Anyone seen the first episode of Fleabag? I found it on iPlayer and it rather amused me.

I thought it was superb. The first half of the first episode made me feel old and out of touch (the bumsex stuff) then I realised how dark and real it was. So much of her life was so very, very bleak.

INeedNewShoes · 27/08/2016 14:59

I think I'm up to Episode 4. It might have been the mood I was in at the time, but I felt really sad at the end of whichever episode it was that I last watched. The main character is so sad and lonely and lost her brilliant soul mate Sad

Thank you for reminding me about it though. I'll catch up on more episodes this evening.

drigon · 27/08/2016 21:46

Yes, liked her uptight sis. and their relationship.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/08/2016 22:39

Just seen ep 2.

I find it interesting and v watchable. I laugh at Harry a lot, especially when she frightens him in the shower. I find her v likeable- like the sister stuff, dad stuff and the sex stuff.

Yeah, pretty good.

The asides to camera do remind me of Miranda, but I'm a Miranda fan too.

This was the most delicately balanced comedy I have seen in a long time. It made me laugh, it made me feel uncomfortably prudish and it made me sob (big, ugly, gulpy crying). I hope there's another series.

ThymeForTea · 29/08/2016 18:50

I too have just cried all my tears over that last episode! OMG so emotional

Namechanger2015 · 30/08/2016 00:15

Loved this, the lead actress and writer did a fabulous job, I thought Olivia Coleman was fantastic and the sister and the husband were very well shaped characters.

Hope this series continues, these little bbc comedy mini series are just excellent. Also worth watching Mum and Him and Her.

BBC comedy is awesome.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/08/2016 00:25

Watched the last episode last night. A tear slid out my eye which was surprising because I'm not a blubber.

I guessed all the twists but that's ok, I usually do.

I liked that the characters were more rounded than normal but subtler. And they were flawed, deeply, deeply flawed. Just like real people.

Jumijumai15 · 31/08/2016 10:33

Media adulation unfounded. PR agents busy? "Hilarious , irreverent, rude, updated Bridget Jones..etc ".Not.
Thanks Mumsnet for balanced views and identifying formula. FB marginally above poor August TV fare .
That said Notting Hill rework inevitable. And US will gobble up (!)

AncoraAmarena · 31/08/2016 10:56

I binged watched the series over the weekend and watched the last episode last night.

Absolutely loved it; the characters were cast so well, the episodes were sweet, funny, sad, thought provoking - brilliant. Loved loved loved it!

madmother1 · 03/09/2016 22:46

Just binged watched all 6 episodes today. I loved it. I didn't guess the twist.

ImperialBlether · 04/09/2016 13:35

I've just seen the first two episodes and loved it. How photogenic is she, though?

Her sister was in Pulling - did anyone see that? Similar sort of programme really.

allegretto · 04/09/2016 13:40

I saw it this summer and loved it. The writing is excellent- especially love Olivia Colman's character and how she manages to be a complete bitch without being obviously nasty!

eyemonster12 · 04/09/2016 13:48

I can't believe people didn't enjoy this! Dark and twisty and so, so real, argh I adored it!

Ameliapeabody · 04/09/2016 13:48

I'm glad I stuck with this one. It improved vastly after the first couple. I enjoyed it very much in the end

EllaHen · 04/09/2016 14:42

I really enjoyed it. Uncomfortable at times, hilarious at other times and very insightful. More please.

Grumpyoldblonde · 04/09/2016 14:52

Best thing I've seen in ages, we binge watched every episode a couple of weeks ago. Loved Olivia Coleman in it ("such a sad day for you girls... I'll get the champagne") such a passive aggressive character. I found it almost impossible to take my eyes of Phoebe Waller Bridge, she was mesmerising.

EsmesBees · 04/09/2016 20:13

Loved this. Felt really sad for her while being really frustrated and simultaneously charmed by her. A delicate line to tread but she got it spot on.

CustardLover · 04/09/2016 23:11

Just found this after seeing a ton of social media recommendations and whaddya know, the filter bubble is sometimes a good thing - I absolutely love it.

ProseccoBitch · 07/09/2016 14:53

I binge watched the first five yesterday, loved it.

Davros · 18/09/2016 19:18

Just started watching it, enjoyed so far and will continue. Interestingly there was an article in RT by David Baddiel comparing it to Miranda!

The80sweregreat · 18/09/2016 21:25

The picture of Olivia coleman on her artist poster on the 'sexhibition' was perfect.

Moanranger · 24/09/2016 00:22

I've just watched two episodes so far, a bit painful as she is so sad. It has a big following in US. It is picking up similar themes to Crazy ex girlfriend on Netflix, but much darker.

Bellini12 · 28/09/2016 10:46

Just watched all 6 episodes over a week. Thought it was brilliant. The main actress has great comic timing and I loved the little side looks and comments to the camera. But also it had a pathos about it and was a lot deeper than just a lighthearted sit com. I hope there are more to come.

Any other recommendations for something similar?

GeekyWombat · 02/10/2016 18:17

So glad I found this thread! Watched the first ten minutes of this at my body's equivalent of 3am on a transatlantic flight - when I got home I had to google 'masturbating to Barack Obama speeches' as I couldn't remember the name of the programme (and was half convinced I'd dreamt it!).

We binge watched the whole thing in a couple of nights and loved it. Very funny albeit dark. Also I really loved the bank manager's monologue about wanting to unload the dishwasher for his wife and see her drink from a mug. Weirdly, understatedly lovely.

I do have a bit of a girl crush now too.
