They aren't cousins, daenarys is his aunt. I know people are invested in the daenarys/Jon wedding but I still think it's ick

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 27/06/2016 11:55

Aejon! Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/06/2016 12:02

Lady Stark, what BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts was saying is that Sansa and Jon are first cousins so could marry. Daenerys is indeed Jon's aunt. I know the Targs don't much bother about that kind of thing, but I agree, it would be very ick for an aunt and niece to marry. Come to that, there are plenty of people who wouldn't be too keen on first cousins marrying either...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/06/2016 12:02

Or even an aunt and nephew.... sigh.

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 12:03

Imagine keeping quiet all those years....to see him treated like a bastard and ignored and abused by his wife and still keeping quiet. He certainly fulfilled her dying wish now didn't he

WeDoNotSow · 27/06/2016 12:05

Jon way back in book 1:

'...he was his father's son, and Robb's brother. The gift of a sword, even a sword as fine as Longclaw, did not make him a Mormont. Nor was he Aemon Targaryen'

His name has to be Aemon after that

WeDoNotSow · 27/06/2016 12:06

And he certainly is 'his father's son'
It's just that his father wasn't Ned

OlennasWimple · 27/06/2016 12:14

I've watched the scene a few times: HBO closed captions are completely silent (not even "his name is..."), but I reckon it definitely starts with "Ae"

OlennasWimple · 27/06/2016 12:19

Let's follow this through...

Jon is still a Stark by birth, but not Ned's son - does this undermine Lady Mormont's speech and the subsequent acclaimation that he is the King?

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 12:19

Yeah until the part when she says about Robert it just says "indistinguishable murmuring" so I don't even have subtitles to help

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 12:21

Jon isn't a Stark by birth is he?
His mother was a Stark but his house depends on his father.

Whilst it was never confirmed it was heavily hinting that his father was Rhaegor Taergaryean so he is a Taergaryean by birth

Another complication is that it looks as if Bran is on his way back south of the Wall. He is the true heir to Winterfell. How will that play out? Would he want it?

Also, what will Arya do next?

Names left on her list: Cersei, The Mountain, The Hound, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr - is that all? Surely though, she won't actually go for the last three? I hope not.

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 12:39

Been a while so struggling to remember but can we remember the reasons why they were on his list?

Cersei and the mountain is obvious but the others?

LaserShark · 27/06/2016 12:44

I don't think I'll believe that Marjery truly died even though it looked impossible for her to survive. I'll keep hoping to see her pop back up!

Jaime has finished with Cersei now, hasn't he? He has clearly undergone a transformation and his conversation with Frey was obviously significant - he was a man without honour for so long but Brienne has shown him the way, I'm sure.

I was cheering when Arya took her revenge and I cannot wait to see her reunited with Jon.

Now Bran knows about Jon's birth but how will he tell anyone and how can it be proven?

Sansa looks like she may well betray Jon, doesn't she? I can't bear to see her make another mistake and hitch herself to another disaster of a man so I truly hope she doesn't desert with Littlefinger but I feel like she will. The thing is, I don't think Jon even wants power; is he interested in ruling?

Poor, lovely, devoted little Tommen. He was such a nice boy.

Cersei's revenge on the the Septa made me feel sick. She is a monster and has lost everything, her grasp on the throne seems very tenuous as most people hate her - I think she is going to fight with everything she has next season and her downfall will be epic and magnificent.

I thought it was an amazing episode.

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 12:46

Dh said "what is she going to do to the septa?!"

Everything and anything I should think...she has a very sadistic streak in her. Not helped by having the mountain as back up. Who would go against him?

