TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

Gael is looking tired already. And very much like he'd rather be elsewhere. I'm really annoyed. 15-40 in his service game now. I am disappointed with him.

NoBarbaraGood · 09/09/2016 22:25

Ad Gael now; a drop shot worked beautifully, and the crowd showed approval. Djokovic did his sardonic gesturing, "Oh, right. Give HIM the love..."

NoBarbaraGood · 09/09/2016 22:31

Egads. I'm taking to myself, aren't I? s l i n k i n g o f f . . . .

hugoagogo · 09/09/2016 23:11

I can only watch the numbers on the app, so hard to know what's really happening, but so disappointed about monfils- not surprised, but disappointed.
Go Stan!

magimedi · 10/09/2016 08:58

I will be cheering for Stan tomorrow - am deffo an ABD person!

Juan (aka ElPesky) is around but doesn't seem to post much these days. Think she is v busy with real life.

Raahh · 10/09/2016 11:03

Morning everyone !

Have been awol due to a migraine that has floored me since the early hours of Thursday. I am feeling a bit more human today, but not brilliant.

Glad Stan is through, I must say that all the slams have been a bit odd this year. Not sure I will watch tomorrow, but go Stan!

Sorry to hear you've been suffering, Raahh. Hope you're back to full strength soon.

I wonder what the men's final will be like? It would be great to see Stan play the kind of awesome tennis he is capable of; I worry he won't summon it for whatever reason.

The women's match ought to be quite enjoyable, though.

carabos · 10/09/2016 20:02

Go Jamie!

claig · 10/09/2016 20:13

Womens' final starts in 15 minutes' time.

I think Pliskova will beat Kerber. What does everyone think?

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2016 21:54

I think Kerber will win, buoyed along by the confidence she'll have from her new No. 1 ranking. Hope so anyway, I like her.

I'm Team Stan tomorrow, I'm another ABD person.

Raahh hope you feel better soon. You have my utmost sympathy as migraines used to make my life a misery too. Thankfully I don't seem to get them any more.

claig · 10/09/2016 22:05

Drama, you are right so far. Kerber is playing better so far. I am not a Kerber fan in general because I think she often gets down on herself and throws victory away, but not today.

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2016 23:16

This is going to be a close one. It's good to see a very competitive match.

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2016 23:33

Well done to Kerber, she kept her head very well at the end of the match & fully deserved to win.

claig · 10/09/2016 23:37

Kerber always does that. She loses, becomes negative and then is able to come back from behind. She doesn't like to be the front runner in the lead, she always lets it slip and becomes despondent (which I don't like because it is negative) and then she is able to fight back as the underdog.

Raahh · 11/09/2016 21:20

I'm still feeling woolly headed, so I don't think I will see much of this match. But Come On!! Stan!

CremeEggThief · 11/09/2016 23:12

Set all. Come on Stan! (Listening to it on R5SX through the tv.)

BagelGoesWalking · 11/09/2016 23:57

My God! This is amazing! I'm watching on delay so I can skip ads - start of 6th game in 3rd set, just incredible

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2016 00:55

Come on Stan! Djok is rattled. Wilander's commentary is driving me nuts as usual.

CremeEggThief · 12/09/2016 01:22

Stan is the MAN!

BagelGoesWalking · 12/09/2016 07:13

Was a cracking match, joy to watch those Wawrinka backhands down the line. Shame Djokovic was injured in the last set but match was fab.

hugoagogo · 12/09/2016 07:37

Yay just got up to see the score. Go Stan! Grin Tennis

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2016 09:45

Brilliant news to wake up to today. I finally forced myself to go to bed when Stan was 4-1 up in the 4th & I thought he'd do it.

So pleased for him Tennis

Raahh · 12/09/2016 10:32

I am really pleased for Stan. I went to bed early, when the first set looked a done deal. Saw it went to a tie break, but wasn't that confident. So the fact he turned it around to win the next 3 is great. Have recorded it, so will watch it when I'm feeling a bit more human.

Not sure what it says about Djok- all players have dips in form, and given he has been the dominant player really for a while (and last year was one of his best ever years), something has to give at some point. Some players sustain injuries more easily, some lose confidence. Rafa managed to do both Grin.

So, into the last few months- I can't believe how quickly this year has gone.

It will soon be the Aussie open again

Well I didn't get to see any of the US Open but I'm delighted that Stan won!

NoBarbaraGood · 12/09/2016 14:13

Well done, Stan!!
