TENNIS THREAD!- From the Road to Rio, to Flushing Meadows...

Raahh · 09/08/2016 23:14

before my phone decides to give up altogether, here's a new thread to get us on our way.

Andy Murray still in the Olympic Singles, as is Rafa,

Jo Konta through for the women.

Lots of missing names from the top players- but we are edging towards the US open- without Federer- and who knows, maybe even without Djokovic.

Could we be heading for all change at the top?

Whatever Serena was wearing last night, made her look like she was wearing long black gloves, like Morticia. Maybe she thought Hallowe'en had come early. I agree, that Venus always looks less garish.

yy, US Open was with Sky for years. They ditched it earlier this year, not sure why. i hate how US is all scheduled to basically fit tv obligations. It doesn't do the players, or the viewers, any favours.

and Eurosport has all the usual suspects when it comes to the commentators- which is a bit annoying. They ruin watching for me- and I have totally gone off Marion.

Good to see Dan Evans doing well, he has good events, and spectacularly bad ones Grin, let's hope this is a good one.

oh dear- Youzhney has retired against Djok. So, that's a walkover, and a retirement for Djok in the last 2 matches. Now, I'm not a Novak fan, but it's not his fault- it's the luck of the draw (and am sure Murray fans would be saying that, if the same happened in his favour). It happens.

But I can already imagine how some media are going to react to it, saying how 'easy' it has been made for him.

Anyway, in other news, am sad to see Cilic go out, Konta is through (and played very confidently indeed), and I'm watching Monfils/Almagro. Monfils looking good, but I do like Almagro.

Sitting up watching Kyle- was up until early hours watching Naomi Broady last night. All this late night sport is finishing me off!!

Just recovered from the Olympics and now this.

Dh reminded me that the Ryder Cup is on at the end of the month....

Raahh · 02/09/2016 23:46

Nishky Grin

I know, I'm not going to get up on Monday. I'm sure the dc can find their own way to school. Grin

Rafa match about to start . I REALLY shouldn't stay up to watch it.

Kyle doing well this set.

Late night sport, I know... I'm permanently tired these days Grin

The Olympics, and now the Vuelta da Espana and the US Open are on at the same time. Well, the Vuelta is on during the day, but I have to record it and watch it in the evening, which then runs seamlessly into to some lovely live tennis.

And then the Ryder Cup... I don't normally watch golf but I make an exception for that.

Kyle is going really well. So good to see the British players doing well here.

Thanks for the heads up about Rafa's match, Raahh, I'll turn over to that in a minute.

Raahh · 03/09/2016 00:46

excellent start for Rafa, maybe it is safe to go to bed?Grin

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2016 00:49

I wouldn't, you might jinx him if you go Grin

Raahh · 03/09/2016 00:54

Drama- true, and that was a pretty quick set. Could be over soon, anyway Grin

Kyle still doing well.

Been out for the night and very tired, but I'm glued to Kyle's match. He's playing so well.

Hopefully he'll take this set and I can go to bed

Nishky · 03/09/2016 01:20

If this goes to a 5th set then I AM going to bed.

Definitely.

No I am.

Raahh · 03/09/2016 01:26

Nishky Grin

Kuznetsov has decided to join in with the second set. Which is not he plan.

Vamos!!

Yes Kyle!

Raahh · 03/09/2016 01:36

Well Rafa has broken and is now serving for the second set, so I feel a bit better-known. Grin

AmIthatbloodycold · 03/09/2016 01:53

I'm off to bed now Nishky

Kyle played very well and he was so chuffed to win. Wee sweetheart Smile

Nishky · 03/09/2016 08:57

I was woken at 5 by a child needing painkillers- the Brits are playing early today aren't they? 'Sobs'

See you all tonight Grin

AmIthatbloodycold · 03/09/2016 10:49

Will be a battle with DD for the TV tonight as she has been counting down to the launch of Strictly for weeks.

I'm soooooo tired

Nishky · 03/09/2016 14:29

Strictly on to, tennis on iPad for me!

BeckerLleytonNever · 03/09/2016 19:30

Nishky (Is that a spoof name of Nishikori?) Hope your childs better.

Oh well done Kyle.

Watching Delpo now. cant exactly miss him with that get up! Tennis

Raahh · 03/09/2016 19:53

Delpo struggling- bloody wrist.

I like Ferrer too, so I'm a bit torn. But i think i'd like Delpo to take it.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/09/2016 20:13

good come back- tie break!

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/09/2016 21:26

2 sets for Delpo, all square at 3-3 in the 3rd. Tricky match up for both of them. A shame it is so early in the tournament, as they both deserve to go further.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/09/2016 21:43

yay! Delpo is through. Sad for David though.

tight first set for Murray.
