I knew Paul was leaving, but my TV magazine definitely says BEN KILLED! Shock Episode on the front page. The usual tactic when something isn't going to happen would be to say BEN KILLED? instead. I suppose he might still be in the canal or something. Where else could he be?

Lots of people have been saying they felt an episide was missing, but I kind of liked that. It coming out of nowhere added a touch of grim realism.

BeMorePanda · 18/07/2016 23:54

Kaff was in Footballers Wives too

AGnu · 18/07/2016 23:58

They made a big thing of Ben saying Paul didn't need his wallet. Perhaps it was planned. Ben was trying to get a liver for Phil on the black market but a deal went dodgy & Ben had to take a leaf out of his mum's book & fake his own death. Would explain why he's been a bit funny with Paul recently - he'd arranged to have him offed. The "muggers" we're supposed to dispose of the body in the canal after cutting his hair but they were interrupted. Ben's now hiding out in Gavin's mansion. They've not done an unexpected faked death storyline for a few months!

EnidButton · 19/07/2016 02:23

That would've been much better if they hadn't released any spoilers. They used to be very good at keeping things secret. It has a much better impact.

Whitney's giggling was getting right on my wick. Blush Although Londa was great. "Do you have a bun, Whitney?". I'm wondering if they'll go down a miscarriage and then infertility route. Caused by chlamydia. They were really ramming it home about all she's ever wanted is to be a Mum.

Eminybob · 19/07/2016 05:15

That episode quite upset me tbh. Call me thick but I actually didn't see it coming Blush. I knew it wasn't going to be Ben but it didn't even occur to me that it would be Paul for some reason. Even though I knew he was leaving. Maybe I was just being optimistic. I love the Ben and Paul relationship.

Seeing his dead body at the hospital made me feel a bit sick and has stayed with me ever since. I know it's not real but it's given me the shivers Confused

ThatsMyStapler · 19/07/2016 06:43

Not having ever been in that situation, but is that how a hospital would do that?

Tell people that someone is dead, id based on a phone?

Lilaclily · 19/07/2016 06:56

Is this storyline to make Ben evil again?

SoupDragon · 19/07/2016 07:30

The hospital didn't actually say "Ben Mitchell died" did they? I think they said " the young man who was brought in..." And Phil interjected with "Ben Mitchell"

They had to then formally identify the body to confirm the identity.

AGnu finitely has the most likely option - a black market liver transplant gone wrong :o

AndYourBirdCanSing · 19/07/2016 07:47

Yes Soup, that's how the hospital said it.
Why did Steven ring Shirley just as they went to identify the body? Would you not wait to make sure?!

I feel so sorry for the Cokers Sad This is bound to send Ben off the rails again. I too think it was definitely a homophobic attack due to how they portrayed Ben trying to be more openly affectionate in public

SoupDragon · 19/07/2016 07:55

Mistakes with misidentifying bodies happens all the time - I know this from my extensive experience of Casualty.

I feel for the Cokers too. This seems unnecessarily cruel - they've lost their son and now their grandson and their happy retirement is gone :(

Eminybob · 19/07/2016 07:56

Do you think babe will do the right thing and stop tormenting the Cokers after this?

SoupDragon · 19/07/2016 08:01

She didn't stop after Les had the heart attack. I'm not sure she knows how to do the right thing.

LineyReborn · 19/07/2016 08:14

Farewell, Sideshow Paul.

Optimist1 · 19/07/2016 08:22

Do you think Shirley cottoned on to what Kathy was on the point of blurting out about her and Buster?

southeastdweller · 19/07/2016 08:36

Agree it was cruel to kill off Paul. I'd guessed last week that he was going to die and not Ben, but did think he'd be reunited with his mum first Sad

LineyReborn · 19/07/2016 08:55

Did Paul not get a chance to read his mum's letters? Is that significant? (Other than showing the sweet and demure little Birdy as a warped and calculating child snatcher.)

Ooh, I wonder if Birdy will channel her inner monster and seek revenge on Babe. Or maybe Ben will.

I fear Whitney is heading for the soap cliché of Lee not being happy about her pregnancy; Lee coming round to the idea; Whitney having a miscarriage; Lee finding out the chlamydia connection and being forced by Lauren to fess up; Whitney devastated; Abi returns to pariah status; Babe tries to get involved but Birdy puts her in hospital for upsetting Paul in his last days on earth.

It's all real, you know.

unimagmative13 · 19/07/2016 09:01

Shirley will figure out buster and Kathy then that's her perfect excuse to go after Phil

Jasonandyawegunorts · 19/07/2016 09:15

Les's dad used to same some pretty generic stuff.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 19/07/2016 09:42

Les's dad used to say some pretty generic stuff.

Wasn't that an amazing twist?Shock

I feel sorry for pauls actor, They have never really given him anything to do.... then kill him off just as he get's his own storyline.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 19/07/2016 09:43

The answer by the way is "no" twasn't an amazing twist.

dingdongdigeridoo · 19/07/2016 09:54

I had forgotten about Kaff in Footballers Wives. I miss that show! She pretty much played the same character in that too.

It'll be kind of annoying if it was a homophobic attack. Why can't they just have a normal gay couple who aren't plagued by tragedy? Last time it was disapproving muslim parents and alcoholism.

I'm guessing Whitney is in for a shock of some sort. They really can't leave that character alone can they? I seem to remember having STI tests at my early appointment as a matter of course. So if she's caught anything it'd come up then.

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/07/2016 10:03

Cried my eyes out yesterday. Must have been hard for Ian and Phil to find the right emotion to play - relief that it wasn't Ben, but also upset that a young life had still been lost. I think EE missed a chance by not having Jay there instead of Steven, am sure he's performance would have been amazing. Just glad Sharon wasn't there.
Really don't know if I can face today's episode though with Kathy's bad acting, and the heartbreak from Les and Pam.

BeMorePanda · 19/07/2016 10:17

OMG is Phil going to be saved by Paul's Gay Liver?

Shock
dingdongdigeridoo · 19/07/2016 11:01

Oh gawd, not Les and his sad acting. He's dreadful.

SoupDragon · 19/07/2016 11:54

Liney I think that's probably exactly how Whitney's baby story will pan out :o

So much has been made of how she spdesparate,y wants a faaaamily that it can't possibly end happily.
