Really enjoying this series - hate the horrible abusive husband but like the other characters & think it's perfect Sunday night viewing!

Saw it last week but haven't watched today's yet.
Loved the first series.
Was confused last week though - have I missed an episode? I didn't realise it had started but caught last week's on Catch up but it seemed to have jumped on from the end of last series. Was there an episode the week before (3rd) ? It didn't say "Episode...{1 0r 2}"

Just had to check as couldn't remember - tonight's was episode 3 - it's on catch up on ITV if you want to watch the first episode.

I was looking for a thread earlier- love it! I was also confused and thought had missed one. The posh woman who's husband was having an affair who else died in car? It wasn't made clear to much in first series and suddenly she has factory and the like.

Also accounts lady who was offered top secret job and we are supposed to know the in and out ofs.

Loving the music and outfits and the stress of those left behind- really glad when the sun turned up tonight. Though makes you realise how little support there was for men coming back in a mess physical or mental and how families were expected to cope with it all.

Bob has obviously clocked her affair and the tears when he went to do the bomb. Let's hope he gets himself fighting fit and back to the front line soon.

Yes. Missed S1, so we are watching that aswell.

It wasn't clear that Helen (the mistress) was killed in the car crash- in fact I thought she was shown to walk clear of it?

The accounts lady- fairly simple- she was cooking the books for a company in order to earn much needed cash and was almost taken to court. As a result of her ability to cook the books she has now been employed by the police, to work undercover.

Not sure if Bob has clocked her affair - he's such a miserable and controlling person that he would interpret anything as wrong even if it weren't!

I suspect she may lose it with him one day and kill him- or run away.

I like the 2nd series much better then the 1st. The 1st was a bit light and too much WI, whereas this is the nitty gritty of life.

I suspect we are in for another lesbian affair with the dark-haired teacher and the new female pilot.

One thing that irks me- I cannot remember the characters names. Is this because they are rarely used in the dialogue?

I've been looking for a thread, I don't normally watch series of any type as end up missing too much.

I hate Bob too and hoping that she leaves him, but don't think she will. Nice to see her stand up to him though.

Helen was shown face down thrown from the car, but we didn't know who she was then.

The characters are really good though, even the ones you love to hate.
Definitely a lesbian relationship is going to spring up, maybe lots of stress/ mh from those who have returned.

Totally agree Polly, I can't remember any of the characters names either. I thought it was because they were always called Mrs X & surnames just don't stick in my head at all!!

I think Bob will go crazy & beat the crap out of her & hopefully she'll fight back & he'll end up dead!

So glad the son turned up too & will be interesting to see the mental health issues.

Great series. Poor Pat. At least Bob is injured so he can't hurt her. Cheeky so and so when he criticised her for having a new dress

He's a fucker & he has that big stick, so I'm not convinced he couldn't do serious physical damage to her (never mind the emotional damage). I'm also not convinced that he's badly injured as I reckon he's the type to fake it to be medically discharged.

He's obviously a good actor as I feel strong hatred towards him!

In the last ep, where Bob leaves, I thought that Pat would skip home!

I watched the first series and agree I'm enjoying the second series more because we know the characters better so there aren't all the time consuming introduction stories. It's good to see a drama with a plenty of female roles at the heart of it, although it's typical Sunday night fayre and follows on quite nicely after The Durrells but there's nothing wrong with a costume drama wallow.

I thought Bob had gone off in series one to be a war correspondent because of his 'writing'. I was hoping he wouldn't come back at all but have a nasty feeling like others that Pat will end up bumping him off and get her nice Czech officer to help her cover it up. I suspect however, that she'll end up being arrested 'Archers' style and be in big trouble by the end of the series - that might depend on whether there's a series 3 in the offing. Anyone know?

One thing that shocked me was the lung cancer ridden doctor who is having radiation therapy still smoking outside the tent at the Czech cultural afternoon. I know they didn't realise the connection between smoking and lung cancer then but it really struck me when I saw it.

OK. I'm all caught up now.
I really enjoyed the first series of this (except it stopped too soon!) so am chuffed it's back.
I like the way they are involving lots of aspects you forget about - like the Czech soldiers, and like rounding up the Italian lady.
So at the inequality over Laura and the Wing Commander story, and the fact everyone just accepts it as being 'the way it is'.
Some great actresses being given strong roles in this though.

I'd say too scandalous, especially given the treatment of the doctors daughter.

I'm not sure they understood the concept of 'unreasonable behaviour' or 'mental cruelty' in those days and beating up your wife was par for the course in many households with a blind eye turned by many. I think it was quite difficult to get divorced without clear grounds like adultery without clear evidence and the papers used tor report everything in minute detail so I'm guessing it was out of the question for most ordinary people. Poor Pat!! She'll have to get some more knock out drops from the Doctor's wife - they worked a treat. I did wonder in the first series if she'd tried to poison him with the 'off' pilchards. That could be worth another go!

Does anyone else get confused between the wife of the doctor and the wife of the vicar? I'm not sure of names either.

I've watched ep1 of this series & I'm really pissed off that Bob is back.

Also beginning of ep2-raid is on & Mrs Barton say's that it's Helen's funeral.

Also pissed off that Pat isn't at the telephone exchange(?) anymore.

It is shit that the wing commander wasn't also sacked, isn't it?

As for Laura being co respondent though, since it's the wife divorcing him I doubt that she would have much choice re grounds.

My Gps divorced in the 50s & it was in the local paper-desertion on his part & my mum wasa witness!

Does anyone else ever get annoyed by the way dramas try to pretend it's summer when it's very clearly Autumn with bare trees and brown leaves on the ground plus everyone's in winter coats? It was supposed to be 24 July but it looked like November.(because it was!)

Bob really is an accident waiting to happen - please someone! I feel there's a series two cliffhanger for episode 6 - suggesting a possible series 3. Actually, I do think the series is too short anyway for the number of characters and different story lines. It needed 8 - 10 episodes but no one seems to commit to that anymore - I think it's cost and the idea that audiences won't watch that man episodes.

Just one more gripe which bugged me in series 1 - how does a local girl just join the WAAF at her local base, sort of part-time and in Laura's case live at home and in the case of the blonde girl go back to answering the telephone exchange in the afternoon? I've read quite a few books by ladies who were in the services in WW2 and you had to join up, go for basic training and were then posted wherever they wanted to send you. I know it's dramatic licence but it's a bit daft.

Felt a bit sorry for Teresa - so conflicted over what to do and it's just not going to end well. Such a shame for the dashing Wing Commander in his blissful ignorance too because they make such a nice looking couple.

By the way I do actually like the series in spite of the gripes!

I have a horrible feeling that David (butcher's son) is going to kill himself as he can't bear to live with his injuries and his parents are going to go through the pain of losing him all over again, but this time it is definite.

Yves, so many stories that can't end Well in such a short series.
Poot David and family, such horrific injuries. And how awful must it be for Theresa that the only person she's open with is Actively encouraging her to be someone else. And then pat no knowing how much strength Bob has regained.
It's just all going to go wring really, isn't it.
