Completely agree spud.

That was a terrible episode in general. It felt like a video they'd show in school to warn about sending naked photos etc. Like a badly written public service announcement.

VashtaNerada · 27/04/2016 21:04

For men who (knowingly or otherwise) do what Jay did, they're much more likely to relate to someone like Jay than someone like Whitney's step-father, and therefore - hopefully - more likely to change their behaviour.

WonderingAspie · 27/04/2016 21:18

Wtf was all that about with Sharon, Sonia, Honey and Tina all sitting with Louise and Bex to talk about sex! That was one of the cringiest things I've seen!

Poor Jay Sad. I still don't understand why the hell Bex was saying he did it (she knows he didn't) and why Star wasn't interviewed! Considering EE likes to drag things out that was all done in record time.

Realistically, would Phil have even been able to get it up ?

I'm wondering if Denise will be pregnant. I think you can still be caught even at the beginning of the menopause can't you? Or is it going to be the obvious, she'll assume she is, be all 'woe is me, I'm pregnant with Phil's baby' and not actually just do a test then she will find out its the menopause?

The episodes lately have been really shit and totally badly done. So jumpy as well.

Sonia's dress was bloody awful!

ThornyBird · 27/04/2016 21:49

Bizarre jam packed episodes - it's too much BUT DD1 (14) was watching the court bit with me and it was a good reminder for her that her soon to be 16bf would be in the same boat if she chose to send pictures etc.

Yes it's all a bit educational video but is that a bad thing if teens make up a lot of the audience? Or if it gets parents talking to their DC?

MagpieCursedTea · 27/04/2016 22:09

I think it was more how forced it all seemed, especially the bit in Sonia's living room. It felt like it was just trying to get a message across rather than an actual conversation. I think it all could've been done a lot better.

I've just made the mistake of reading the comments section on the EE FB page. So many horrid comments about Linzi/Star and young girls in general. Quite depressing reading.

MrsJayy · 27/04/2016 22:14

Me and Dd 2 have been chatting about it tonight granted she is 18 but it opens up conversations which is maybe the whole point like a pp said we are all talking about it poor Jay though 5 years on the sex offenders register

MrsJayy · 27/04/2016 22:16

Dd did curl up in a ball at the sex chat though wasbthe league of mothersGrin

MrsJayy · 27/04/2016 22:17

God yes Maggie at EE facebook about jail bait and slags was revolting I reported some of them

southeastdweller · 27/04/2016 22:26

Apart from the clunky scene tonight at Sonia's house, I think EE got it right portraying the story - both Jay and Linzi made mistakes and I think I agree that Jay's story and him being a relatively normal soap character for someone his age may act as a cautionary tale for lads his age. I've liked him for years but as I've said several times on this thread, in two months of dating he should have made an effort to find out more about her, regardless of how old she looks. I don't have any sympathy for him.

imwithspud · 27/04/2016 22:30

Agree regarding the fb comments, sweeping statements such as "all 14-16 year old girls know what they're doing" as seen on fb, don't help the cause on either side, but maybe that's down to individuals missing the point of the storyline rather than EE being at fault? I don't know.

I just think after the Adam Johnson case, and seeing how many people are willing to jump on the victim even in cases where the perpetrator is clearly guilty, that maybe it isn't the right time for a storyline like this? Maybe we need to work on the victim blaming culture we have going on right now.

MagpieCursedTea · 27/04/2016 22:53

We do, and I hope the forthcoming episodes will deal with that. I think EE wanted to provoke discussion, to get adults to think about relationships they're getting into and for parents to speak to their kids about the subject. I think what's happened (judging by the fb comments) is that a lot of people have jumped on the "innocent man tricked by evil girl" bandwagon.
I think that Linzi just wanted to be loved and she thought this was the way to go about it. She's not had any better guidance from her Mother. Jay didn't deliberately seek out an underage girl but Linzi is still the victim.

makingmiracles · 27/04/2016 23:09

Poor jay. Really highlights the fact that in this day and age you can't make assumptions. Almost like we should be teaching our children to ask for ID when they start seeing someone/dating.
Poor blokes done nothing wrong imo and is now facing massive consequences for his actions

imwithspud · 27/04/2016 23:11

I agree it's where they go with the rest of the story that counts. It's the only storyline that has actually grabbed my attention and has me and others talking about it so their task of invoking discussion seems to have worked. More so if it encourages discussion between parents and their own teenagers.

