Does anyone remember a programme where they put a family into a stately home, and the other participants were the servants? I seem to remember there being several episodes.

I loved that, because, whilst I find the lifestyle of the landed gentry interesting, what I find most fascinating is life below stairs (it's one of the reasons I really enjoyed Downton - because you got to see the kitchens, servants hall etc).

@theoracleofdelphi - I love Sue too - she is on my celebrity dinner party list, right at the top!

Lilyloo456 · 19/02/2017 13:30

Supersizers is on sky at the moment good food channel. I've been watching them. I love Giles and sue!

Davros · 19/02/2017 18:28

I love Rochelle, that is a stunning photo of her. I also love all other Robshaws, Super Sizers, Sue and Giles, Edwardian Country House. I'm just full of love! Flowers

theoracleofdelphi · 19/02/2017 21:21

Sue is current girl crush followed by Giles' sister Wink

Trills · 19/02/2017 21:34

Victoria was on The Last Leg on Friday - you can find it on Channel 4 catchup.

She did a MARVELLOUS pun.

JaneJeffer · 19/02/2017 22:57

Thanks Lilyloo I'll enjoy re-watching those. Love Giles and Sue together or indeed separately!

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 06:47

Just seen the latest one where they were wine testing, an actual wine from 1933 !
however it seems the youngest daughter isnt actually 18 yet but had to stand with them while they tested the wine. Grin

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 07:08

i think perhaps the family are all together now because of viewing figures, perhaps they read mumsnet threads and other comments and decided to put the whole family in rather than concentrating so much on Rochelle in the kitchen.

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2017 10:17

Lilyloo I like Supersizers too. i couldn't do what Sue does in it though (apart from the bits with Giles) Grin

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2017 10:19

Oh and the dressing up, and dancing/keep fit bits I'd LOVE that Grin

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 12:43

yes, you see the girls were doing keep fit while debbie was scrubbing the floor Grin

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 12:59

JaneJeffer · 20/02/2017 13:05

Well I stayed up past my bedtime last night watching Supersizers. Giles looked great in the Regency gear Wink

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 13:21

no not supersize me, but supersizers with Sue and Giles.

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2017 13:24

Yes Norma with that jolly lady archeologist Ruth Goodman ? Is that her surname ? Did you see the Baking one just last autumn?

NormaSmuff · 20/02/2017 18:11

oh no, I missed a baking one Sad

CremeEggThief · 21/02/2017 20:30

I'm a bit disappointed they haven't sent the girls to do anything for the war effort, in tonight's episode. Surely middle-class girls of their age would have been expected to do something? They help out a little bit in the kitchen, but so far, that's all they seem to do.

fourquenelles · 21/02/2017 20:35

I am sure they would have been involved in the voluntary organisations like Debbie.

I can remember pig swill bins in my primary school playground back in the very early 1960's but maybe that was because we had a pig farm close by and not as a throwback to the war!

CremeEggThief · 21/02/2017 20:49

There's just such a contrast between them and Debbie.

darksideofthemooncup · 21/02/2017 21:20

Fourquenelles we had pig swill bins in our school (mid 70s) nowhere near a farm so I wonder if it continued well after the war

DesolateWaist · 21/02/2017 21:33

We had pig swill bins in my school in the 80s, but then we were out in the countryside with a pig farm up the road.

I loved Fred's face when he realised the was off out into the country with Debbie!!

Oreocrumbs · 21/02/2017 21:45

My dad had a pub, in a town and they collected pig swill for something/somewhere. I was fascinated by the pig swill and this would have been 88-92 ish!

eddiemairswife · 21/02/2017 22:15

I'm not sure how old the girls are, but I think at 18 they would have to do war work unless they were at school or university.

eddiemairswife · 21/02/2017 22:19

Just checked. Single women of 20+ were called up from 1941. Princess Elizabeth did her bit though she wasn't 20 until 1946.
