The duff duffs aren't right at all. I get that they're going for a more character driven, realistic vibe and I like it but the duff duffs have always been for cliff hangers and stand out moments. Tonight's could've been the moment they showed Dot's shocked/sad face after being told she wouldn't be in the launderette anymore. It wasn't a huge dramatic thing but it was appropriate for an end of episode scene imo. I don't know, it's just a bit odd. Will take some getting used to.

Poor Dot. Never thought I'd well up over someone locking up a launderette. Sad

Really liked the guys chatting on the sofa and the kids charging down the street with it. Stuff like that is a welcome change.

EnidButton · 01/10/2016 01:24

^ (re duff duffs) I suppose it now means we won't know when a huge thing is about to happen. Could be good.

The80sweregreat · 01/10/2016 08:32

Steven looks like Russell kane the comedian! He is so dodgy, I think he did have his eye on the money to steal it.
Jack has lost weight.
What was with the sitting around outside on an old sofa with beers all about? I think its all just fillers this week, although I do feel for Dot.

celeste83 · 01/10/2016 09:25

I quite enjoyed the sofa scene. I thought Kyle was actually quite funny in last nights episode too. He could be a decent character if they made more of an effort with him. So Dot just gets sacked with no notice of leave? Hmm I think that will be the last we'll see of the laundrette as we know it too.

The80sweregreat · 01/10/2016 09:36

the launderette could do with a bit of an over haul ' my beautiful launderette' style, but keep Dot on. That photo of her with Pauline was so funny - I feel old as I remember her like that from the late 80s.
brilliant actress though, a true EE legend along with Pat Butcher, I miss her in it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2016 09:38

Tho surely dot would get a huge redundancy

Lily and Rebecca sharing

what was with the sofa? Why would he pay £15 kids to move it. It's obvious they are just going to dump it in playground or similar! but guess nod to eastend have kids playing in the street.

Was thinking last night- everyone spends their lives in 3-6 different houses on the square. You could spent weeks trying to do a diagram of that!

celeste83 · 01/10/2016 10:30

Where the hell did the kids take the sofa to? Its SE London bearing in mind.

nancy75 · 01/10/2016 14:47

It's not SE london! the East End is north of the river.

Wouldn't they have to give Dot redundancy pay after 40 odd years?

celeste83 · 01/10/2016 14:56

Ooops got my geography wrong Blush

Dot technically should get 40 weeks redundancy pay. Whats the annual salary for someone who works in a laundrette in East London? Smile And does she own her home? What is Dot's financial security like? Although I get the impression how she looked at the photo of Pauline and Ethal, and even that Abi seems to have a social life, that Dot will miss the social interaction. And who are these friends that Abi has gone to drink with? She wasn't in the Vic so she must have friends elsewhere which is seemingly against the law in EE to mix with people from outside the square.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 01/10/2016 15:00

Dot rents her house, When she was doing hard time in prision like a propparr Ganstaaa fat boy paid her rent.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 01/10/2016 15:03

someone has updated the eastenders Wikia now with a new birthdate for Dot, I'm assuming they've read the thread.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2016 18:48

I have finally caught up on this week's episodes after a week of bloody children's activities messing up my TV schedule (I need an EE style Kiddy Cupboard).

I see Denny has been let out of that cupboard BTW?

SuperFlyHigh · 02/10/2016 18:52

I've been quite disappointed in the non cliffhangers so far...

If they carry on doing this I may stop watching!

SuperFlyHigh · 02/10/2016 18:55

I did hear the reason June brown wasn't in EE so much now was because she was getting more and more forgetful...

EnidButton · 02/10/2016 20:20

The weird endings are...well...weird. It's like the Archers.

MrsJayy · 02/10/2016 22:15

We had tonnes to catch up on did it over the weekend isn't Denny meant to be in secondary I thought he was the same age as bobby not William!? It was like social awareness week what with the blue badge and kims ridiculous comments and Dennys reading of Janet it was so weird and awkward . I'm wondering if EE is trying to make June brown retire if she isn't in the launderette what can they do with her

MrsJayy · 02/10/2016 22:16

Teasing of Janet sorry

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 07:10

Dot seems to rarely be in the laundrette these days anyway. They dragged it out of mothballs for the ridiculous curried fishmonger restaurant and a couple of other short sequences but nothing much else. It used to be the place that everyone went to gossip - have they all got washing machines all of a sudden?

Florathefern · 03/10/2016 11:17

I'm still baffled how Stacey and Kyle managed to cook not one but two dinners (Becs had chickpea curry) in the new house ON MOVING day. Esp given they slacked at every opportunity. Stacey has morphed into Pauline with her 'fun later'. What she is she? 30ish?

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 11:20

To be fair, it was egg and chips and a vegan ready meal.

Florathefern · 03/10/2016 11:29

Ah I thought they cooked!

That is another thing I don't understand. They eat so badly and make a point of saying what they are eating. They never have vegetables. It can't be due to the cost as Martin sells veg and surely Kyle could manage to add a few veg to some meals for Lilly and Arthur especially.

celeste83 · 03/10/2016 11:30

Oh gawd yes the laundrette/restaurant story was perhaps the most stupid idea in EE history. As if a restaurant would get a licene to open in a laundrette.

Becky's curry was a microwave job i think wasn't it? Another random stroyline. How and why did she suddenly become vegan?

MrsJayy · 03/10/2016 11:40

Tamwar has popped up in jo brands new comedy on ch4 he has a beard to disguise himself but he isnt fooling me

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 11:45

Kyle is a bloody chef after all. I think his "famous" duck lasagne is the only proper meal I've seen cooked in the Fowler-Slater household.
