I'm an episode behind and I've just heard in the RADIO that Peggy is dead...what?!?!?!

I want to call in sick to work to watch now!!

SoupDragon · 18/05/2016 07:07

I am going to go against the grain and say I was disappointed with last nights episode.

20 minutes of secret goodbyes and totally fake "poignant moments", 8 minutes of Mitchell bickering and 2 of genuine good episode at the end.

I did like the comedy back drop of the toilets being shifted back next door though.

MrsJayy · 18/05/2016 07:11

Ah that explains it Bluethursday Grin i did know Perry was named after Perry I love Kathy Burke not enough of her on tv imo

Goingtobeawesome · 18/05/2016 07:13

Thank you Jason

Jasonandyawegunorts · 18/05/2016 07:36

Soup

Shock I banish you to the kiddie cupboard!!!

But seriously i totally get the dislike at the Grant tick boxes, Go to pub, fight with Phil, Kiss sharron, be told off by Peggy, stand side by side with peggy in the iconic mitchell pose.

southeastdweller · 18/05/2016 07:41

I wasn't crazy about the episode. Pat's death was much more moving.

I thought Ross Kemp was fine and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the summer, especially if he's not wearing much Wink. Presumably he'll return with Courtenay.

SoupDragon · 18/05/2016 09:10

I think they did the actual suicide very very well, all by just inferring it rather than showing it. The rest of the episode though was just set pieces strung together.

MrsJayy · 18/05/2016 09:14

I think the end made the episode really was really endearing and sensitive

LemonBreeland · 18/05/2016 09:26

I think the end of the episode was done well, but I didn't much like the rest of it either. It was all a bit surreal. The wandering through the Vic bit and all of that.

southeastdweller · 18/05/2016 10:03

Surreal and repetitive - Peggy walking round the square with her boys, Peggy looking forlornly round the Vic...really boring.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 18/05/2016 10:55

I thought the best part by far was with Pat- very emotional at the end when she said she would never leave her. Rest felt forced/rushed, but the ending was spot on.

MrsJayy · 18/05/2016 11:01

The rest was just fluff and filler the end was brilliant it was like 2 different writers wrote the episode

AGnu · 18/05/2016 11:05

I didn't like the episode much at all, I spent most of it thinking "just do it tomorrow", "give your daughter a ring", "give everyone else time to get used to the idea". It's one thing to do it completely secretly or to do it with the agreement & support of your loved ones but to just turn up, tell them you're terminal & then ask them to help you end it that day is incredibly mean & selfish. She had time. She could've waited a few days for everyone to get their heads around it & gather together as a family. Now Phil/Grant are forever going to have the guilt that they didn't hide her pills well enough & went off to the pub while she died. Sharon's also going to know she was the last one who saw her alive & knew she was acting a little odd so could've walked her home & stayed to make sure she was ok. If she'd just had a stroke/heart attack in her sleep then no-one would've felt like they could've prevented it & we could've just focussed on how sad it is that Peggy's dead not that I really care given how long she's been gone for. That's assuming they're going to show them reacting to her suicide & not just her death.

It's not real, I know this... Blush

Heavens2Betsy · 18/05/2016 11:12

I thought it was badly done. It all seemed a bit rushed.

I don't know why Peggy was only in it for 2 episodes? Couldn't they afford any more? All the walking round in a daze saying "ello darling" got on my nerves.

She should have been at the party, done the toast, had a little stint behind the bar, rang the bell and called last orders and then gone home and popped off.
And Sharon should have snogged Grant's face off!!!
I would Grin

Jasonandyawegunorts · 18/05/2016 11:12

She's a damn now AGun they could only afford her for 5 days.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 18/05/2016 11:12

Dame... obviously not damn

MissBattleaxe · 18/05/2016 11:14

I thought they over-egged the pudding a bit. It was a bit mawkish and overly syrupy. Great to see Grant back. I could watch him read a phone book.

MrsJayy · 18/05/2016 11:17

Och its Dame Babs she can have the glory for a day or so it was silly and ott and milked for all it was worth I enjoyed it in all its silliness

MissBattleaxe · 18/05/2016 11:20

Fair comment Mrs Jayy. It is a soap after all I suppose!

BeYourselfUnlessUCanBeAUnicorn · 18/05/2016 11:39

I think she wanted to get on with it because she is very aware that she is losing herself. She is clearly in pain and keeps forgetting. She knows it's only going to get much worse and fairly quickly being in her brain. I think she wanted to do it while she was still 'herself'.

I didn't know Grant was coming back again. Makes sense now he was going on about the money etc. I did think why we're they setting up another storyline when he will be buggering off. And he mentioned Courtney so she'll probably be back with him.

bialystockandbloom · 18/05/2016 12:23

Do agree about the first 20 mins or so being a filler. But loved that end bit with Pat. Proper character-driven drama rather than the ridiculous plot-driven crap there mainly is now.

Did Sam even get a mention? She seems UK have been airbrushed out of history, like Peggy only had the two boys. Surely Daniella westbrooke would come back to EE like a drop of a hat?

Loving seeing Grant again. Half the characters now seem to be the old ones. Just need Michelle to complete the golden circle.

bialystockandbloom · 18/05/2016 12:24

to not UK!

MrsJayy · 18/05/2016 12:25

Grant said she was getting a flight over i think she lives in the algarve too

SoupDragon · 18/05/2016 12:27

Sam was mentioned insofar as she was getting a letter like Grant was going to. Daniella Westbrook is back for the funeral.

MissBattleaxe · 18/05/2016 12:28

Seeing Pat made me miss her. They really shouldn't have killed her off. Pam St Clement was always brilliant.
