Let's hope this series will be better then last one

Obviously you will save money if not buying the most exspensive items every week /spending £200/300

How about helping a family who spend £50/60 and need to cut it down even more

Tho do love the taste challenge esp when they say something is disgusting - and it's their usual posh brand 😂😂😂

Charlotte the £85 was on the weekly shop, then she was spending £45 on the sons food on top, then doing about another £90 of top up shopping a week. She was topping up the shop 14 times a week!
hairspray Yes, i was surprised that the kids took to going from biscuits for breakfast to egg muffins just like that after a week! I wonder how long she will stick to it? And you can make a batch of egg muffins and freeze them and shove them in the microwave
Hmm... you would have thought then that instead of complaining about the way his wife was bringing up the kids on the telly, he would have said something to her about their crap diet and her giving in to them all the time. Maybe he had but she didnt listen to him!

wobblywonderwoman · 21/07/2016 09:51

They were a lovely family ablnd I do think they will change their ways. I think the mother realised you can't just take the east option of not saying no. I loved the recipes too.

CharlotteCollins · 21/07/2016 11:53

Sorry, i wasn't clear. I meant the £85 saving at the end. Although I think my reaction last night shows how dramatic the result needs to be to impress a cynical audience! Grin

The number of top-ups was incredible.

raisedbyguineapigs · 21/07/2016 13:00

Yes I thought they would save more considering how terrible they were! I'm quite frugal and can save £50 just by shopping at Aldi instead of Sainsbury's! £ 85 multiplied every week is a lot though Grin

wobblywonderwoman · 21/07/2016 15:33

How much have you all spent this week? I bought 15 euro worth of meat at the butchers yesterday (pork, steak burgers, chicken) and aldi shop just there (including batteries and one pack of nappies and chicken) 68 euro. I will have to buy milk Sunday and Tuesday. So 90 euro. Some weeks I can do it for 60 but we all at home (four of us) no meals out and lots of stuff off packed lunches in there this week when we go to parks.

unimagmative13 · 21/07/2016 15:43

It was a strange one. Who pops in the supermarket twice a day to buy the kids Capri sun? Then go as a couple shopping once a week? Who had the kids while they did this? I would say obviously that didn't happen and she did the shopping.

We spend £60/70 a week for 3 of us. We could cut it down but I try to avoid top ups and buy a lot. We buy formula once a weeks, nappies probably once a moment. £15 a week on a takeaway.

I eat out probably a fair bit as I'm on mat leave so go out, but that's out of my personal budget.

raisedbyguineapigs · 21/07/2016 15:50

The older kids were teenagers so probably able to look after the younger one

I spent £60 in Aldi but then had to go out to buy squash and ice cream because it was so hot it had run out! It would be an interesting exercise to keep the receipts for everything. I can't believe the woman in this was surprised that she had done 14 top up shops that week, as she must have given them the receipts!

Idliketobeabutterfly · 22/07/2016 15:18

Most brands go on sale on a six week (approx) cycle. If you 'have to have brands you Buy in bulk when price drops if it has a long expiry date and never buy at 'normal' price.

unimagmative13 · 22/07/2016 21:31

There are so many more helpful wats to cut the shopping it's hot just about buying value.

The don't discuss buying on promotion, meal planning, online shopping so you can stick to a budget.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2016 16:11

tonight episode

Gregg and Chris visit a household in Leicestershire, where mother Lindsey's baking obsession, coupled with her fear of the cupboards being empty and her love of brands, mean the family's spending on food has spiralled out of control. With a food shop that is over three times the national average, the presenters introduce the family to some new recipes to shake up their bad habits

wonder what the national average is, and obv depends on the size/age of your family

a family of 4 with 2 at primary school will eat less/be cheaper then family of 4 and 2 teenagers

I dont know why i like this programme but i do find it quite addictive. T is probably the voyeur in me!😄

MackerelOfFact · 27/07/2016 16:24

The thing that really winds me up about this programme is that they'll substitute Morrisons own brand cereal, Tesco own brand jam, Asda own brand butter and Lidl own brand olives mayonnaise etc. They're obviously not going to go four different supermarkets for their weekly shop so why not just use the one that's nearby?

I know it's the BBC and they can't be seen to favour a particular retailer but it still gets on my nerves!

notamummy10 · 27/07/2016 16:40

I'm still watching last week's episode, I don't get why the mum cooks for her job but when she gets home she relies on 'ping meals'... It did make me laugh when the kids thought the Coke was a cheaper brand.

I will agree, the 17p diet cola isn't very nice as it tastes watered down. But Aldi do their version for 42p and even I like it- if they want branded diet cola, then they should switch to Pepsi as it's often on promotion at the supermarkets!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2016 16:58

i agree they need to stick to one shop, so the main shop the family go to

maybe do an aldi, tesco, waitroise, sains, lidl one Grin

ive said previously the lidl max coke is lovely and about 1/4 price of pepsi max

AliceTheCamelHasNoHumps · 27/07/2016 17:01

Mackerel I was just going to join this thread to make exactly the same comment! Its not really saving money if you're driving around 4 different supermarkets, and who has the time to do that anyway? **

unimagmative13 · 27/07/2016 17:30

I don't get why they show a busy family taking time out to do a shop as a couple. When they both clearly have different ideas! My husband isn't allowed to join me, wouldn't want too and would be a nightmare!

What don't the show online shopping in This day and age! Much easier to shop promotions and set a budget!

ellenanora5 · 27/07/2016 20:03

Can't wait to see how much this shopping will cost

ellenanora5 · 27/07/2016 20:05

That's true unimagmative13, I think shopping online can really help save money

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/07/2016 20:09

The obscene waste of perfectly decent food makes me so fucking angry Angry

seasidesally · 27/07/2016 20:10

on all these i wonder what their income is

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2016 20:10

I've got this in too. I can't believe she was chucking away perfectly good food.

ellenanora5 · 27/07/2016 20:11

Oh wow, £235, that's ok then because she still has to do a top up shopShock

wobblywonderwoman · 27/07/2016 20:11

I would go mad if the shopping came to 235

I spent 70 euro today including nappies

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/07/2016 20:11

People relying on food banks
People living in poverty
And people binning food
Shame on them Angry

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2016 20:11

Bloody hell! £16 grand on food!
