Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2017 17:05

Last weeks fsmily much more fun

Graphista · 19/03/2017 06:21

Just watched first episode

Glasgow is a city I know I used to live there. I'd love to live there again.

For starters it looks to me like they live in a 'naice' area, I'm guessing somewhere like west end, bearsden, Newton mearns.

But then to find a house big enough for a family of 8 with 4 teens and they've a front and back garden - they're on good money!

Re the weather -

Laundry - the weather is often wet and windy (As in windy enough to blow the laundry off the line!) and rarely fine for a decent period of time and so unpredictable to the point many flat blocks have indoor drying areas provided as standard.

The brolly test was good for Glasgow weather but lots of weegies get good winter coats with tight fitting hoods.

Wellies are essential and worn possibly a lot more than in rest of uk. Certainly most of the year round. When I first moved there dd and I had hoodless jackets and I got us cheap wellies, I soon learnt (that first Autumn!) that a long hooded coat each and decent but not extravagant wellies were important!

Non bio - not all of us can use bio, dd and I allergic.

"If they bought that fairly big house in Scotland about 20 years ago their mortgage is probably not that high" well not London prices but still not cheap, as an eg there's a very similar house to theirs in Bearsden just now on sale for £1,150,000.

Agree they didn't address possibly selling on stuff, they could certainly sell on the tech. Also if your phone is still working you don't need to upgrade.

'Why do these programmes never help low income families?' Because we already know how to budget we have to!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/03/2017 15:08

THIs weeks was good

Used and listened to many savings

Wow at £11 on nappies

Totally agree with loo roll. Cheap is not nice !!!

Graphista · 25/03/2017 02:13

Just watching now. Shocking beginning, no not 'everyone' spends on credit Shock

Absolutely crazy they've got £5000 credit card debt when they've £1000 in savings and £4800 tied up in his hobby!

Also what wasn't addressed was their (the couples) attitude that

The savings are 'his'
The expensive hobby is allowed as 'his' because the cc debt 'isn't his' even though a lot of the spending was on their kids!!

Mums taken a career break to be a sahm, they're a long term couple, 3 children yet the money is seen as completely separate. Bizarre.

Graphista · 17/05/2017 21:23

Anyone watch episode 5 tonight?

ArseholesOnToast · 18/05/2017 00:38

I watched it.

Fancy spending all that money on jeans and they couldn't afford a tin of satin gloss for their door Frames!

dalek · 18/05/2017 00:43

I watched it. The two presenters - especially Alex - are so bloody patronising and they demonstrate that they have no idea why people buy nice things - yes if things are tight you can make do with something cheaper but some quality things are are just that - quality.

I think the couple did really well to not tell them to bog off.

Will not be watching again.

JaneJeffer · 18/05/2017 09:56

Saw some of this last night. I don't blame the couple for preferring the nice light switches and sockets. They looked so much better. It's their forever home so why not have the things you like. They could do without all the aftershaves, jeans, etc. though to save a bit of money.

They were such a lovely, good-looking couple. Their kids were gorgeous too. I loved their house. Don't know how they keep it so pristine with two small children.

All I learned from the programme was lifestyle envy EnvyGrin

Missingthesea · 18/05/2017 16:17

The point was that because they bought all the nice things they wanted, they went 30K over budget and they house is still not nearly finished.

dataandspot · 24/05/2017 20:36

Is nobody watching tonight?

Chesterfuckingdraws · 24/05/2017 20:48

I'm watching. I love it when they're so sure it's the same product but it turns out it's much cheaper.
The lady on tonight's episode is really annoying me although I'm not sure why!

dataandspot · 24/05/2017 20:51

I missed the start. What do they do for a living to afford all this stuff?

Chesterfuckingdraws · 24/05/2017 20:51

I missed the start too so I'm not sure. But their spending is crazy

dataandspot · 24/05/2017 20:57

It's mind blowing to me as I live completely the opposite way that they do!

dataandspot · 24/05/2017 21:01

I just rewound it after it finished.

He's a cctv fitter and she was a part time TA!

wobblywonderwoman · 24/05/2017 21:12

Lovely family tonight. Really hope she taps into the photography end of things. 3 parcels a day though!!! Crazy crazy.

I get the need for good curtains and think it is worth it. But changing every appliance to purple.. Not a sensible way to live. Keep them in the cupboards and take out as you need if they annoy you on the counter (over invested me) Grin

dataandspot · 24/05/2017 22:33

Or have silver/ aluminium ones which go with any colour scheme?
