Box set recommendations - 30 minutes long?

I hardly ever get to watch more than 30 minutes of TV a night - usually it's so late I fall asleep if I try to watch anything longer. But all the great TV people always recommend seems to be 45mins - 1 hour per episode. Obviously I can and do watch half a longer programme, but I usually have to search through to work out where I got to before I fell asleep. V frustrating. So any recommendations for perfect, bite sized TV? I have Amazon Prime, I Player and Netflix, ITV and C4 on demand etc.

Comedy, drama, documentaries all good - I've got pretty wide ranging tastes but don't like anything super violent, or where I can't hear the dialogue (I'm looking at you, The Wire)

No I know exactly what you mean Grin I wish there were more 30 minute shows too. DH gets home late and we just want something quick to watch then go to bed, but we tend to prefer drama to comedy so... We do watch the Big Bang Theory but it's gone a bit annoying.

Transparent on Amazon prime, characters are unlikable but it is amazing, addictive & very different

I watched the first episode of Life In Pieces last night, and really enjoyed it. So much I nearly watched a second one, but that would miss the point, wouldn't it? Thanks for the recommendation.

I was coming on to recommend Life in Pieces and now find from here that they haven't renewed it...... terrible start to the day!

squashyhat · 10/03/2017 08:15

Nurse Jackie

dotty2 · 10/03/2017 09:18

Oh no - I'd forgotten the bit about Life in Pieces not being renewed when I was getting all enthused about it last night! Like meeting a lovely neighbour and discovering they're just about to move ...

I did see one episode Nurse Jackie when it was on C4 I (?) and didn't really get it. It seemed to kind of float between genres and I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but I will give it another try with a more open mind.

Catastrophe is on all4 I'm almost caught up having just started watching a few days ago.

Fresh prince now on Netflix - the fashions alone are hilarious!

Still game on Netflix - brilliant!

That 70's show, only fools & horses, Gavin & Stacey, red dwarf, blackadder, outnumbered, episodes are all on Netflix now.

HighBrows · 10/03/2017 09:49

Schmitt$ Creek on Netflix is great. Really funny and each episode is about 21 minutes. Same with Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Arrested Development.

Also, Love on Netflix is excellent as is Flaked.

AlannaOfTrebond · 10/03/2017 09:53

Bluestone 42. Another comedy recommendation, but totally brilliant.

Friends with Better Lives is funny too. I really liked Community but it's gone from Netflix and I hadn't finished it, I hate when that happens. Confused

PurpleAlerts · 10/03/2017 10:32

Love Catastrophe!
New Girl
How I met your mother
Detectorists
Brooklyn 99
Big Bang Theory
Curb Your Enthusiasm
America Office

Also recommend Nurse Jackie, it's fantastic. Funny, moving and gripping.

yetanotherdeskmove · 10/03/2017 12:32

It's not new, but Parks and Recreation is brilliant.

FranKatzenjammer · 10/03/2017 12:39

Spaced and Peep Show- both all All4.

dotty2 · 10/03/2017 15:56

Thanks, everyone - so much good stuff to try!

DH is currently hooked on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, on Netflix, comedy in 30 minute chunks I believe. :)
