Bloody hell - £50 toddler wellies.

I thought I was being ridiculously extravagent spending £60 on Aigle wellies for my adult sized feet, even though I justified them by thinking of them as knee boots that I could wear in the mud without ruining them.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2017 08:48

Didn't see the programme but will watch it on catch up - I can't believe people like that actually exist - they are like a parody, they are so extreme.

Were they handing down or selling on any of these expensive items? I suppose if the £50 wellies are worn by all their DCs (don't know the ages) and then sold on ebay as branded items can do very well, it might have been OK, but I expect not, or else they wouldn't have been on the show.

YouMeddlingKids · 24/02/2017 08:51

What channel? Can't find it on catch up!

RealHouswifeofBury · 24/02/2017 09:00

Bbc1

LightastheBreeze · 24/02/2017 09:05

They are on BBC breakfast now

Heatherbell1978 · 24/02/2017 09:09

Just realised the programme is actually Shop Well for Less. Apologies for getting the thread title wrong if anyone is trying to find on catch up! The family were just on Breakfast on BBC1. Genuinely seem like a lovely family. Boys are very polite. But I'm still fascinated at how much they spend on stuff. DH and I are reasonably well off and can afford branded things but I'd feel so guilty spending that much. My 2 yr old DS has 3 pairs of shoes (including his wellies) and I was wondering the other day if I was being extravagant by buying him another pair of Next trainers (which we can easily afford). But I guess DH and I go on holiday a few times a year so every one has different priorities.

She did say the 2 older boys worked so I think they buy some of their own stuff

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2017 09:13

Was it a 'we don't understand how we can't afford holidays despite earning well' thing?

Don't spend £50 on wellies for toddlers and £3k a year on phone contracts, job done.

People need to go on national TV to work this out?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 24/02/2017 10:02

3k a year on phone contracts! Shock How?

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 24/02/2017 10:05

I wonder if there's an element of showing off to this? I would be embarrassed to admit spending like that on tv. They seemed a nice family though. I haven't seen the show, just the clips on breakfast telly.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2017 10:13

Lois I didn't see the programme but they had 6 DCs and I'm assuming the older DCs and the parents all had up to date, expensive phones, which can easily be £40-60 pm

£40 x 12 x 6 = £2880.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 24/02/2017 12:21

Good grief!Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2017 16:20

On planner. Must watch.

MongerTruffle · 24/02/2017 18:29

There was another BBC series called Live Well for Less. I don't know if you've watched it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2017 18:56

There's eat well for less

SuperFlyHigh · 24/02/2017 18:58

I thought I was awful for spending 10-15 minutes in the shower (long shower of course), what on earth do you do in 45 minutes??!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2017 06:37

I've seen now and omg. How many pairs of shoes. ESP for toddlers who grow out of them

£50 for wellies is insane for adult and child

Shocked at the washing trial. None got the stains out. Tho think they washed them on short low temp cycle ....,,,,

Seemed a lovely family but course they can save money if they want to as spend stupid amounts to begin with

Just like all the eat well for less programs. If spending 150/200
A week on food can easily cut down

Hope e2 will be more realistic of an average family

TiltedNewt · 25/02/2017 09:13

This program lost me when they got mums to test washing powder. I mean, yeah, cor blimey they spent a lot now don't (I assume, never made it to the end) and all but do men not wash clothes?

Xmasbaby11 · 25/02/2017 11:41

I could not believe the show expenditure especially for young dc. My 3 yo has 3 pairs of shoes max at any one time and they won't last longer than a few months!

They seemed like a lovely family though and the mum had beautiful skin. She should stick with the clarins!

CiderwithBuda · 25/02/2017 11:55

I couldn't believe th temperature she kept the house at - I think the husband said 30 degrees!

I also didn't get the whole kettle testing thing. Surely you only buy a kettle when you need a new one? It's not a regular expenditure.

Cagliostro · 25/02/2017 11:59

I watched the show with this face Shock

The amount of shoes was quite sickening TBH especially for the little girls who would be growing out of them so quickly

alwaysfancywine · 25/02/2017 20:11

I watched this programme and was really interested in the test results at the end. The only one I can remember was the battery test where Aldi's came out best. Can anyone remember which other products won over expensive brands?

RealHouswifeofBury · 25/02/2017 20:16

Tesco own washing stuff won

outnumbered38 · 27/02/2017 15:30

Just watching this on catch up. The batteries were Lidl aerocell.