Agree about Linzi being a bit lost, wanting to be wanted and not really knowing how to go about it. I know I could have easily have ended up in a situation like that as a naive young teen but I was fortunate that circumstances never allowed it and I don't think I'm the only one out there. I don't think she deliberately set out to lead Jay on just like I don't think Jay deliberately set out to get involved with an underage girl. Mistakes were made on both ends and I feel sympathetic towards them both for different reasons. Hopefully all this gets covered in future episodes in order to really highlight the key issues here rather than it being a 'poor bloke being trapped by underage teen' angle.

However I'm finding Ben more and more repulsive as time goes on.

MrsJayy · 27/04/2016 23:32

Ben is really messed up he's not rightI loved Pam's reaction to Ben she does not like him 1 bit does she.

MagpieCursedTea · 27/04/2016 23:42

I think Pam's reaction to Ben was the most sensible one, I find it weird how well liked he seems to be, even Shirley seems to have forgiven him.

looki · 28/04/2016 00:46

Is Pam the only person who remembers anything that Ben did previously?

Phil is a fabulous drunk and Denise was good too. I didn't quite get what they were saying to each other but I often miss parts of EE as I find it hard to understand the accent at times.

Kyle is a bit of a shit friend. Wasn't that girl the one who supported him while he was looking for Stacey. He couldn't wait to see the back of her tonight.

I thought the builder bursting into the flat and inviting himself to stay for food was ridiculous. Surely both Kyle and Stacey would say nope we are not going to the Vic and shut the door behind you on the way out. After all he is a random builder who neither of them know although he did offer Martin a job even know as far as we know Martin has fcuk all experience of working on a building site.

I still can't figure out why Johnny is planning to recover a year's worth of lost tuition and assessments by studying in the pub when it is busy?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 28/04/2016 01:12

I thought that girl was his ex? And that's why he wasn't too keen on seeing her.

VashtaNerada · 28/04/2016 06:04

Yes, I assume Kyle was lesbian before transition and she's his ex. She does look really young though, wtf was Tina thinking? I find Sonia irritating but I wish she'd just break up with her properly. Tina's behaviour (even before the kiss) was appalling.

MagpieCursedTea · 28/04/2016 06:51

Maybe Kyle is worried about his friend outing him?

SoupDragon · 28/04/2016 07:45

Linzi is still the victim.

I don't think she is the victim because nothing happened and the second Jay found out he broke it off. He should have found out how old she was but, realistically, would she have told him? All Jay is really guilty of is foolishness, although keeping to the letter of the law the photos make him guilty of possessing indecent images of a child. Even though he deleted those right away too.

It's a very uncomfortable storyline because he is not really guilty of what the whole square thinks he is guilty of and he is a decent guy.

MrsJayy · 28/04/2016 08:03

I wonder what the conditions will be when he signs the register he might not be able to stay at Billy and Honeys because of the children

LineyReborn · 28/04/2016 08:04

I doubt the writers of the fastest court case in history have even thought that through.

MrsJayy · 28/04/2016 08:11

Yeah what was that about it was meant to be a plea hearing sentenced right away

southeastdweller · 28/04/2016 08:30

She probably wouldn't have told him her real age if he'd asked but maybe if he'd found out more about her in two months, such as what she did all day, then perhaps he would have realised she was lying or insisted on meeting her friends or something. That's why I've no sympathy for him, it's not like they were dating for a few days.

MrsJayy · 28/04/2016 08:38

She lived off square she was vague about stuff but not shifty he had no reason to question her if he was demanding to know what she did all day we would be calling him a controlling knob and she would have lied anyway,