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 27/06/2016 12:49

What a tremendous series finale. How many sleeps until the next season? Grin

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 27/06/2016 12:57

I thought she might have given the septa to qyburn. She still might.
No way will cersei keep the throne - she has become the mad queen and will be overthrown the first chance people get. She has never been beloved and margaery was. The people liked the sparrows too iirc.
I don't think Jon wants to be King, he never wanted power but it keeps being thrust upon him. I worry that Sansa will defect to littlefinger but at the moment his star is in the wane so maybe not.
Bran won't want to be Lord of winterfell but they have weirwood trees so he could be resident Raven of winterfell so Lord in name only. However Jon being King doesn't preclude bran being Lord I don't think.
Sansa won't be jealous of Jon I don't think as she never expected to be Lord of winterfell, I think she doesn't want power either she just wants to be safe.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 27/06/2016 12:58

I think its awfully relevant what the mountain did to ella martel. :(

MissMoo22 · 27/06/2016 12:59

Amazing episode! It just put everything/everyone in the right place and tied up everything ready for the 2 most important things next season......the fight for the Iron Throne and the battle against the white walkers (although I think that'll be more of a final season battle once Dany and Jon have met and their relation revealed).

It has also made me not so sad about next season only having 7 episodes as I think the last 2/3 eps of this season where just filler because they hadn't enough stories to keep the 10 episode arc interesting.

The opening was amazing, the music just set the whole thing up but I was shocked to see Margeary was amongst the fatalities. Tommen's suicide actually got to me more than anything else I've seen on GoT (even Hodor's death) because he was just a boy, a good boy raised by and around people who only want power and will anything to get it. I think Cersei absolutely knew he would kill himself but went ahead anyway because she is too corrupted by power and anger now. She dressed in black (mourning) in what would be her gown for her coronation BEFORE Tommen killed himself, I think she was knew he couldn't live with knowing what his Mother had done. I stupidly didn't see his suicide coming even though I read that spoiler a few weeks ago.

Arya, I figured that was her when Jamie kept looking at her (although for a minute I thought he was actually going to sleep with her, maybe making us see that his love for Cersei wasn't as strong) because I was wondering what significance the Freys had to this whole episode, it had to be for Arya to get her revenge. And she must be some sort of super slayer to have been able to murder all his sons and bake them in a pie (how much time did she need to murder, chop them all up and cook them??).

Sansa, I don't actually think she is planning on betraying Jon at all. Or if she is going to then I don't think she has any idea that she is going to. She is shocked to hear he is getting the main bedroom ready for HER, not him, so she knows he has no plans to oust her. I think she is truely happy to just be home for now, with Jon, and will not have any plans to do anything more until forced to next season.

Jon, I actually got goosebumps during the 'King in the North' thing, even though I thought he had been a bit wet previously but I think every thing that is happening to him now is making him stronger, setting him up for his future.

Amazing episode and I'm so glad it's ended on a high (of sorts) than a massive cliffhanger which would have been awful seeing as how we have such a long wait for the next one.

Oh, one more thing, Jon's name.....that's going to be a bit strange finding out he's not 'Jon' anymore but Aemon/Aerys etc. But he definitely wouldn't be Jon, no way Lyanna would name him that. And yes, there were 2 (I think) women in the chamber with Lyanna so maybe they are around somewhere, knowing the secret too because I can't see Ned killing them for it. It was a bit odd though that he entered the room, saw her covered in blood and didn't ask WTF happened?

MissMoo22 · 27/06/2016 13:03

One more thing (that makes 2 now).....Sam at the Citadel. When he was being shown to the library I honestly thought he was there only to get access to that library. Like he had went the whole way there just to see a certain book/books about the White Walkers, get the info he needed and then ride back to Jon armed with as much knowledge as possible. But then when I saw the sheer size of the library I realised that wouldn't make sense as he would need too much time to find the fucking books in the first place.

BeyondTellingEveryoneRealFacts · 27/06/2016 13:04

...but i also think we wont be told (like gendry and that bloody boat)
It'll just be left to our imaginations

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 13:04

He probably asked the midwives after. He could see she was in no fit state to ask questions

WingMirrorSpider · 27/06/2016 13:10

Wasn't Jon also the name of Rhaegar's best mate too (Jon Connington wasn't it?)

Maybe she did name him Jon after him? Meaningful to Rhaegar but also nice and anonymous (and non-Targy) to protect him.

Maybe Rhaegar chose the name.

MissMoo22 · 27/06/2016 13:19

Ah wing as a non book reader (tried to but couldn't get into the 2nd book, might try again) I didn't know that. It would be nice if it was just Jon, would save us from having to get used to calling him a new name.
