werent the JUry terrible?
theri deliberations were POINT Less and not based onevidence at all
if we deliberated like that in cout we'd be chucked out
intersting how the women were (with one guardian reader excepetion- hooray to her)the most veneomous and unforgiving. God that lot would haev been shaving heads of collaberators in ww2

and hte Indian woman was useless as she coudltn get away fromt eh fact that the woman had had sex full stop.

Fireflyfairy2 · 22/01/2007 22:44

I hated the last bit. Where they showed what happened in the hotel room. I hated seeing her weep... & him break down even though he was guilty. It must be so bloody hard for a woman to try & rebuild her life.

Hey, how about the man who said they can't think of the woman, just the man, it was just the mans future was at stake...

CODNoMore · 23/01/2007 08:59

he wept wiht releief

Fireflyfairy2 · 23/01/2007 09:35

No, the only witnesses they had were their work colleagues who he had breakfast with the following morning & the boss who said he had saw them arguing in work. The work colleagues said the girl said she wasn't drunk the night before, but they thought she was. When asked by his colleagues why he had told them he had not had sex with her he said he did it to be a gentleman.

Yes.. he was dog ugly.

I am really concerned that there seems to be even less solidarity between women today. Rape trials are a complete disgrace and appalling indictment of our society.

Fireflyfairy2 · 23/01/2007 09:45

The girls were nasty & horrible. The blonde who said she was in a similar situation & got out of it.. liar!! She made it out that the girl wanted to be raped

CODNoMore · 23/01/2007 09:46

agree aloha

btu the deliberation was terrible
no structure
no lookign at teh evicence
no logic all opinion

the chari was terrible

OP posts:
Sheraz · 23/01/2007 09:46

Cod I take it you are a JP? You must deapair at the foibles of our legal system.

CODNoMore · 23/01/2007 09:47

i am
i do

often.

OP posts:
Aloha · 23/01/2007 09:47

I am most upset by the juries tbh cod - and what the prosecution is still allowed to get up to.

Sheraz · 23/01/2007 09:51

Unfortunately the majority of people whao are 'available ' for jury service are very often the least appropriate members to such a duty. How many of you have ever been called/ taken part? I don't know any one who's opinion I respect that has ever been called. My Dad ( who I am persuading to become a JP) would love to do it and would be fab - never ever been called. I think they purposely call up the morons, for Sun type kangaroo courts!

CODNoMore · 23/01/2007 09:53

i think tis odd too
in brum i kwew loads of peopel who were repeatedly claled up

OP posts:
Sheraz · 23/01/2007 09:55

I am thinking 'conspiracy theory here' maybe the more uneducated types who do jury service= the less chance of conviction = less people in prison = govt don't have to build more prisons. Perfect!!!!

LittleSarah · 23/01/2007 09:57

I didn't see it, in a way I wish I had, in a way I'm glad I didn't.

But I agree with Aloha, the rape statistics are incredibly depressing.

CODNoMore · 23/01/2007 09:57

oh no LS it was worth watchign

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 23/01/2007 10:00

Checked on Radio Times website and there doesn't seem to be a repeat on... damn.

We watched this strange drama thing in school once, where Thandie Newton's character was raped, and her date/friend was also found not guilty.

Not sure what it was supposed to teach us, be careful, don't get raped, you'll never get a conviction.

Molesworth · 23/01/2007 10:05

I was wondering the same LS (what is supposed to be teaching us). I think it's a good thing to expose what actually goes on in court in a case like this, but at the same time it will surely put even more women off reporting rapes which could be seen as 'ambiguous' like this one

LittleSarah · 23/01/2007 10:08

I think of the horror of the trial and the questioning and I think, no, I wouldn't even bother, he'll just get away with it.

prettybird · 23/01/2007 10:16

Both my dh and I have been called (and served) twice - we're both classic middle class, degree educated people, so that doesn't fit with the "consipracy" theory. And quite a few people on the second jury I served on were teachers. (can't remember the first)

Actaully I've been called more than twice - but once I was still witihn my "five years" from the previous time, and the second time, they never came back to me when I said I'd need somewhere to express as ds was under 6 months and I was fully breasfeeding!

Maybe the fact that in Scotland you need 15 jurors and not 12 means that they have to call a wider range of people.
