmaid's Tale but it just brings up the old movie.

Redredredrose · 30/04/2017 06:10

Try searching Elisabeth Moss on People Search.

CandyCorn · 01/05/2017 11:50

Watched the first episode (techie DH downloaded it somehow) with DH. We were both speechless. I felt extremely uncomfortable watching but couldn't tear my eyes away. I love Moss. She was my favourite thing about Mad Men and is incredible in this.

Rory Gilmore!

Redredredrose · 01/05/2017 14:52

Rory only gets better.

coldcanary · 03/05/2017 18:26

It's been picked up for series 2. I follow Elisabeth Moss and the official HT account on Instagram & she's just announced it.

TheHiphopopotamus · 03/05/2017 18:59

I must admit, I'm slightly relieved not to live in the US as I think it's a lot closer to the bone over there than it is here in the U.K.

Or Saudi Arabia, perhaps, where shit like this is actually happening as we speak.

I have a few questions about some aspects of it, but not sure if they're too spoilery or whether they'll be answered later on.

19lottie82 · 04/05/2017 16:15

bella just google how to install Kodi on to a firestick it's pretty easy, then how to install Phoenix add on.

SprogletsMum · 04/05/2017 16:25

I've watched the first 4 on kodi. It's brilliant. I loved the book and this is just as good.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 07/05/2017 20:53

Just watched the first episode. Only recently read the book the story is very fresh in my mind.

Great book and great first episode. Chilling.

Redredredrose · 08/05/2017 09:34

Just watched episode four. Really wishing I'd waited til episode ten was screened, so I could have binge watched the whole series. It's so good and also so upsetting, especially when she's remembering her past life.

Redredredrose · 08/05/2017 09:35

Even where they've changed things from the book, it's well done.

WingMirrorSpider · 17/05/2017 13:38

According to the radio times this will be shown soon on channel 4. I'm really looking forward to it.

edengarden123 · 21/05/2017 21:56

OMG isn't the tv series fecking brilliant! Just watched episode 5. It's probably one of the best shows I've watched!
